:fighting:Hiya!
First things first, I'm Morgen.. I'm 19 and I stay in Scotland.
In July of last year, my trusty little Volkswagen Up! was damaged quite badly by a "friend".. So I fell out of love with it and the hunt for a new car began.. 59bhp didn't thrill me so the thing was stanced: lowered 100mm+ on some fat Borbet A's and it looked the absolute bom-diggity! But anyway, I wanted power this time and decided I was going all out. So I purchased a DSG Edition 30 Golf of course! I had looked at the 1.4tsi or the 2.0 gt-tdi but decided that wasn't enough..
I have one problem though - I don't earn an absolutely massive wage and I'm stuck between function or form...
Do I
A) Stance the absolute crap out of it even though it has too many doors and will never look as good as some others do?
B) Go for more ponies and smiles per gallon?
I'm so stuck - I've had two months so far to decide and I still can't!
Thanks guys :)
My little Up!

And the new ED30 :)

Welcome along!
The up of yours looked really cool! Once you've decided which direction to take the eddy, this place will help you find all the parts to make it happen!

Hiya Morgen!
Seeing as you've chosen the GTI (and an ed30 for that matter) you should choose ponies and Smiles :happy2:
Low & slow best reserved for non-GTI's IMHO :ashamed:
Sensible drop and loads of powwwwwa FTW :driver:
-
All about those smiles per gallon as you have an Eddie

I'm just an absolute sucker for some good fitment haha! Gets me all flustered :signLOL:
I think I might aim for 300bhp and if I get anywhere near that at any point I'll be happy.. Best get cracking haha
-
Power!!!!!
Sorry but slammed is just wrong when you have a beast of a turbo under the bonnet..
your be the fastest thing on the road , and almost have the smuggist grin when something twice the money gets left behind

My problem is that I quite enjoy a show & shine haha!
-
mines shines and is 330+....just not slammed on the deck or its door cards and RNS Sat Nav havent been ripped out and are still factory :signLOL:
-
Pooooowwwweeeerrr
-
300bhp is basically just a stage 1 remap mate! So easy peasy.
Edition 30s aren't for slamming though. Get it going faster!
-
Go for the the extra power! Wil mean no more tortoise speeds over bumps and can still make it shine! Love the colour btw.... :happy2:
-
Welcome :happy2:
300bhp from an Ed30 is a case of £350! lol
So do that first, if its enough then just focus on the stance :happy2:
-
I'd go for power personally, I sold my Mk4 which was on air and 'stanced' to buy my MK5. I have so much more fun driving the MK5 than I ever did driving the Mk4 :driver:
-
I think you should lower it but only sensibly to reduce the wheel arch gap and stick on a nice set of wheels but mostly just make it go faster. If you slam it on coilovers you're not going to be able to have fun driving it hard because you'll be constantly worried about where you're going to scrape it. I speak from experience lol

Defo power!
I had a similar quandary, the roads I drive are so bad and the stock suspension works really well so I'll be on the hunt for power.
Nice colour by the way... Steal grey is defo the best!!!

Power  and sensibly lowered imo.

I'm new to performance modifications over styling tbh, what does getting to 300 even involve haha!
By the replies I'm gonna see how much power I can get out of it without spending all my pocket money :P
And a good set of coilovers too, for that "sensible" drop everybody's suggested! I quite like the wheels originally on the ed30... They'll be okay to stick with, won't they?
Tah guys

Literally just a remap for 300bhp. Full exhaust and intake for 330bhp. Fuel pump, inter cooler and possibly clutch for 360bhp. At this point you will want to consider brakes and other handling upgrades too.
Get some KW H&R or Bilstein coilovers, they drop enough and ride great. If you like the standard wheels then by all means keep them!
Tej.
-
I had been looking at KW's but most likely be Bilstein's due to the friendlier pricing haha :P
I've also noticed some lacquer peel on the roof, where the windscreen meets it... This sort of thing isn't coverable by any kind of warranty is it? The car's never had any sort of respray and has FVWSH.. Just a little bit annoying to see such an imperfection on an otherwise clean car
-
Has it have its windscreen replaced before? Might have happened then in some way?
-
Has it have its windscreen replaced before? Might have happened then in some way?
I did think this, but I can't tell! There are no receipts or anything for a new windscreen and it has a few service stickers in the corner
-
If its still the genuine VW windscreen it should have a VW logo etched into the glass on the lower passenger side. In saying that it may have had a genuine windscreen at the time of replacement also. But if its not got a VW logo it may give you an idea.
I'd say it may have had its windscreen replaced, and when removing the glass or bonding material, they have marked / cut into the metal a little. This may have caused it to rust over time or as your say start the lacquer to peel back.
-
I'll have to just get it sorted then haha! It's quite annoying as it's the only mark on the car I've noticed so far :sad1:

Not everyone likes power builds though. You can always have both
Although now I've gotten sick of "the scene" so much prefer a car to drive.
-
I wish I was older so I could buy another car to satisfy my wantings for stance.. :signLOL:
-
Just need to be richer, not older - I'm much older, and still can't get a car for each of my auto cravings!! :driver:

Older means richer! Pay rises, cheaper insurance etc
Today I bought some carbon fibre extensions for my flappy paddles.. Alongside a years insurance and paid my tax also
Most expensive Halloween ever, Golf will be on the road tomorrow though

You might want to look at Still Static, you can get seriously low drops but still have the handling you need for added power.
Your question shouldn't be "which should I do, power or prowess" but more "which should I do first?".
A bit of patience, part hunting and being prepared to pick up a spanner to crack the simpler jobs yourself will result in a more modified car than your budget first allows.
I really love your original Up!, it looked amazing.

To pick up a spanner, I'd need a spanner :sad1:
May invest in tools, no idea where even to begin with the mechanics of a car though haha!
Thanks as well, I do miss my little Up! I did a good job with her IMO :P

Halfords 150 piece socket set is the best place to start in terms of tool collection. Also get yourself a Haynes manual, it's a bible! That's where I started out, plus using online guides to help where the manuals fell short. No-one was born knowing how to do things to their cars.
I love Up!'s, especially dropped ones. They're under-rated as VW's in the show world go.
-
Start with a stage 1 map, it will transform your Eddy, once youve gotten used it to and if you require more power......then add more.
Some handling mods are always good, not only help with the aforementioned handling but with Coils or even speings will give you a nice stance.
Happy modding.
:happy2:
-
I agree the Halfords Professional Tools are OK for the DIY Mechanic and come with a lifetime warranty... break it, waltz in there and they replace it no questions, win.
It's nice to know a bit, if only not to get fleeced when you go to a garage; but if you find a decent Indy that won't happen.
Start with the Brakes on an Eddy imo; R32 / Golf R then get it mapped at a decent tuner who will check the cam follower as part of the process.

