Title: Rear Spring Snapped
Post by: adminkatana on June 12, 2014, 03:38:22 pm
Hello,

Taken my car to VW for a service and they've told me that the rear drivers side spring has snapped. I haven't noticed a thing while driving, feels fine, although they tell me it's unsafe to drive.

Question is do I get the one spring replaced with an OEM part or get all 4 done for not much more with a set of VWR 20-25mm lowering springs? Don't want anything too low (road surfaces around here are similar to the lunar surface)

Thanks.

I would change the whole lot for a new set. Like you said cost wise there isn't much difference. As a minimum you would really need to change springs on both sides. In my opinion of course.

Thanks for your advice, I'll go ahead and get all 4 done. I guess it's something else to not have to worry about.

It does make leasing a new R a very very tempting prospect though  :driver:

This is also what I did. My car which came from Peter Cooper had one shock absorber replaced under warranty. I argued that a pair should have been done they played their 'our policy is' card.

So I bought a Bilstein B12 kit and said  :angry015:

Personally I'd just do the rear both sides.

Just done the rear springs on a Yaris T-Sport, after one snapped.

How do you find the ride on the VWR springs? got some sitting in my garage waiting to go on.

At first I noticed a few squeaks I hadn't heard before while driving over big dips in the road, concerned me a little, but all settled down now.

Ride is a little firmer than stock, but other than that feels great. Feel slightly less roll when cornering, sits marginally lower and looks much better now!
