Hey Guys,
I know its not a Golf but I'm sure some of you will appreciate it!
Quick reminder for those that don't know, I did have a Golf, (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,68984.0.html) which I enjoyed a lot but when I found out we were having our second child I quickly realised that the boot on the Golf probably wouldn't fit 2 pushchairs in let alone my work gear so I used this as my excuse to change cars.
So I ordered a new Skoda Octavia vRS estate with lots of toys back in February............6 weeks later and the dealer still couldn't tell me when it was being built, which annoyed me.
And then out of the blue my friendly VW supplier called me up at 17:20 on a friday evening, and I quote "cancel your Skoda, I've got your car!"
I looked at it, and a deal was done that evening.......Skoda was cancelled on the Monday after.
So what did I buy?
I bought this:-
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2F0c1e52bf-a34d-4746-b7e1-5a2629f00227_zps21719c8f.png&hash=b84a9e3f70f285b1e622d0af7a0440b35b320f3a)
It has a really high spec with front and rear heated seats, massaging seats, Air conditioned cooling seats, rear electric blind, Park assist 2, DSG and so on!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FIMG_0334_zpsafddbec1.png&hash=f51893386d1a5b180ecffe44dc2bc53017241e28)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FIMG_0335_zps4b321ee8.png&hash=e34951b91dd8a518aa0af97e5f8ae58b70ad525c)
I'm not going to mod this one", I told everybody........That didn't last.
First thing was to replace the RNS-315 that it came with the car.......Nothin' wrong with it but I had a 510 in the Golf and you get used to certain things. Only snag was that the 315 was DAB and my 510 was not so I ordered a new RNS-510 DAB and sold the other 2 to pay for it.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FIMG_0988_zps0e660806.jpg&hash=2327a2fee0e7975dc2d2e1715ce963f059040f7c)
The dealer also had my front door windows tinted for me because he thought I'd like it! Well he wasn't wrong.(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FIMG_5631_zps77b683ff.jpg&hash=68a3e20e97428aed4828214aafc3cc4ae52dcbe9)
its not the best photo but it shows how close the front is to the rear and yet still legal.
I left it for a little while and then I got in contact with my mate Eddie-NL and he fitted a few goodies like Door warning lights, front and rear footwell lights and a brand new DSG steering wheel........
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FIMG_0961_zpsf6e78b3d.jpg&hash=6cf515fbff1233a8e8125c1bcf9cc9285992d893)
These are from bold sport but are identical to the Golf's unit!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FIMG_0965_zps334e3f4d.jpg&hash=da8e539923b7d0ea5cf023f5c9c7ed597029353a)
These are genuine Audi LED footwell lights that Eddie-NL got for me.....These are not even an option in the UK! and remain on (at 20%) when driving at night.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FIMG_0967_zpsa85e74ee.jpg&hash=64362dc9593a753d0c43ebae5783b74d5530d685)

More later.......
-
I like that, probably the sleekest looking family wagon out there.
Good spec too by the looks of it, I like the colour and love those alloys.
-
Really like the CC. What's the rear passenger space like?

Thanks.......The wheels have their own story.
-
Really like the CC. What's the rear passenger space like?
Rear space is quite good. Leg room is roughly the same as a normal Passat but access is a little tighter due to the way the door line rolls down toward the boot.
-
i cant imagine this being ideal for 2 kids and all the gear, or am i wrong?
it is a lovely car tho
-
So Eddie fitted all the good stuff and I asked if he fit a Chrome tipped switch for the boot and filler cap.....
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FIMG_0981_zps75bbb8bf.jpg&hash=23785fc821e3131ba3c2f18cce5da4cffd0d868b)
Then I fitted LED's in the interior, Thanks to Matt Towers for his help with that.
Then I fitted some LED day running lights. These are a PITA to find and I eventually found some in the USA, £30 odd quid though
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FIMG_0984_zpsad0e143d.jpg&hash=7887f19b40d0a2cfa1af0319d7c2e7c634f02fd9)