I bought a mk2f Polo to start messing around with back in March, then annoyingly lost my job and couldn't purchase the Haynes manual and tools I had already planned haha, so also sold the car! I may as well get the Halfords set, its not too dear and I suppose it'll be worth it in the end.. Nothing wrong with getting down & dirty :ashamed:
My little Up! only managed one show: cumbriavag.. My so-called friend opened my drivers door into a moving car and completely wrecked it. Needed a new door and a wing, too.. He said he'd come up with the cash after two months of failing to source a door.. Then said he wasn't paying a penny at all! So I sold up, as the gearbox wasn't too friendly either :innocent:

My boyfriends already gone on and one about that bloody cam follower.. It'll probably be the first thing getting checked and it'll be booked in for a DSG service in December. Yum, pricey!
-
That bloody cam follower is a DIY job (with a Halfords set) and could save your engine, you'd be amazed at how worn it could be. Anyone mentioned checking the PCV and DV to you either?
-
Nope, I've been told to get the cam follower checked as the cars on 74k ish, and to have a DSG service as it unfortunately hasn't been done yet and it realllllly should have. That's all I've been told so far! The belt & water pumps been changed in february this year though, I know that much :ashamed:
-
Going back to tools
If you get hold of a halfords trade card, or know someone who has one then you get a big discount on tools and oils, bulbs etc :happy2:
-
CF: It's defo a DIY job for those confident enough, I wouldn't advise it for someone starting out tbh... fuel pressure being my biggest concern. Tip: Opening the Drivers door primes the fuel pump (listen for it next time you get in the car first time in the day) so if you do the follower make sure the door isn't opened... spillage on Isle 6/
It's a very real problem of the TFSI though, but it's a great engine, especially the Eddy with the K04 and the ability to easily extract 300 bhp.
-
Testing the Pressure Control Valve (PCV) takes 10 seconds. Get your engine warm and at idle, then pull the dip stick out. If the engine tries to stall and catches itself, PCV is fine. If it idles flat however, you'll need to replace it.
The Diverter Valve (DV), for you, is right at the front of the engine near the top (can't recall exact location as I have a standard GTI which differs). Again, take it out and look at it. If it's got rips or tears in the rubber bit, it's knackered (funnily enough..!). Many options in terms of replacing it, dig around the fourm for advice.
There's also guides and more info if you have a quick search too! But defo get that DSG service done, as much as it'll sting you. A broken 'box will be a complete show stopper. Must do my 'box oil too at some stage (luckily I have a manual so not such a top priority! :P)

Not when you've just started a business and had a baby - although yeah, insurance is much cheaper!
Have you seen AP coilovers? Also yeah I would definitely get a socket set, some torx screwdriver bits and a good set of spanners and start tinkering. If you enjoyed the styling then you could always get in to modding the engine bay to look good too! Sometimes I think I'd rather be taking bits off the engine, or buffing my headlamps :signLOL: than driving... (not really!)
Defo do DV PCV and Cam Follower - firstly, they're great intros to car mechanics and secondly they're usually worth doing on a performance Golf with a few miles on it. http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,87824.0.html (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,87824.0.html)

YouTube is your friend on fixing stuff...pretty much a 'how to' video on anything and everything, although watch a few to make sure they tie up, some people skip the 'details'
-
Yesterday was the first day I had her on the road! so today I spent a good few hours cleaning the car.. Went to my friends who had some demon whatever it is snow foam..
So we used that on it, then I just shampoo'd it with some autoglym stuff anyway and employed my friends little cousin to clean my wheels :P :ashamed:
The paint isn't in too bad condition but my boyfriend had bought me some bilt hamber clay to do my last car with and I'd never used it before, so I cracked on with that and clayed the bonnet! Yay, first time for everything..
Had limited time as my friend had to go so we dried the car off & I headed off to Halfords as I'd run out of microfibres! Bought some microfibres and little spongey autoglym things to apply my polish with, then went home and cracked on!
Here she is after a wee polish

Then the rain came on quite heavy and it got really dark so I gave up after waxing only the bonnet :sad1:
But theres one good thing about rain!

After all this I decided I wanted to de-wiper the car in the pitch black.. So I remove the plastic cap and the little nut, too.. But the wiper arm itself wouldn't budge.. So I spent twenty minutes trying to shift it and it wouldn't move.. Oh well, I decided to take apart the inside at that point to save me getting frustrated more.. Trim on the inside came off, wiper motor is detached and the washer too... Now I've just gotta get that wiper arm off.. An hour later and it's still not off. I am at my wits end  having to wait until tomorrow now so I can get some help with it.. I feel a bit stupid but I've tried my best, watched guides and done everything I've been told to without any success  Stupid car! Now the rear end is covered in handprints and god knows what, I feel sometimes like I don't know why I bother trying to do things myself, I'm such a useless female :signLOL:
Here's what I can't get..

PLEEEEEASE somebody tell me they've had a similar issue and I'm not JUST totally useless :ashamed: :ashamed: :ashamed:
I'll clean her again the next time there's a dry weekend though!
-
The amount of "10 minute DIY jobs" that have taken me days is beyond a joke. Don't give up. :happy2:

Don't be so hard on your self. Nothing is ever easy. Getting the boot interior trim off is a pita i broke two clips. Take your time. Get some pointers before you start.. or loose your temper and break something.
-
Not sure if you have one handy, but a Ball joint separator has worked for me before. Just need to put a cloth or something behind it to protect the glass. This is one from Halfords:
http://www.halfords.com/motoring/garage-equipment/car-tools/laser-ball-joint-separator-cup
-
Okay, an update! I gave up :sad1:
Decided that it was time to call it a day and go to bed, went a wee drive first so I can go to bed with a wee smile on my face though! The boyfriend is gonna have a look tomorrow.. I'll ask if he can supple me tools and lemme know how best to go about it so I can at least say I've finished a job by myself :ashamed: :ashamed: I've never done anything like this before so it would be nice to say I have haha, even if it's just a tiny thing!
-
Keep going. First time I changed an oil filter on my mk2 it took over 8 hours and several layers of skin to get it off. Now it takes less that 5 minutes. Practise makes perfect!

Agreed! If you never try any of these jobs you'll never learn, but once you have attempted a few things then it all becomes a little less scary. Good luck - your Eddy is looking amazing.
-
Definitely keep the ED30 wheels, they look awesome, but I recon you can find the perfect balance between stance and power!
-
Okay, so the wiper-arm had "seized on" apparently.. I forgot that I work in a car dealership and could just ask the workshop guys to use their tools :ashamed: :pomppomp:
Car is now de-wipered
-
So when we all said about getting tools, you actually have access to a full garage already? Not fair... :sad1:
-
Hehe I'm still gonna get my own
It'll be easier to get things done that way!
-
So with my last car getting 480 miles to a £44 tank.. I expected to cry at the fuel costs with the edition.. I've done 151 miles to half a tank. I think that's fantastic! Meaning I'll get approx 280-300 miles out of a tank while town driving  HOW?! That's not cry-worthy :signLOL:
-
The fuel economy of the GTIs is what swayed me to them!
I would get around 320 miles to a full tank in my standard GTI.
-
Also - if you're selling those wheels - please let me have first dibs! :jumping:
As a fellow steel grey-er of couse...
-
I'm sad today :sad1:

Notice anything about this picture? The lack of tinted light to the left is bothering me.. I can't find one on ebay to replace it either. Am I going to have to go to the main stealers?
-
You'll be lucky to find one on its own so may have to go dealers - worth trying your local TPS and say your in the trade and they will give you a bit of a discount. Or if your feeling brave you could separate the lense and spray the red backing black and you will have the same look as the rest :happy2:
-
i got one individual from the dealers

I could try paint, if it's still not matching I can then go to the dealers hehe tah!i got one individual from the dealers
Mind me asking how much it'll set me back? :)

Be careful if you split the lenses - they are easy to shatter!

