Title: Advice Please - Buying a Yaris
Post by: lukemk5gti on October 20, 2014, 04:18:01 pm
A friend of mine is buying a yaris, I got sick in my mouth a little when she told me but each to their own.

So I know my way around a car and I'm taking a look at other forums for advice but anyone on here have experience with them before they got their pride and joy mk5 GTI?

Anything to look out for?

I believe it's an automatic 2006 model.

I've tried talking her out of it but to no avail. Even if this think we're going to see tomorrow night is a rust bucket I bet she'll still want it.

Most Toyota cars of recent years have been subject to recalls, so I would research which models have had recalls then make sure all work has been carried out(providing there were some of course). Seeing as the Yaris doesn't have the same sort of following as a VW, I'd be surprised if there's much, if anything, on the net about them.

Toyotas are usually are mechanically superior to our MK5 golfs. Listen for the usual knocks, bangs, rattles from the engine etc. . .

Providing they are well looked after they are solid little runabouts  :happy2:

I love my Mrs little peugeot 107 (mechanically identical to Toyota Aygo). It's easier to drive in traffic, easy to get in & out of, costs nothing to run and perfect for town driving. My GTI gets used for the longer trips

Have a look on http://www.yarisclubuk.com/forum/, they're not a bad bunch on there. My daughter had a Yaris as a first car a few years ago, and they're mechanically fairly well put together. ARB drop links were common on them from memory, but that was on a Mk1 (up to 2005), while you sound like you're going for a Mk2.

Oh, and the rear wipers are an arm and a leg. Daughter had hers pulled off by the monkeys in a safari park. I sent an email to the local Toyota dealers asking for a price for a new one "£60 please!" So I emailed back and said "I only want the wiper, not the motor as well..."
