Title: Terrible rattle from the rear
Post by: GTi-Andy on October 06, 2014, 07:07:02 am
Hi guys

I've got a terrible and annoying rattle coming from the rear of the car.

It's still there when I take out the parcel shelf, so it's not that.

Any ideas where I should look?

Cheers

Could be the boot lid rattling against its stoppers?

You can adjust the stoppers to sit tightly against the boot IIRC

Check the boot trims, does it sound plastic or metalic? If metallic could be something the the spare wheel well.

I stopped one rattle by removing and properly refitting the tailgate inner plastic cover. Bit of a pain to do. I also clipped some loose wires behind the cover while I was at it.
The other annoying rattle was from the rear light cluster. Took it apart and super glued part of the reflector in place. It's just clipped together for normal assembly and works loose. There is a thread about it somewhere on here ...

Thanks for the replies, gives me something to look for.

Defo sounds like a plastic rattle rather then metal though.
