Caught doing 54 in a 30 zone last night, as bad as it sounds it was an empty 4 lane going into 5 lane road at midnight, but obviously speed limit stays the same.
What do we think, 3 points and £100 fine or am I in for more cause it was so far over the limit?
-
And he was well hidden in a dark little corner just over the crest of a hill! Sneaky f*cker!!
-
My friend got caught doing 57 in a 30 and got 3 points and £60 fine!
Personally think there is no excuse to be speeding in built up area ever, i love my cars and love to give it a blast in occasionally but in 12 years of driving i believe 30 is 30 for a reason!
Every morning i drive down a 2 mile long steep hill which is a 30mph area and gauranteed every day i have idiots sat right on my rear bumper or overtaking me because im doing the speed limit
Idiots simple as that
Needless to say i laughed when my mate got points for 57mph and said id have thrown the book at you
-
In my defence, it was far from a built up area, it was a four lane carrigeway going into 5 leading into Liverpool city centre.

Hopefully they wont be too harsh on you mate!
May even be lucky and get offered the speed awareness course and small fine
:happy2:
-
I think you'll get a SP30 on your licence and a fine.
Because of your speed excess, I don't think you'll be offered the alternative speed awareness course.
-
I agree, don't think am getting offered the speed awareness purely because it was so much over! Fine and 3 is the best I can hope for!
-
You may get offered it, some local guy I know got caught driving 65 in a 30 and got offered the speed awereness course.
-
Of all the points I've accrued over the years (they seem to just get replenished :rolleye:), I've never once been offered a speed awareness course, my Bro has had three of them.
Hasn't the fine gone up to a £100 now?

Jammy git, that's well into Sumons to court territory there, more than double the speed limit!!
-
My last Speed Awareness course was for a 37 in a 30... coming off a dual carriageway on to a 2-lane in a "built-up but quiet" area, i.e., industrial units / swimming pool / out-of-town shops... well past midnight as I was coming home from band practise, and I ended up on the course with tools who were hurtling past schools at 60mph and laughing about it... in all honesty I paid attention and it did make me a better driver as far as "projecting ahead" while driving, and glad I did it.
54 in 30? 3 points and a £60 fine I would wager, but don't rule out SAC.

stupid question, what does the " points" mean? :innocent:
-
Shirley you cannot be serious?

Are you not in the UK mate?
-

UK driving license holders are given penalty points for driving offences. The more serious the offence, the more points are given. When the number of points reaches 12 then (usually) a ban is enforced. Speeding generally gets you a fine and 3 points, so caught speeding 4 times and you get 12 points which means a ban.
-
not long been on speed awareness course cost £95, compared to £100 and 3 points. course was long and boring. caught doing 47 in 30 zone,if your offered it take it good luck.

That's up to the courts to decide on the individual case.
-
Oh you're serious, ok, as people have said 12 point licence. Points last for 3/4 years on licence, 5+ for Insurance purposes.
Keep within 10% of the speed limit and you are pretty much going to be ok for life
But, if you actually want to use your hot hatch (get to the track or), remember this table which could land you in court otherwise:
Speed limit - Ticket ----- Chance of Summons to court
20mph 25mph 35mph
30mph 35mph 50mph
40mph 46mph 66mph
50mph 57mph 76mph
60mph 68mph 86mph
70 mph 79mph 96mph
Additionally, with all that said, more and more Police now favour the Section 59, which means they need absolutely no evidence, to mark your car for 12 months and impound it on the second occasion (££££ release fee) if they are either:
1. In a bad mood
2. You don't pass the "kiss my ass" test
3. It's raining
4. Your windscreen is cracked (but it passed MOT... but they don't care)
5. Your numberplate is too high (but it passed MOT... but they don't care)
6. You "looked" like you were driving too fast.
7. Your exhuast is too loud (but it passed MOT... you get the point, lol)
8. Some reason that they make up on the spot.
I'm quite surprised the S59 exists tbh, as there's no legal course, as a result you cannot defend yourself. :rolleye:

I recieved a section 59 about 7 years ago for accelerating quite hard off a set of lights (no speed limit broken) loud exhaust and the officer was just being a total Ar$e that day
Think the ticket goes against that car registration tho not you! Changed cars few months later anyway and touch wood never had any bother since then

Nah mate, the offence is against the CAR and the PERSON, unfortunately... 12 months... so you're all good by now. :happy2:

Never knew that!
As said many years ago anyway but have to agree that the S59 is a loop hole in the system for the law and not much we the motorist can do to contest it unless you are up for a big court battle and have plenty spare cash to fund such a battle
-
As I said expecting 3 points and a fine, if a sac if offered I'll snap there hand off, only slight problem is I work away on ships so getting to one May end up a problem, but we'll cross that bridge if it comes!!