I think I'll phone VW on my lunch break & get a price :) Too much effort to paint & stuff :ashamed:
-
I also got a original for condensation build up in a single and it was only 70 quid including the dreaded
-
Still haven't bothered to phone VW for a price on the light :( Tyres are more important I reckon - as it's coming up for winter and she's running budgets all round!!
Been quoted 110 per corner for Dunlop SP Max, supplied and fitted :) so I can't grumble at that
-
Have a look on tyreleader :happy2:
You can get some GY Assy 2's or Michelin Pilot Supersport for around £100 a corner, they are much better than Dunlop SP Maxx
-
i got Pirelli P Zero Rosso XL for less than a hundred
-
I got Michelin pilot sport 3's @£74 all day (225/40/18). Got a few sets of yoko ado8's in that size which ain't much use to me as I'm running 10's on my track mk5 and don't use my edition 30 enough to warrant them as it's a daily
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

£74?! I paid nearly £110 per corner for mine! That's a steal! :drinking:

Got a guy on the inside lol. Never pay full price for anything

Another vote for Tyreleader - I've got P Zeros, but they were on there when I bought the car. I bought Nokian WR D3s for my winter wheels from Tyreleader and they cost around 20% less than anywhere else, delivered.
Next tyre swap I do I'm going for GY Eagle F1 Assy 2, as so many recommend them for these cars

It was between the Goodyears and the Dunlops.. I know the Goodyears are fantastic! I used to work for a tyre specialist and we worked alongside the GY/Dunlop group specifically.. I've been to a few training courses and the information I've received from those has highlighted that the Goodyears are fantastic as an all round tyre - yes, but the Dunlops have very similar ratings, are from the same provider and are more suited to "fast road use" than even the eagle f1 asymmetrics are!
I've also looked into Michelins as we tried working with them too, but they didn't sell very well due to being more pricey.. I'm personally going to stick to GY/Dunlop :) I wouldn't go for conti's or anything like that either! I'd quite like to get a bit of mileage from my tyres
-
Remember to factor in fitting - can be up to £20 per corner, depending on how greedy the fitters are ...
I've used www.tyre-shopper.co.uk (part of National Tyres & Autocare) and mytyres.co.uk fitted service in the past and found them both very good.
Some say that GY AS2 are squidgy due to soft sidewall.
I have been buying Conti SC5, great in the dray and wet. A little noisy on some surfaces though. Wear is ok, I get appr. 15k miles.
-
Michelin are doing £70 fuel voucher with 2 x 17" tyres jn november
http://www.michelin.co.uk/tyres/special-offers/fuel/terms
Don't know if you can claim twice for 4 tyres? why not visit twice and have 2 fitted at a time? guess they've thought of that one :sad1:

The 110 I've been quoted per corner for the Dunlops is the fully fitted price :) We used to get cars coming in on 22-30k miles for their first MOTs and they still had their original tyres on! Typically found to be Michelins or Goodyears/Dunlops in which case haha

It's a £30 voucher for two fitted, or £70 if you get a set of four :) Goodyear usually do similar offers.. Usually a £50 voucher for four or £20/£25 for two.. All depends on sizing/speed rating etc of the tyre. I'll have a look when I'm in but 110 seems a nice price considering they'll no doubtedly throw in a free 4 wheel alignment if I bat my eyelashes at them enough :innocent:

I got 1off 225/45/17 91Y Michelin PS3 for £100 fitted at HiQ 2 months ago. They'll match or better any online price they can check up on.

The problem with this is that my tyre size is 225/40x18 haha!

If they are 18" you can get Michelin pilot super sports, instead of pilot sport 3s........ :driver:

With Christmas only round the corner, I can't really afford to buy anything for the car :sad1:
Soooo, my boyfriends kindly surprised me with interior LEDs. How nice is he :ashamed:
May have to invest in a cherry red hazard switch too, just as a treat

Good lad. He knows where his bread is buttered!
I just installed interior LEDs myself this weekend. If you need a guide - (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5rBV3EmlYU)
Piece of p*ss really - the only difficult one is under the driver's footwell, and I haven't had time to do that one yet so can't advise! The trick with the metal cases on the passenger footwell and glove is to get a really small screwdriver and ease the metal away from the tabs without bending them - you can unplug the electrics before doing it which makes it much easier (although the passenger footwell plug is tricky to get at with my sausage fingers - your hands might be less spade-like!)
It defo brightens up the interior. I did red in the footwell for a bit of GTI glow...
-
He'll probably fit them, to be honest  He's much more handy than I am! Thanks though :)
I had been under the impression that having an ipod dock in the armrest meant I could plug in an ipod, press CD twice on my RCD300 and I would be able to play my music through it.. Wrong. Doesn't work! It's as if it doesn't recognise there's any form of ipod connectivity.. Same thing happened when we tried fitting an aux input into the back.. Nothing!
Stumped - why is this?
-
Is there not an option in the menu to switch aux function on and off?
-
Morgen
take a look here

Long & short of it is, the VW ipod dock is rubbish ... I still need to find some time to take it apart and connect an extension lead to it.
-
Same thing happened after a while with the iPod dock in the R32 my dad had, they do seem pretty badly designed as the iPod was so loose. I had the MFD2 with 6 disk CD changer in my GT, then added an XCarlink iPod loom which is basically the same thing as the dock to give me the iPod connectivity, so that could be an option if the dock is broken. I ended up swapping it all out after about 2 months and installing the RNS510 which is far better all round :signLOL: Got loads of pics in my build thread if your interested as another member was asking about the XCarlink.
-
Thanks guys! Not been able to have a look into it as of yet, been a busy wee bee! but when I get around to it I'm sure it'll be sorted :ashamed:
Sunday was spent cleaning the car.. Washed, clayed, polished & waxed :) should do for a good while! Here's a wee picture after claying but before polishing and waxing.. It got dark :sad1:

Sorry about the late reply! But aye was probably me, I'm in town a lot on friday and saturday evenings haha :innocent:
Awesome looking Eddy
Thanks very much! She is a beauty, I do agree
Attempted to fit my LEDs last week while I was off work... Blew a fuse :sad1: Of course I don't have any fuses to hand so I had to go a few days with no interior lighting. Thoooough, they're all now fitted and it looks lovely! Except the drivers footwell however as there was one LED missing from my kit
-
Unlucky...where'd you get the kit from?
I had the same problem...One was missing and one didn't work :sad1:

I didn't buy them but as far as I'm aware they're from ebay. Fortunately all of mines were working. it's just a tad annoying having one light left to do

Rubbish picture but my pedders coilovers are now fitted :) the top mounts have kinda fallen apart though and I have absolutely no clue how to get ahold of new ones considering pedders are an australian brand... How annoying
-
Cars looking good, makes me want to run mine without a front plate! Sucks about the top monts, you sure some uprated ones wouldn't work?
-
Shame about the top mounts I e heard good things about these Coilovers tho!

