So i thought i do a quick writeup how to change lincense plate lights from oem yellow light to oem led lights. It's pretty easy but will show with pics how everything is done for the people who not know or are unsure how it's done.
The car is a VW golf mk5 gti 2005 dsg.
You can find the unit from this Ebay seller. http://www.ebay.com/itm/271497461648?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
( this is my frist how-to so i will be editing this thread now and then )
1) get the unit(s)

2) Wash you car! :happy2:

3) This is how the old oem look like. You can remove it by unscrew the 2 screws you can see...
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fii210%2Fkiller93yo%2FIMG_1194.jpg&hash=3435105b5a64887b7bb6687788c87656d1463896)
4) After that you should try to pray the right side out as showed in the pic 8 you dont need to use much of force to get this out! )
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fii210%2Fkiller93yo%2FIMG_1199.jpg&hash=15e556c2a709caa7f4c13087ad8a65a5b1d0ae4b)
5) after praying the one side out, you just start pulling the hole unit out of there. It will come with the connector.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fii210%2Fkiller93yo%2FIMG_1200.jpg&hash=95771a14eec3c4c494cffef093e52ae11b98827d)
6) Undo the clip and pull it off. easy! clean the old one if you so want. but don't let the connector fall inside the bumper.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fii210%2Fkiller93yo%2FIMG_1203.jpg&hash=daff7628179eae48fcc224485ec202d3b53152ff)
7) Get the new oem led unit and just reinstall it by pushing the connector to the unit and Klik!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fii210%2Fkiller93yo%2FIMG_1206.jpg&hash=4ca3cd4c6a0a8268f2e44a97d4ee95759ffab8d5)
8) just push the new unit in by starting with the left side as you se there is 2 small tabs, after that just push the right side in and you will hear a klik and it's done! you dont need any screws for the new unit.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fii210%2Fkiller93yo%2FIMG_1214.jpg&hash=136fa29a562f634548fc6c0d67289ff04cb54fc5)
the same thing for the other side! should be no problems.

Will be doing this mod myself. Had standard LED bulbs in but kept getting the warning light, drove me insane. Nice little write up btw
Sent from my iPhone when I should be working!

I need to do this to my car, really modernises the look of the car I think!
-
Pictures can't do them justice, well worth the extra they cost over generic LED bulbs and lamps :happy2:

Neat guide @K9 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6852) :happy2:
I got around to installin these and they worked a treat but one day while I was driving it popped up that 'number plate light not working' so I pulled over to see what the story was and both werent working so I just switched them off and back on again and they worked for another while and them the same problem happened. This happens all the time now.
Has anyone else experienced this or similar? I got some for a Mark VI as well and it has the fault on the dash but the lights work perfectly.

I had these on my car for awhile and they worked great. I got a new head unit and wired an led license plate light with a rear view camera in it and now I get that stupid light out indicator until I turn on the light. So annoying.