The old style bulbs that are fitted as standard, make the car look so old!
Next up were the puddle lights in the mirrors. These are normally halogens but they are no way near as effective as the one's fitted in the mk5 Golf due to them being smaller so again I took my chances on EBAY and ordered some LED one's....
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FIMG_0960_zpsb628174f.jpg&hash=81957a9becca1a84849f62cf1b28f5bad3c8889e)
This is actually one of my favourite mods as they are so effective!!!!
So now I was making the car more personal to me and the more I did so, the more I like the car but there was one thing I hated, the size of the gap between the tyre and the arch..
I mean just look at it, its ridiculous
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2F19ddb0d9-7b11-4614-831a-3a623ead2ba9_zpse156a35d.png&hash=00d30433fe759a9adf2b48e1023985400669a53e)
The problem was what to do about it, I really, really didn't want to ruin the plush ride which was further complicated by the fact that the CC has adjustable dampers. So after a lot of research I decided to go with Eibach springs complemented by an H&R anti roll bar, plus Audi S3 swing arms, Super Pro bushes and Audi TT bushes in the consoles, all fitted by Alex at AKS plus a full alignment.
So, here's what it looks like straight off the ramp.....
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FIMG_0955_zps60c7d796.jpg&hash=5f0d8df600189a950d979a211e6dd303f124b935)
And then I left it!.........except while at AKS, Alex said "do you want some TTRS brakes?" "No, not really. I want some 19" Lugano's really" I said. "Well you'd need 19's to fit them under anyway" he said.
Well, have you ever tried finding the factory wheels you really want at a price you want to pay?
As luck should have it, after missing 2 sets on Ebay, I managed to grab a set. I had to travel to the bottom of the country to get them but I thought it was worth it.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FIMG_0986_zpsdcb6ad4d.jpg&hash=05544a43c23899d65f2c8f6fc9ee363f3b0453a2)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FIMG_0987_zps9d294ed2.jpg&hash=ef8ac0e8df20566bc1c1a5082411ca09547fae4a)
And I wasn't wrong the car looked fantastic!!!!
But now, the offer of the brakes was playing on my mind and of obviously big wheels need big brakes behind them right?
So I spoke to Alex, who spoke to someone, who sent me some calipers.
Which was great except.......
The wheels completely killed the ride and I mean ruined it!! I'm not sure why, they were heavier for sure and after speaking with Alex, he suggested that the tyres (Kumho) would be a major contributing factor. I gave it a week and then decided to put the old wheels back on, much to the delight of SHMBO and quite a few friends/neighbours.
As she stands now........

Thank You Sir........much appreciated. I hope today has been much less of a bind! :driver:
Quick question, did your DSG remap make your shifts quicker?

Might be popping down for the truck bank holiday Monday. You far from Donno then?
No, not far at all. Maybe 20mins or so just the other side of Loughborough.
-
This is absolutely stunning!I wanted a CC, but the insurance was the killer :(
-
What a beautiful car! never really looked at CC's before but looking at yours!
I want one so bad now!
-

Thanks.
It's actually my second but I never modified the first one!
Golfs are a lot more fun to chuck around though.
That's what makes the new mk7 so impressive. All the fun of a mk5 but as refined as the CC. This is absolutely stunning!I wanted a CC, but the insurance was the killer :(
Really? My insurance was cheaper than the Golf.

Is it wrong for me to say I don't like it !!!
Nope......I felt the same way when I first saw a facelifted CC.
Luckily it has grown on me and the old ones just look old now!
-
Just Google "BTCC Passat CC". For inspiration.
-
HaHa.......Todays update!!!
TTRS Brakes
Alex @ AKS put me in contact with someone who had some TTRS calipers a couple of months ago and they've been sitting on the shelf ever since so last week I popped down to Bedford to see Alex who supplied me with a AKS/DaveB (Vagbremtechnic) fitting kit, TTS discs, braided lines, Pagid RS4-2 pads and 10mm wheel spacers.
The kit has been fitted by Harding Autocare (Breedon on the Hill) this morning and all went without a hitch thanks to Alex's excellent help and support. :notworthy:

I have only driven home in the car so far after doing the suggested bedding in procedure ( 10 x medium pressure decelerations from 90mph-50mph and one big hard stop, all done on private roads )
WOW.......its a great improvement bucket loads more power, better feel although I expect this to get even better and surprisingly a difference in the way the car feels because even though the discs are bigger (340mm) and chunkier they weighed about the same as a normal 312mm disc and the calipers and carriers are loads lighter than the stock pig iron anchors. I'm very impressed and they look as if they were there from the factory!
I also fitted some 10mm spacers, not for clearance as the wheels are more than capable if fitting them in but because I felt the car needed it.......
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FP1030608_zpsce86d619.jpg&hash=c4b9d6f0f3eadd8c392ce159e4bf6631088d54fd)

It's just a 170 diesel (for now aye Alex)!

