Title: GTI Sideskirts
Post by: JimmyC92 on October 20, 2014, 07:44:03 am
Been looking around for a pair, I have found a replica set on the bay however they seem pretty hard to come bye, anyone bought some before and could recommend? Also how are they fitted?

Best to go to a VW dealer. They're cheaper than ebay. Fitting with screws and bonding tape.

Scrap yard, front end collision car with no damage to skirts would be about 30 each. Remove them with a hairdryer to loosen the double sided tape and some strong floss or thin string.

Or if you're feeling lazy (most likely what I would do) go to VW. Ask them about the correct double sided tape, too thick and they won't sit flush and they'll also allow water ingress in between panel leading to rusting down the line.

On a side note, while they're off the car have them colour coded!

The genuine black non-colour coded ones from VW/TPS are under £90 for the pair, I picked a set up a few weeks ago and then had them smoothed and painted for £70 a side, fairly expensive all in all but still cheaper than buying pre-smoothed ones from VW/TPS.

Personally I think you're best going genuine as if they don't quite fit right they'll trap a lot of water/muck over time and could cause issues further down the line.

Use Fishing Nylon, excellent for removing anything stuck on, especially good at badges.

Ask them about the correct double sided tape
They come pre-taped.

This is the best way also you need the fitting kit it's mad the edition 30 ones are like 250 each and black ones from tps are roughly 40 each

Just out of intrest, how are these fitted, are they just bonded or do you need any fittings for them?
