Title: Jaffa's GTI
Post by: jaffa on October 19, 2014, 11:21:14 pm
Thought it was about time to post up a build thread

My first car was a 1.4 mk5 golf but after i had that a few years i wanted more power and 5 doors so started looking for a gti

I ended up buying a reflex silver 5 door with DSG and Leather interior

here it is the day after i bought it

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2F2011%2F2011-09%2F29C68C8E-EA91-42FE-B826-3A5FD62C01BB_zpsgjup72mt.jpg&hash=b543bc30248f3f36d0617d90866880ad29e66c70)

and after i had my coilovers  fitted

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2F2011%2F2011-09%2FF749B04C-78E9-495B-A656-BA4CD62285FE_zpsp3gir7zw.jpg&hash=968cc13dc9233af55616f40d78b6b6ed28f5c698)
My first mod was to put on my R32 rear lights from my old car and lower it on some coilovers

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2F2011%2F2011-09%2F6F78ACC2-D400-4FD9-99F5-1E1C006176E2_zps7ayolhlf.jpg&hash=0be5f946f74a88270cd00a8df72548cd8658054a)

Sold my monza 2's as i hate them and fired some 19" speedily reps that my brother had

Next mod was a Neuspeed P Flo intake and stage 1 remap

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2F2012%2F2012-02%2F0d41c087-8127-43d1-aa6e-0472d3636384_zpsa92821bf.jpg&hash=70a1c12da443fa16ec4860c60aa196df65486056)

Had some RS4 reps as winter wheels

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2F2012%2F2012-03%2F5467316B-897E-4023-8987-AD65ACEDA192_zps3jibdphe.jpg&hash=41ca8896f6139d1dccc1dbfdd66f6ca700075a89)

Bought a set of GT grills and hella xenon look headlights and lamin-x on the foglights

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2F2012%2F2012-05%2F1AE23FA0-FFE9-470D-9286-E6E0C0A45E31_zpsbniulycf.jpg&hash=3f894b28991fccce647236c82743e1347f2629d7)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2F2013%2F2013-02%2Ff05299ea-7fb3-4fae-ada7-1122ed1eccf3_zps53cf4e03.jpg&hash=47fbe5a4220b06ed82e8b7d68c4e4069cc9926eb)

So many wheels! You must have quite the collection! The Rota's look better then I thought they would to be fair. Sweet ride though mate!

cheers mate appreciate it  :happy2: which rotas do you mean the grids or the force?

its pretty simple just some soldering, you just swap the smd's

Hi mate what stereo surrounding did you use to go with the mk6 controls and was it a big job getting them to work thanks

i think iv got the bag with the part number on, ill have a look when i finish work.

You can get the full kit from bold sport including the wires to swap over

That's a nice mod. Have you considered making a "how to"?

Other members I'm sure would also love it. The white lights look great!

i think i saw a diy on here about doing it, but its pretty self explanitory

once you open up the clocks you just de solder the smd's you want to change and solder in the new ones making sure they are the same way round.
Hi mate what stereo surrounding did you use to go with the mk6 controls and was it a big job getting them to work thanks

found the bag i got when i got the surround, the part number is 1ko-858-069-n-1qb

Very nice looking mk5 you have there, looking at all the pictures of the different wheels really makes you see how a wheel style can really change the appearance of a car. Each wheel set you've tried gives the car a completely different look.

Cheers ate appreciate it.
That's probably why I haven't sold any of my wheels I just end up swapping them over when I fancy a change

So many wheels! You have a great project! :drinking:

I'd love to get some mk6 GTD seat as well but for their cost I have other priorities.

Just not loving the green calipers. Maybe white would look nice. Red would be more GTI'ish.

Cheers

I love my gtd seats got them for a good price of £500 which I think is good considering there's been a set of rears on eBay for months for £250-£300

And there heated which I think makes them even more rare!

Iv been thinking of repainting my brakes maybe a copper or something but that'll be next year atleast

I can tell you one thing, they won't be going red as I hate red!

Just looking to do little mods to do over the winter already done led door lights, interior LEDs, boot pop, rear footwell LEDs, and full circle and skyline mod

All good mods. :congrats:

You got your seats for a great price indeed. For that price and being heated I would have gone for them too.

Copper is a good colour for your Golf. :happy2:

Really good read mate, you definitely have a wheel problem  car sits really nicely, what coilovers is it on?

@jaffa (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=107) what tyre size did you run on the 3SDMs on front and rears? Did you catch at all anywhere?

I'm looking at getting the 0.06s fairly soon, staggered fitment, but not sure what tyre size to go for on front without it catching the arch. You look to be about as low as I am.

Not too fussed about the rears as I'm pretty sure I can run 225/40s without an issue n 9.5j due to the neg camber I'm running.

Really like the look of your car so far. What's next?

I run 215/40 and 225/40
Get the fronts rolled and you'll be golden

Mine rub on the front under full lock on uneven ground but normal driving is fine and the backs have never rubbed

The only plans I have at the minute are to change to the rota grids and lower it back down when it's a bit warmer
Just put on some new flat embossed centre caps instead of the tall ones

Then it'll be getting booked in for fitting and painting

Nice one mate, so you got any special wheels planned to fill these bad boys up or are you just going to put spacers on whichever one of your current 36 sets of wheels you use  :signLOL:
Title: Re: Jaffa's GTI

Just spacers for now but I do fancy a set of 19's  maybe ch-r's
Needs a notch to save my driveshaft and new drop links to stop the banging too

Got my srs-tec wings fitted. Really happy with them and they certainly widen the front of the car making it look more aggressive.

Looking great. Will be spot on when you have the fitment sorted to match those luscious new wings
The paint match looks perfect. No mean feat on a silver car. Good times  :happy2:

Love the VMR 701, specially 19''s, but you can't go wrong with BBS VZ on our mk5s. :drinking:

Iv basically had the entire sides of the car painted as I was getting a little bit of bubbling on the rear arches but I have to say my mate did a great job on the paint

I still haven't had the vmr's on as they are on my brothers s3 but I'm looking forward to seeing how they look

The BBS are the wheels iv actually had the longest and were my first set of wheels back in 2006/2007 and are still my favourite but I do kind of want some BBS ch-r in 19"