Nice, I really like the shape of these, they're so different. I'm assuming you're going to go for an ECU map at some point? TDI's make epic torque gains, and with the extra stopping power you now have, it would be rude not to. Maybe a downpipe and DPF delete?
-

Not sure what to do yet.......I don't want to map it really until the warranty runs out in May next year. I was considering a tuning box as DTUK appear to be getting some brilliant results but when I told vRS Alex, his face did a contortion that has made me think twice.
If I do get it remapped, I will consider the Darkside Deveolpments downpipe (decat thingy) an S3 intercooler or similar like the Peron one that Alex has at the same time I think.
All that said, I don't find it that slow. I cruise most places anyways but I can now stop like a

Got my quote through for an R-Line front bumper today......£580 + painting and fitting! :surprised:

Tis a beauty of a car dude. :notworthy:
I keep looking at the OZ Formula rims too.

I've liked the wheels for ages, I'm just not sure they suit the CC!
I think I prefer the Neuspeeds in Bronze.

I think these are way to "racing" for this car .
Overall, you have a very nice looking car, mate! :congrats:
-
Thanks Rex! I'm really enjoyng the car, it's fantastic. Super comfy and it handles a lot better now as well.
I agree about the wheels being to racy, but I would like like much lighter wheels and if anything the lighter brakes have only made me want them more, knowing the improvement it makes. Hohum.
-
Love the new additions mate. Brakes look awesome. Will definitely stop you well with the caravan on the back :signLOL:

In Fairness, I reckon I could remove this lump of iron and save a chunk of weight but as its an £800 option, I'm reluctant to remove it!

If that's automatic, I need to see it in action haha.

My bosses is ace on the Passat allroad

If that's automatic, I need to see it in action haha.

... I would like like much lighter wheels and if anything the lighter brakes have only made me want them more, knowing the improvement it makes. Hohum.
I really don't understand why you are feeling an improvement .
1. The discs are a lot heavier than stock (btw, have you weighed them?). This, along with the size (they're bigger than stock and moment of inertia is not working in your favor) should mean you should feel the car pull slightly worse than stock.
2. The overall weight of the new calipers + pads + discs + spacer should be really close (if not more) than stock calipers + pads + discs.
Are you sure it is not placebo?
Anyway, I love your brakes and I am sure they are well worth it... If I had another mk5 platform car I would definitely change the brakes first with a OEM'ish 4 pot caliper such as yours!

Hi Rex,
Remember that these are the TTS discs and NOT the 345mm S3 discs which I have been informed are about 2kg heavier than the TTS discs.
I did compare the TTS disc to the standard 312mm disc and the difference was grams, not kg's.
As for the calipers, the TTRS calipers are lighter than the standard calipers but the real saving is in the carriers. The DaveB/AKS carriers are loads lighter than the standard ones and over all the combination of discs, carriers and calipers mean the difference is quite significant. The difference manifests itself in several ways. Not all of which I am qualified to comment on but to me it feels as if the wheel tracks the road better, making it more comfortable but also my simple brain suggests if the wheel is in contact with the ground more of the time I will achieve a higher grip level.
Obviously, if you used the better floating discs you would save more weight but you would need to spend a lot more money.
Also, remember that I also tried the much heavier 19" wheels, which ruined the ride so I have based my opinion on going both ways as it were.
All that said, Yes, it could be placebo!

In Fairness, I reckon I could remove this lump of iron and save a chunk of weight but as its an £800 option, I'm reluctant to remove it!
TBH that looks smart :drinking:

liking this, very different! great choice of mods too.

Ah ok. Still a nice solution to what is an ugly accessory. My intention was to have some banter due to the 'type' of car. A bloke at work has one and tows his caravan to France most years but it backfired as assumed it didn't have one :signLOL:

Now then, everybody knows how much I like Eddie-NL to come across and do mods to my car. Well he's yet again provided a helping hand in my latest mod.
I don't know how but he has managed to find me a set of 2014 colour (premium) Highline MFD for my CC. :notworthy: :congrats:
Unfortunately Eddie's tool doesn't yet have the ability to set the mileage as they are so new but as luck should have it, I sold my old clocks (from the Golf) to the guy that runs the Caddy2K.com forum. He goes by the name of DOC(contact him on doc@caddy2k.com). And a very nice chap he is too. As luck should have it, he only lives up the road from me and his Vag-Com tool could set the milage so last night, that's exactly what we did.

Cap,with tags and a flat peak. Seriously though, looks premium and considering its probably the part of your car you most look at, worth it completely.

Something that made you question the future of the human race? Also, you had a look at the 4 BTCC Past CC's yet?

Yeah, something like that.
Yes I did look at the BTCC stuff.....and the body kits do look good. There not for me though.
That said, I really would like a custom front bumper. I really like the stuff that R.A.D in Daventry are doing. Read this if you're unsure.......