A few more :) my lower grill seriously needs some attention! It's practically grey :(

Nice! really like this.
What have you done with your numberplate? Like the idea of a smoothed grill. Also, how did you get the rear lights tinted? What do you plan on doing to get the grill restored? Have you heard about using a hairdryer/heatgun?

Thanks man! I'm a badass (idiot) and run my plate in my window haha! May purchase a square plate and make a holder so I can run it on one of my fog grills.. :ashamed:
The rear lights came tinted as standard - they do on the ED30s and R32s
I had a quick look through the detailing section and I don't think I'll go down the heat route - probably just buy a good g technix product and see what it can do!
-
Cars looking great :happy2:
Just buy a new bottom grille, I recently replaced all mine and bought one on eBay for like £20 delivered and it fits perfect, it's such a PITA shape wise you'll really struggle to get It looking new again.

Thank ya! This is probs a far better idea lol, the open fog grills as well as the top gti grill are both new so replacing the bottom one too seems a good shout. I'm just stingy with money
-
Found the eBay number 180931936425
£14.22 delivered and took about a week for mine to arrive. You can easily spend that much on a bottle of product and it won't look as good :happy2:
-
You not thought about doing the magnetic front plate modification? I did it on my smoothed grill (when I ran one) and I had no problems at all with it. Meant when I parked up I can take the plate off and when driving put it on so the law is happy. Win-win situation.

So, I've been a busy gal lately! No improvements to the car really, just repairs

Noticed at cumbriavag that my windscreen had been cracked. Damn stonechips. My MOT is due 16th of July so I've now got this fixed.. Put the car in for its MOT on Friday & it failed of course.. See picture
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F15%2F07%2F06%2Ff1fe7f1f6801f1be23cdc48c08756f97.jpg&hash=9530acbb8c42f6cdfb1b7e2532aa1b030ee4cc5e)
Don't laugh about the registration plate... They said they'd stick it on for me but clearly couldn't be bothered :(
But anyway - saturday went & got two new tyres for the front, went down a section size & raised it slightly too so now there's no reverse rake and more importantly, no scrubbing! Then my boyfriend sealed up the exhaust. Happy days - car should now pass no bother! In for retest today :)
Spent Saturday night gutting the interior, hoovering, treating the leather, rubbers and plastics etc then five hours on Sunday cleaning the exterior. Look how beautiful she is now!!

It could always be better until you start (like I did) getting quotes for full re-spray. Even then you'd not be happy because the engine bay isn't as clean... It's a slippery slope.

I've had a quote for a front end respray... But I've since scuffed the rear bumper on a stupid bit of rock & noticed it has slight lacquer peel too! So a full respray would be needed. :sad1:
Cleaned the engine bay too yesterday as best I could, but half of it is missing so that annoyed me more than the dirt did

except the cv boots, those will get done next month

Top mounts arrived from Australia and were fitted yesterday.. No more horrible knocking noises from the front! The dampening has also been adjusted and for how low it's sitting it's literally the comfiest thing ever ... Quite possibly may have lowered the front again too
Happy days! I'm on a stand at the Scottish car show next Sunday.. Then the following week it's time for Scottishvag! Busy busy :pomppomp:

Hahah, maybe he's broken..
Got fed up of my GTI badge being missing at the front due to the clips snapping off. I've just superglued the edition30 badge onto the bottom & now glued it onto my grill as a permanent feature! That'll do

See what you mean about the grill, have a look into the magnets, quite an easy little project
And some plastic revive for that bottom grill ;)
-
I think that bottom grill is completely past it to be honest! The other three are brand new so when I get paid I'm just gonna spend the £14.22 to buy a new one.. Somebody linked me to one previously in this thread
I've spent a small fortune this month getting it through an MOT so no more car parts for me until payday, no matter how small :ashamed:

So, guys. Help or advise needed!
I'm unsure if this is an issue with GTI's in general, or specific to my car and there's a problem somewhere... The car was serviced in March 2015 in my work with 5W30 oil. My oil light was thrown up in May and I checked the dipstick - nearly empty! I had only covered 2k miles since the last change. I was advised to put 5W40 in the car, so I did. I've just checked my oil because it's been two months since changing (and probably another 2k miles or less) and my oil is very very low. Not quite low enough to throw the light but far lower than I want it to be.
Is oil consumption of this level normal? I also get ridiculous MPG but that's another story

Check the filter housing for any leaks. Consumption seems high.

:sad1:
My car was rear-ended this morning by a taxi driver... It's not been inspected yet but so far it looks like I need a bumper and a diffuser as they're cracked. I've now been faced with the decision to swap to the R32 rear end or get anothed ed30 rear bumper etc. The R32 rear is a mod I was considering but I can't afford to buy a full exhaust for the car at present. Are you able to buy just the R32 backboxes to fit a GTI? I'm so confused and sad right now
-
AFAIK you can get just the rear R32 section. I think @MC71 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=4913) exchanged his Ed. 30 rear section for a R32 from BCS. You might need an adaptor to connect the rear box with the rear section if they're not the same diameter. Ask @vRSAlex (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1981) about what's needed to do it.
If you plan on doing that mod in the future, might as well do it now for less money. :happy2:
-
Thanks pal :) will do some googling tonight and see what I can find... Gonna need to make a decision sooner rather than later. My bodyshop of choice has quoted me a total of £913.30 to fix everything for me with genuine ed30 parts, but that includes the slam bar and I may not need that.
Also added a poll. I'm still undecided on whether or not to actually go for an R32 rear. Sorely, sorely tempted! Need opinions first  I think a few photoshops are in order :innocent:
-
I think in the end your taste is what matters the most. Check MC71's project, since he has both rears to compare.
I've decided to keep my rear unchanged. It already has the lower section of the spoiler painted gloss black the way I like.
-
I think an R32 rear with a carbon fibre diffuser would go so well with your cars colour :D
-
Possibly a change of plan! My boyfriend's adamant that it can be repaired so I'm getting the car checked out tomorrow to see if that's an option..
-
If you do end up going for an R32 rear there is a genuine bumper for sale in the classifieds I think.
-
R32 bum frets my vote! :happy2:
IMHO the R32 rear bumber lower section is much better aesthetically than the OEM Eddy one as its lines complement the side skirts perfectly. You don't need to have a R32 style exit zorst either, just swap out the R32 diffuser to a side exit one.
You options are many, a few...
1, Repair and keep as is, will look great.
2, Genuine or copy R32 lower bumber section with R32 diffuser and new R32 style cat back.
3, Genuine R32 lower bumber section with SRS Tec side exit diffuser for OEM exit, be it with your standard exhaust or a aftermarket one.
I already had a side exit BCS TBE so I just needed the rear assembly to mate to it for a R32 exit. You'll need a whole cat back which will join to your OEM downpipe no props with a supplied connector.

Had to go through insurance in the end so it's all being fixed as it would have been from factory
.. Been given a 1.5 diesel mini one as a courtesy car and I've fallen head over heels in love with it though!

