Title: Bluefin Remap
Post by: ajwhite12 on September 26, 2014, 12:52:48 pm
Has anyone had the Bluefin remap on there gti? I believe its the one that you can do yourself with the remote etc. Any good or bad stories?

Revo maps look to be in the region of £500 these days!

Thanks

If I was going this route I would go with the Shark Performance STS kit

I had one on my old Golf TDI and it went well. Has a Bluefin on my old MK1 Focus RS and wasn't overly impressed tbh.

Nothing wrong with Bluefin. Lots of folks on here highly rate RTech, they give a custom map and certainly know their stuff. AMD and others have their rightful following too.
But for sheer convenience Blufin is fine. It's a safe, if slightly conservative map and certainly works. You can easily do it yourself and remove it should you want to.
I recently helped a mate install it on his GTI (he is not computer literate!).Also, he just does not have the time to make the journey to the Midlands for RTech and wanted more 'grunt' than a standard car. The whole process took us about an hour and instantly the car felt a lot quicker and more responsive. Just like it always should have! I have been driven in and have driven the car and the result was really pleasing. More power if you need it. More torque means less changing down and easy passing. It is smooth and seems to be an even curve. And, providing you are not 'right footing' it everywhere, improved consumption as well.
And yes I've tried an Rtech remap too. Was there a difference? Possibly, but difficult to tell on normal roads. I'm NOT knocking them either!!!!
If you want to go to Stage 2 then def go for a custom remap. Bluefin stage 2 is supposedly not so good. If you want to track day - then custom mapping is probably best.
Just my thoughts - I now await the onslaught .....

Have a read of this: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,65077.0.html

From a guy who was fairly happy with how his bluefin tuned Ed30 drove, until he saw what the map was asking of his engine.

Interesting how bluefin write their maps for the TFSI. . .

Suprised at that as I had the GGR bluefin from Superchips on my mk1 FRS and it went like stink. I have Superchips on my current car and for plug and play they are good value. SHARK is also good as my Octy VRS was stage 2+ from them with no issues. If you want a custom map then RTech would have my money but its down to what you want from a car. If you plan no more than a remap and want to be able to revert to std with an error code reader. Id say Superchips or Shark. Both can be posted out and installed by yourself on the driveway very easily.

What about a stage 1 Bluefin? I have seen one claiming 41bhp and 51nm.
If not, can anyone recommend any other 'plug n play' maps?

Ps. I live at the end of the earth, so getting a live map is kind of out of the question currently.

Now that sounds interesting. I hear if that if you disconnect your battery you lose the map though? What sort of price are we saying for a stage 1 revo?

You dont lose the map, the map reverts to standard performance (it is an adjustable generic map, so it can be tweaked to suit your car). You can buy the device to adjust it or restore the settings yourself, or it will take your Revo dealer seconds to do. How often do you have the battery off though?

http://www.revotechnik.com/product-details/software/volkswagen/golf-v-jetta/15/stage-1/ for a GTI, excludes VAT so factor in another 20%

You can get Revo done in Redruth....

If it was me I'd be giving RK Engineering a ring and ask what they can provide - http://www.rk-engineering.co.uk/

Put a Bluefin on ours (the only mod), and to me it made the car the way it should have come from the factory.  A nice amount more go!

+1 for Bluefin , but then it was on an ED30 adding 70ish bhp

I'd rather get a map from a company that gives you fuel to go with all the extra boost
