Title: Direnza Downpipe
Post by: Stamanatic on September 12, 2014, 11:05:48 am
Anyone know anything about these? http://www.direnza.co.uk/vw-golf-mk5-sports-cat-exhaust-downpipe.html

I've a feeling they are the exact same exhaust as the "ebay" exhaust you often seen :

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLKSWAGEN-GOLF-MK5-GTI-2-0-FSI-TURBO-200CPI-3-SPORTS-CAT-EXHAUST-PIPE-/230865921656?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35c0ae6678

I've seen people say the above downpipe isn't great so I wonder are these both the same!

I have the decat version but haven't fitted it yet, there are a few issues but nothing major.  If you are going to fit one buy the dogbone mount insert also to help stop movement in the downpipe, the weak part being the two prongs that mount to the bracket can snap.  I don't think the Sports cat is any good, BCS or Milltek for sports cat but should be fine for decat in my opinion

I have the ebay decat downpipe with no issues.
had to hear the brackets to the rubbers at the back of the subframe up and bend them slightly to sit perfectly.
no complaints from me (Y) I have a bcs cat back system but couldn't justify the price of a decat downpipe from the big name companys as its just abit of pipe with a flexi.
decat downpipe and superpro bush insert to help protect the flexi with less engine movement

So a sports cat version is best bought form a reputable company?

I'd personally cost effectively go for a cheap ebay dp as mentioned above that it's onlt a bit of pipe and then decide on a cat back.

Ideally I wanted a sports cat though rather than de cat, as I don't want to get everything done straight away I'll need to do it all slowly, ie sports cat downpipe, cold air intake next, cat back next then finally re Map to suit.

The sports cat will be more restrictive than the de cat or a de gutted one. depends on what you want out of the car or re map and how far you wish to go.

I would not recommend you go that route, I've got a knackered Direnza sport cat in my shed. Buy cheap = buy twice

Very true, although you can nearly buy 3 times for the same as others out there, like APR and Milltek!

That's a good point but I got my full milltek setup (used) for £430. There are some good deals out there to be had especially as more and more MK5 GTI owners are moving to the Audi s-lines

When fitting the eBay downpipe to a 3" cat back (BCS for example) does it fit it you cut off the reducer section or is it too short?