The cluster change is an underrated mod, IMHO... This is the part of the car you are seeing the most! So any update is clearly welcomed and much appreciated.
The new cluster is looking great! :congrats:

Thanks Rex.
Its not just the colour that improves either. The resolution is higher and the transition between screens is more fluid.
It reminds me of when I swapped from a Sony Ericsson phone to my 1st iPhone imported from America back in 2008.

very nice pal! :happy2:

Indeed, for what I've been reading Eddie-NL is a master in retroffiting these electronic equipments! The cost and the distance to the UK most likely will put me off, yes... :sad1:

i wonder what clocks would fit my octy vrs?

Speak to Eddie-NL about Skoda's!
If anyone will know he will.

Just a little 30bhp update care @vRSAlex (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1981) and REVO!!
So far so good but dpf delete is now in need! Oh, and a front ARB!
-
Sounds good mate. Bet its made the world of difference. Who's DPF delete you going for? Do you already have a rear ARb fitted?
-
Hi Matto,
It has made a difference yes but its far more subtle than the R-Tech map that I had on the Golf.....! I'll probably go for the Darkside Pipe. Especially after I saw one today at AKS!!!
I'm going up Donno on Saturday to watch the track day......someones offered me a ride and seems rude to decline the offer! let me know if you're around!! :happy2:
-
Cool. I have the Darkside pipe and its a nice piece of kit. Cheaper than the Milltek too even with Alex's discount.
Ah cool. I'm up there on Sunday. My bro is there doing a trackday. What time you there till mate? I'm working till 2 but could call by.
-
I'm not going up until lunchtime so will probably still be there. Drop me a message if you're going to come up! :happy2:

I've been trying to get this to work for months so to say I'm chuffed is an understatement!!

If you have a DPF delete how do you get on at MOT time? Just wondering as I might have it done to the 'Rocco when I start the power mods.
-
Hi,
The simple answer is, it will fail.
When I have mine done I will opt for the DSD version with a built in faux dpf box. Hopefully my friendly MOT station will believe it's real!!!

I got a DPF delete similar to that you posted Biano. Fortunately the MOT inspector liked it and since my engine isn't producing visible smoke, it passed with no problems. :happy2:

Very nice indeed. In a big fan of the CC and they're even better with the 2.0T. So few of them about.
I like your additions too.

I often wonder how the 2.0T would go......but I do far to many miles to make it work. Sadly.
I reckon 4wd and V6 (turbo'd) would be a lot of fun too!

-
Does that just activate high beam when it detects no oncoming traffic?
-
Yep and deactivates it when it sees an on coming car. I'm now also under the impression that if you slow to speeds below 40 it turns it done too, e.g. When you slow down to drive through a village.

I would love to have a V6 4wd version........sadly I could never justify the fuel bill!!
She wasn't that bad on the juice really. 250 mile to £60 around the doors, 320+ on a run ,MFD showed around 23-25mpg and no more than 32mpg on a run . Similar to the Cupra r Iv got now only it's slightly better around the doors.
Had a lot of character that V6. Would of been better with a manual though. Wish I'd found this forum while I had it
-
Spent the day yesterday with @vRSAlex (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1981) of AKS fame.
He did a fine job fitting an H&R front ARB and painting my rear calipers gloss black to match my TTRS front brakes. While he was doing it we discovered that my rear bump stops were shreaded so replaced those as well. It's been bugging me what could of caused them to get eaten away and I think it maybe my Jetwash.
All the hard work has paid off as the car is handling brilliantly. Ride comfort has been maintained and the stance is almost perfect.
-
Nice work mate. I was there last Thursday and saw your name on the board
-
Really?!
Alex never said! What were you down for?
I have to go back in August for a service but mods wise, I think I'm done.
+ I've bought a new bike so that'll take my attention I imagine.
-
Yes mate. I was down to replace the Milltek with a BCS. Running 3" straight through now haha. It sounds rather naughty. I'm at the end of my list to tbh. I'm ready for a new car, just not financially.
-
Nothing new really, just enjoying the car!!!
Took the car to AKS last Friday for a service and a couple of other bits. It maybe placebo but I'm convinced the car feels better with Miller's oil in it. Not faster, or more powerful, it feels more free revving, lighter in some way. It's an odd sensation but its there.
High beam assist has been fun to use but the the TPMS has really surprised me in that I had no idea how much a tyre fluctuates in pressure.
Other than a annoying squeak coming from the rear of the car that no one can find, the car is running really well at the minute and I'm really enjoying it.
Now if I could just get rid of these thoughts about Golf R estates!!!!!
-
So, the time has come to split the CC down, put it back to near standard and move on.
I've always loved the CC from the 1st time I saw it and this one is awesome. But my life is moving on, with school runs and family outings so I am moving into the SUV world.
Springs, Anti Roll bars, wheels and full TTRS brake kit will be in the classifieds soon.
