hi all,
i have recently had a light come up on my dash saying check brake pads now i have looked round the brakes and they all seem good with around 6mm on them could there be a sensor or something that could be playing up?
thanks

Could be a fault with the wiring but IMO jack up the car and check the thickness of left inner pad to make sure the fault is false. The sensor wire is connected to only that pad.

is there a sensor wire to each brake pad? or do they only go to one wheel?
-
The front sensor is only on the passenger side. Not sure about rears. But imagine one sensor at the front, one on the rear.
-
Only one sensor at the front left and none at rear.

Does anyone know if I can replace this sensor?

The sensor is part of the brake pad. It works by touching the disc when the pads wear low and completing a circuit (using the disc as ground) which illuminates the warning light.
Either your brake pads are low of the wire that connects to the sensor is damaged and grounding out on the body somewhere. Disconnect the sensors one at a time to diagnose the faulty one. Be sure your inner pads aren't low though.