Hard to find a girl/woman who doesn't love Minis. :P

Awesome news! :)
Mini coopers look so good stanced, it's one of those cars that we all have which we love but hate to admit it haha

@shoduchi, I hate the look of them! It's how it drives and the interior that makes it so wonderful! My boyfriend buzzes about it as much as I do and he's a VW guy

@ephemeross I am tempted to buy one... Getting 85mpg in the motorway makes me feel tingly inside haha

SHE'S BEAUTIFUL

No modifications since I last posted which is a little frustrating but as usual I've been paying a fortune to keep this thing in decent shape..
Hit a pothole in town that was filled with water and damaged one of my front tyres so badly that the wire from the bead was poking out! Had to go to halfrauds to buy a jack so I could change my wheel over. So I changed my first ever wheel! I noticed that my tyre was also down to the chord on the inside even tho there were no scrubbing noises clear while driving.. So I bought some spacers while I was there to make sure my tyres clear the struts! Managed to get another 205/40X18 tyre for £35. Bargain
I then booked her in for a wheel alignment as it was crabbing all over the road while I was driving. Turns out the two rear control arms needed replaced :( so after a 212 quid bill, she actually drove in a nice steady straight line again.. Great price imo for two rear control arms and a four wheel alignment with a print-out! Thoroughly recommend Automek in East Kilbride to anybody around the area! :pomppomp:
Started getting a rumble from my nsr wheel bearing just five days before ed38 so I had to go down in the boyfriends car rather than take my own.. Didn't want to do a stupid amount of miles knowing it needs done! So I've purchased a new bearing ready to be fitted whenever he has time.
I've still not had the front cv boots done.. Should probably get around to that too!
It's now been 6 months since my car was serviced so I've bought a filter and some oil. I MAY attempt servicing by myself. May is the key word here :signLOL:
-
What brand tyre did you get for £35?
-
What brand tyre did you get for £35?
Bridgestone Potenza :) 6mm of tread! I wouldn't run budgets haha
-
NSR Wheel bearing done.. Just the two front CV boots to be done and I'll finally have a car with no broken bits! :jumpmove:
-
Get those CV boots done otherwise you'll be regretting it son enough, especially with winter coming up! And as for doing the oil, it's straight forward enough to do yourself and it's the best job to start out learning for yourself, its certainly how I started working on engines and now I'm swapping them, ripping them apart and all sorts.
Or maybe you shouldn't do an oil change, it works out cheaper in the long run... :P

CV boots are being purchased on the 30th when I get paid! Rooked this month :( Then fitted hopefully that weekend! I know it'll be pretty straight forward, I just get really anxious doing things to my car when I'm around my boyfriend and unfortunately he's the one with the tools :scared:
My Mum has said she might get me tools for Christmas.. I was supposed to buy them this year but I just haven't got around to it!
-
Are you going.to.do.the cv boots yourself? I can certainly help you with the driver side one. Id say have someone there on hand to help/hold when you need it
-

In all honesty, probably not! I'll watch my boyfriend doing them so I've got an idea what to do.. I'm really nervous when it comes to mechanics :ashamed: I'll do the oil and filter change myself but he's said cv boots can be tricky/annoying so I'm not confident at all!
-
Yeah they can be. the difficulty is disconnecting and reconnecting the CV joint. took me about 7 hours total lol. I'm sure I could at least half that now I've done it before. You also need the right pliers to close the clamps around the boots.
-
Lovely looking edition 30, glad its all been repaired!, where did you get the pressed plates from as well ?
Thanks
Mark

My boyfriend burst a driveshaft on his mk4 on the way to edition 38 last month and managed to get it changed over in 30 minutes tops with his friend... He's really quite good so hopefully it won't be too much of a rubbish job considering the weather's starting to worsen. Damn winter :scared:

I got them off ebay, about 19.50 from a member called Unit67! I've bought 5 or 6 of these exact plates and they're fantastic :) I've not been pulled with them on, and neither has anyone else that I bought them for!
-
I've noticed that I say "my boyfriend" far too often.. I should really start doing things to my own car. But aye, his name is Adam.
So, Adam ended up doing the oil and filter change. I wasn't feeling up to learning yesterday but it really needed done so I had to beg for a little while :ashamed: He showed me what to do at least so I'm not completely in the dark for next time! Bought the cv boot kits on Friday too so once they're fitted that's all the mechanical repairs completed (touch wood)
Gonna put it in for it's "winter check" at some point mid-November just to see if there are any more surprises for me just before Christmas! I swear this car is gonna bankrupt me :sad1:
-
Just some photoshops... I think I'm 100% set on 3sdm 0.04s as my wheel of choice though!

I honestly have no idea what one it is! I just seen an intake for £155 and pressed buy it now haha
Sounds lovely, really wooshy and the occassional flutter :ashamed: Makes me tingle inside. Car also feels like it pulls far better now but I'm putting that down to the fact my air intake was barely existing previously? I'm not good when it comes to engines and mechanics so I don't even know if it was a factor but I swear it drives better!
-
Fair enough! I'm considering getting one (literally just for the noise so I can be like a kid at Christmas every time I put my foot down!) but I also quite like the look of my engine cover...
In terms of being quicker, it is possible as far as I'm aware but I think most people say it will have little to no difference in most cases.

that's what I would do because the noise is lovely! My engine cover had to go anyway haha

Had ten minutes left on my lunch and was a little bored, so I replaced my headlight switch..
Tried to take the drivers side grab handle off to replace the window switches too but it's being ridiculously stubborn. I don't have any trim removal tools so I'm going to try using a butter knife when I get home
-
Nice, switch upgrades are on my to do list

New headlight switch really does make a lot of difference for some reason... Looks great!

The drivers side door switches are doing my head in.. I've removed the grab handle but can't get the switches out due to these pesky little plastic tabs!

But anyway..
When I first posted this thread last year I asked whether I should go for stance or speed... I wasn't able to make up my mind so it seemed to start going in the direction of stance. After fitting an intake I've started to consider performance modifications, after all Ed30s are ridiculously tuneable... My goal is a simple 300bhp so I'm tempted to book her into R-Tech as a christmas present from me to my car.
Other than replacing the PCV and DV, what else should I do before taking it for a remap? Or would it be gravy just to map it with the intake as my only performance enhancing modification? Thanks
I don't understand the "stage" system either. What makes a car stage 1? What hardware does that require? Same for 1+, 2, 2+ etc. Would appreciate if someone could explain, in dumb terms for me if possible!
-
Fair enough! I'm considering getting one (literally just for the noise so I can be like a kid at Christmas every time I put my foot down!) but I also quite like the look of my engine cover...
In terms of being quicker, it is possible as far as I'm aware but I think most people say it will have little to no difference in most cases.
Pretty sure you can get the ttrs engine cover to fit after.
Lovely car, really like it! Really want an ed30 myself!!!
-
Stage one is just a map no other hardware needed although thats not to stop you from having stage two plus hardware and only having stage one map will just give a better looking graph i should think.
I was going to explain all but remembered about this page which explains all in a much mopre simple way than i could explain.

I've heard the ttrs cover will fit with an intake too :) I'm going to run without one now though! I quite enjoy the racey look it gives! Considering r8 coil packs to help a wee bit with that

Thanks man! I might phone r-tech up and ask them a few questions.. It's a 5 hour drive so I don't want it to feel like a half-wasted trip in any way! :ashamed:

Gave the engine bay a wee clean on lunch... For some reason my R8 oil cap doesn't fit
so the standard one will have to do until I sort something out
Also rain-x'd my windows but my scene window sticker died so it was time to say goodbye

I need another, I enjoy scene windscreen stickers.

A girl into the VW modifying scene?

I love the colour of your car, I must say the wheels do really work :happy2:

Haha we're a rare species I will admit! But it's not as uncommon as you think! Granted, I'm the only one of my female friends that knows how to remove a wheel :signLOL:
Thanks  I do agree! Grey on grey is one of my favourite combinations

Been a while..
My brother bought me a gti dead pedal for christmas so I've got that to go on, and Adam bought me a mk6 climatronic unit. I'll need to buy the mk6 fascia so it fits and also find out how to fit it! But yays for pretty interior things :)
Just purchased purple fog light tint and a windscreen sticker, to satisfy the wantings to be a scene queen. I love purple.
"Financial Mistake" is pretty fitting though, I had to press buy it now.
-
"Financial Mistake" windscreen sticker has arrived, along with my purple fog light tint. Those can wait though because the car truly is a financial mistake and I am a moron.
Managed to reverse into a Corsa at speed, though I'll make myself feel a bit better and admit that it was in my blind spot. But still, I hit it. I need a bumper, rear diffuser, parking sensor and replace my two rear drivers side tail lights.. The outer one is smashed so that's a priority :( The inner is just slightly cracked. Haven't washed the car in about two months so it's absolutely disgusting to look at. Completely fallen out of love.
Purchased an outer tail light, need to fit it when I can be bothered.. Also, the same day I damaged it my pad wear light popped up on the dash so I need to order discs and pads now too.. Oh and fix the Corsa. I'm utterly skint.
Then, I get a lovely screw in my front tyre and have had to pop the spare on for now. I honestly want to cry when I look at it. She was so beautiful.
Then to add insult to injury, my drivers window managed to open itself in tropical rain and I only realised when the alarm was set off about four hours later... Car was utterly soaked and my central locking no longer works. I have to open the car with the key and it sets the alarm off.
Also, the sunglass holder fell out on top of my head and it hurt. Then the rest of the plastics decided to follow suit. I'm so fed up of this car but I know I'll love it when I fix her all up so must remain somewhat positive. Cry cry cry. I'll upload some pictures when I'm on my phone but I needed to write this long post to vent a little bit about how much I hate it. Broken. Stupid. Golf
In other news, my Mum has just traded her diesel A4 in for a 57 black GTi. What a woman :drinking:
EDIT:
Adam took my key apart: central locking now works again! The mind boggles.. Oh and I ordered rear footwell lights and they've arrived now too.. Something else to fit when I can be arsed. No motivation for the car at present.
To fit:
Rear footwell lights
Windscreen sticker for all of the scene
Rear outer tail light
Purple fog light tint
GTi Dead Pedal
To buy:
Front CV Joints
Front discs & pads
Rear bumper (May now go for an R32 rear)
Rear parking sensor
Rear diffuser
Corsa rear light
Corsa Bumper
Valium

Youv had some really bad luck! Hope you get everything back together cause you know you'll be head over heals again when she's fixed up, clean and sparkling :happy2:
-
That's somewhat of an horror story... :surprised:
Hope everything can be sorted soon so you can love and drive your Eddie again.
I can sell you a couple of rear parking sensors that I removed from my Golfs when I installed OPS sensors, if you want. I've already sold a couple to Northern Ireland.
-
Terrible luck, sorry to hear that :sad1:
I had a similar incident with my drivers window being open, and how my drive is sloped down and cambered 80% of the water that goes on the roof rolls down the drivers window. It was half open and was pisssing with rain, luckily only 5-10 minutes after it started raining my step dad came home (earlier than usual) and pointed it out so there was minimal damage.
Hope you get her sorted and fall back in love again soon :happy2:

I'm sure there will be enough people on here to help out with parts and what not. Considered going up to OE 345mm front brakes, seeing asyou need to replace discs and pads may as well upgrade? Bigger brakes may come in handy next time, without trying to sound funny. The amount of times my 345mm on my Golf GTI saved my bacon more than paid off the cost of them.
There's currently an R32 rear bumper or two for sale on this forum, I prefer the central twin exit exhausts personally so again I'd opt for that while you're replacing lights and stuff.
I know how you felt, when I ripped my interior apart in my Golf GTI it took months to sort everything out and even then I didn't get all the work done. It's hard to keep going when the odds are stacked against you but when you get the result you were after, it's totally worth it, trust me.

I'll consider the parking sensor offer! I think I'm leaving that until last because the mechanical repairs and repairs to the other car come first. It's not going through insurance so any spare cash I had is now gone :(
Terrible luck, sorry to hear that :sad1:

I am looking at the primered R32 rear end that's on here at the moment though... Very very tempted to take out a loan and buy car parts. Bad idea! :P

Hit another pothole tonight, swear I'm attracted to them. Was driving 23 miles to drop my Mum off at her night out but had to come off the slip road on the motorway about five minutes into the journey due to a horrendous screeching noise coming from the drivers front wheel... Tried to get the car recovered because I didn't know how to fix it, but Adam phoned & told me to press down hard on the brake pedal while it was in neutral a few times before trying to drive it and trying to determine what the noise was exactly.. Pressed the brakes with both feet a few times, set off and the squeal was gone! Sticky caliper?
Just my luck eh  :ashamed:

So, glued the sensor together with a hot glue gun & drilled a screw through the bumper to keep the diffuser attached as the brackets are broken.. Mega cowboy'd but it's made a difference and my sensors are now functioning as normal.. Job well done if you ask me!

Would go for xenons next, IMO xenons just complete the front end of any GTI.

Did you get the fog light tint crease free? Drove me mad and ended up not putting any on. Did get a cheap ebay one though so probably wouldnt have stayed long anyway

Exhaust is next unfortunately! The exterior of mines isn't up to much at present so may as well focus on fast :ashamed:.. But next on the list after an exhaust and remap is a head unit or xenons. I'll see how I feel

Mines was cheap and from ebay too! £2.50 or so from China.. It's relatively crease free. Not entirely though! I stood with the heat gun while the other half smoothed out the creases, so it's him I owe that to

Thank you!
I'm not overly fussed by tints.. If it was candy white or red I probably would be but I reckon steel grey looks fine without :)
Milltek or BCS! It totally depends what's on offer at the time as it'll have to be an R32 style exhaust to fit the gti

Do like a steel grey Eddie!

Nice example.. theres quite a few ED30 owners up in scotland!

However, I have a puncture so that £40 is now going towards yet another tyre :sad1:

Okay, so nothing exciting has happened since my last post, because I'm skint as per usual.
Booked my car into my work for a major service - this could have been done myself but I couldn't be bothered finding out how to turn the light out and I wanted a stamp in my book as the last "official" service was exactly a year previous
They changed the oil and plugs etc, but couldn't check the car over as it's too low to get on our ramps! They sent her to the garage just down the road and they reported back that I need new front discs & pads, that I'm missing a backing plate from the nsr disc and that the long drive-shaft is rubbing on the anti-roll bar. I mentioned this to Adam and he persisted that it couldn't be.. Jacked the car up, had a look and it's not rubbing! The mind boggles. I am however watching some R32 calipers, discs and pads on ebay that are in my area. Very tempted!
I have another very very VERY VERY VERY annoying issue:
When driving at 50mph+ I start getting a horrendous vibration through the steering. At around 60-70mph it's so violent that the arm rest can actually be felt juddering from side to side and the steering wheel is quite difficult to hold comfortably. The car first did this back in September 2015 after receiving it back from a garage (was in for 2 rear control arms and a full alignment) and I assumed it was a wheel balancing issue so in October the wheels were finally balanced and the problem was still there. I took the car back to the garage that did the initial work and they checked it over... On the phone they said it sounds like a driveshaft problem so that's the first thing they checked. Absolutely no play in either shaft, and all the suspension appears sound. They suggested I raise the car as it was stupidly low, and this should eliminate my issue somewhat. I raised the car a few days later and they were correct, problem resolved to a standard I was comfortable with. However, it's back with a vengeance
I don't know what to do - there's still absolutely no play in either shaft! I don't want to go replacing them and it turns out to be something else, but no garage has been able to pinpoint anything at all wrong with the car.
People have suggested the tyres but both fronts are brand new and have been changed during the time period this problem has occurred.
The wheels being buckled has been another suggestion, so I'm going to swap the front wheels to the back to eliminate that option.
Has anybody else had this problem? I'm trying to get to the bottom of it with no luck! The cars DSG and driveshafts aren't friendly priced so I'd rather not replace them to find out they weren't ever the issue  HELP HELP HELP!
-
Have you had the wheel balance checked?
-
To be honest I haven't. When I let off the acceleration the judder is worsened which makes me think driveshaft :(
-
Worth getting them balanced... Its quick and cheap to do, just to rule that out.
-
Maybe worth checking drive shaft rubbers split
-

They were balanced in october after the issue first started and made no change :( I'll get it re-done to further rule it out though!
-
Maybe worth checking drive shaft rubbers split
The boots had split on the outer cv joints, but one boot was replaced and the cv joint on the other side was totally replaced too
-
Tracking been done?
Checked your tie rod ends, drop links and all the bushings?
Wheels mounted properly (spigot rings where required) and bolted to 120nm?
Steering rack been checked over?
Does the issue go away under braking? If so, could the discs be massively worn/warped?
Just my 10p, hopefully you'll find the cause soon enough.
-
Could be a front brake caliper binding on. I had it on a astra in work when you accelerate it pushes through the brake and you dont notice it so much but when you shut off you notice it more and get the vibration through the steering wheel. Jack it up and check the front wheels turn free by hand when in neutral. Usually gets worse when the brakes are hot due to expansion :happy2:

Nice, something else to add to the knowledge base. I'm assuming with a worn/warped front disc the problem will be exaggerated?

Thanks! I'll try this one tonight :happy2:
Hopefully that's the issue - as the front caliper did stick a few months ago! I'm watching brakes on ebay too so if that's the issue it's an easy fix

Hope you find a fix soon Morgen! Good luck

Yeah you got it mate plus if the caliper is stuck on it will warp the brake disc in no time.

Your 5mm spacers you have on the front of the car... im assuming they're not hubcentric if they're from halfords. (Just read your thread from start to finish) Could they be your problem with vibration?

They're cheap ripspeed crap, but I've honestly not even given them a thought!! I'd actually totally forgotten they're on there... When I've had my spacesaver on the front I haven't noticed the vibration and the spacer is never fitted with it. Though, with the spacesaver on I never exceed 50 either so who knows. It's a nice day today so I'm DEFINITELY going to swap my wheels round after work and see if removing the spacers makes any difference.
If that's the issue then I'm a moron
-
Okay...
So, removed the front wheels off my Mums gti and swapped them over to mines, to see if my wheels are potentially buckled... I also removed the spacers. Took the car a drive down the motorway and it was PERFECT! No issues at all... Absolutely beautiful.
So, it's my wheels or my spacers. I couldn't be bothered taking it a run on my own wheels without the spacers on so I'll do that another day. At least I'm one step closer to solving the issue and know it's 1 of 2 things :ashamed:
Picturessss! My Mums car looks pretty sweet on the pescaras but she wasn't keen!

My bet it's the spacers :signLOL:
Hopefully it is them and your wheels aren't buckled. You'll have to feedback what the issue is once you've diagnosed it out of the two final things.
Lovely looking ed30 by the way :happy2:

Non-hub centric spacers are dangerous! Get yourself some used H&R spacers. There's plenty that come up for sale, but if you don't need then for arch clearance, get them off while you source some decent spacers.

it will be the spacers..Are you going to cumbria vag this year as the am going to organise a club stand

Unfortunately they're not on for arch clearance... It's strut clearance :( the inside of the tyre wears away against it so I put the 5mm spacers on to solve that issue. I'm going to buy spacers today or tomorrow :) Hopefully get them fitted at the weekend!

My boyfriend is adamant that it's not the spacers... I can't wait for it to be exactly that because I love when he's so sure about something but I'm correct :innocent:
Not sure on cumvag yet.. Again that's down to the boyfriend! I don't know anybody else that's going down well enough to camp with them so it's entirely his call. I have a very good friend that lives down that way too so I'd love to go for that reason alone :ashamed:
Also update on yesterday.
Picked up R32 calipers, discs and pads for £250.. Discs have no lip on them and pads are pretty meaty. They look a bit sad but they'd been sat outside so that'll be why. Yay for brakes!
Got home, picked my car up (had driven to collect them in adams) and drove for about 1/4 of a mile and my passenger front wheel just randomly fell off... I had asked my friend to tighten that side up for me and he obviously never did. Lesson learned, always check :P Minimal damage to the hub, but the wheel goes on fine and the threads are good too! The wing popped out but it's back in place now and there's literally no visible damage.. I am a lucky, lucky girl!!
-
Eeek! Yes double check!! :scared:
-
Okay so I said I bought brakes & they looked a bit sad, but didn't post pictures... Here they are. Need a good clean up & the calipers need powdercoated red but other than that we're all good

If you had bad luck you wouldn't have luck at all lately,Just going to Cumbria vag for the Sunday
-
Which spacers do you have on?
-
Wheel fell off?! What did it feel like? How fast were you going? Did the whole car just drop? coupled with horrible grinding? I would have thought that that would definitely have damaged something! Lucky
-
Non hubcentric spacers are very stupid / daft.
-

None now, I've removed them haha! They were sh*tty halfords non hub centric ones just to clear the strut.

There was no strange feeling through the steering, no wobbles or funny noises. I had just pulled away from a roundabout when it happened, I had approximately one second of wobble before the wheel dropped as well as the car.. No grinding! In that second I managed to stop thankfully so that's why there's no damage :innocent:

We're not all perfect and they have been removed.

Update:
The vibration at 60+ mph had disappeared for a few days but has come back while on a spirited drive.. I'm now looking into the front brake discs being warped as that seems the next best port of call
-
If the vibration dissappeared when you put your mams wheels on then it can only be a problem with your wheels
-

The vibration went away for a few days when I took my spacers off too, so I'm not convinced. It doesn't make much sense

Exactly my thoughts :innocent:
My boyfriend's getting them powdercoated for me as my 21st birthday present, so they won't be on until the start of June.. I'll just need to live with it for now! :ashamed:
-
Could you try your mams wheels again with out the spacers for a day and see if that gets rid of it and try your wheels with out the spacers on you mams and see if the vibration is still thier
-
I reckon it's the spacers...I had 5mm spacers on my golfR & it had steering wheel vibration, swapped it for 8mm hubcentrics & it's all gone
-
It's not gonna be warped discs... because if the run out was so big it would cause you issues without being on the brakes then it would cause the car to shake itself to pieces if you went on the brakes.
The issues are either related your spacers or the wheels not being on tightly enough or you are losing wheel weights.
Take the car to a decent tyre shop. Have the wheels balanced and fitted (and torqued).
bet the problem will go away..

I've been trying to diagnose the issue for months - it's been to several different garages and the front wheels have been balanced multiple times but the issue remains. I now don't have the spacers fitted at all as the 205s clear the strut, so this is why I'm at a lost cause. The wheels are 100% on tightly enough as they've been torqued since the wheel incident last weekend  I've literally eliminated all issues with spacers, tyres and wheels but the vibration keeps coming back after a few days of thinking it was fixed. I don't understand what it could possibly be. Warped discs has been suggested by a few people as well as a sticky caliper so I'll find out if either of these are an option when the new brakes go on. No garage has been able to tell me the issue and it's been to a very very reputable one, too. They were baffled :sad1:
-
Are you running sticky pads?Would it be bits of pad stuck on the discs to cause the vibration?i had it on mine,re-skimmed the discs & it was gone
-

I've NEVER had vibration without braking.

Not much has happened car wise recently, which is a shame! I've been more interested in taking photos of my boyfriends mk4 than I have been when it comes to doing anything to my own :innocent: It is beautiful though:

After being in his which is lovely and clean inside I figured I'd do something about the state of the inside of mines! My seats were starting to look utterly filthy.. Spilling milkshake on the passenger seat definitely didn't help :sad1:
I don't think the interior has ever had a deep clean - Which gives me the fear a little bit due to it being an 8 year old, 5 previous owner car. So much filth!

Are you still looking for some Helio's?
Unfortunately I can't afford wheels! Insurance was due on the 2nd of this month
Not much to update again, been too busy spending my pennies on silly things like clothes and Xbox's... As I replied above, my insurance was due this month so that set me back £618 rather than the quoted £584 because of my non-fault claim in August last year... A £34 increase for having someone run into the back of my car while I was in my work is just unfair :stupid: Although, £618 at the age of 21 on an edition 30 isn't really a figure I can complain about!
Secondly, I put my R32 brake calipers in for powdercoating which cost me £80 but it's an absolutely fantastic job!! Purchased new seals and a new pad retaining clip as one was missing and I thought I was good to go... Never even considered that the brake lines would be different! That's what I get for not doing any research :signLOL:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20160706%2F6c8c29e14f316deb39ef95977379f244.jpg&hash=b02ffa774b962d48b663e728ea38c4b1c200dd1e)
Thirdly, my air con doesn't work and it never has so Adam decided to have a look at my fuses to see if it was as simple as that (I think the compressor is goosed because that's the sort of luck I have) and managed to pull one for my airbags.. Hello little orange symbol on my dash! He contacted a guy with a cable to fit mines because he has a mk4 and it's a different cable, but anyway long story short: my light was soon back out and while I was there I bagged myself a generic remap for the cost of a bottle of irn-bru. The guy has a lovely mk6r he's tuned by himself to 360bhp.. Had a passenger run in that and I was impressed. Mines is definitely faster too now, I'm just sad I have no idea on power output.
Two days into giving my car death because it feels so beautifully fast and I have a dead coil :( Purchased R8 coils to replace mines because why not... Fitting them when I get home and I'm excited - I haven't been able to drive the car since Sunday!
Oh and I forgot, someone hit her while parked in a quiet car park three Sundays ago.. Marked the passenger side headlight, the wing and scuffed the bumper.. There is a special place in hell reserved for people that don't leave notes when they damage somebody elses car :sad1:

Also, I nearly murdered an 8 year old.. Fell off her bike and the front tyre hit the door of my car. Fortunately it's only dirty or I'd have gone absolutely tits.. She's constantly falling off it and riding around the cars on a little side street or riding into oncoming traffic.. She doesn't even live next to me, where is her mother?! as a side note she was okay, but I didn't really care

Sure is! Started life as quite a small stone chip but now it's not so much :sad1: I'm going to try and save up for a full spray and some rust treatment too, the boots pretty bad after my bump in February :ashamed:
Are you still looking for some Helio's?
Unfortunately I can't afford wheels! Insurance was due on the 2nd of this month
Glad you've said that as I've decided to keep'em
Well let me know next time you fancy a change again because they're definitely the wheels I want :innocent:

Okay
Had a look around my car and I could honestly cry... It's in absolutely shocking condition.
Front splitter has two holes in it, one on either side at the lowest point.. Front bumper is damaged from someone hitting it in a car park, drivers side front wing is rusting due to scrubbing and the passenger side is dented from the car park bump.. Scratch on one headlight from the same bump and also a massive scratch on my bonnet when my boyfriend forgot my bonnet was open and jacked the car up into the garage door lock.. Scratch on the nsr door from the little girl falling into it with her bike (didn't realise it was scratched, thought it was dirt), rust just below this scratch and just above the skirt.. Lacquer peel on the roof above the windscreen also.. The boot is now rusting too :( The rear is a riot from when I bumped it in February - both the bumper and diffuser are scratched and dented as well as the o/s/r inner light being cracked. Oh and all four wheels are kerbed/have been hit with a sledgehammer.
I don't even know where to begin.. I don't really have many options when I can't afford a full respray do I? None of the rust will be under warranty because the car has actually previously had a full spray.. I think it was a bad job though and that explains the lacquer peel.
-
Touch up and address the rust best you can to slow it down or put it on hold, and vinyl wrap the car?

Rich :signLOL:
Morgen I feel for you, it's pretty sh1t but its not the end of the world. If you cant afford/save for a full respray then perhaps focus on just fixing the bits you dont like most, one at a time over time? Is your boyfriend going to contribute to the scratch?
You've just had real bad luck, with other people especially, perhaps keep away from people!

Did you buy a GTI exhaust exit for a R32 style bumper? If so where did you buy it from?
Thanks

I did indeed :) Just last weekend though, so I have a bit of an update for this! Purchased it from a place called ecotune for £500, including fitting! But they do have them on ebay, just search for milltek r32 style gti or something similar.
-
Okay so finally, a little update! Yay, I like updates.
The ignition festival had its debut at the weekend and my work gave me premium tickets for free because they know my life revolves around everything car-related! How sweet is that? So anyway, I went to ignition and ended up impulse purchasing an R32 style catback Miltek exhaust to go with the R32 bumper I bought back in February! Which in turn also helps clean the car up just a little bit. Ordered it on Friday night and it arrived with the company on Tuesday so I stripped as much as I could off the car to minimise labour costs
I love pictures, so here are some pictures!
Before doing anything:

Jacked up, wheels and lights off! Took every single bolt out except one to remove the bumper... It was goosed :( I had to pay labour in the end, I was going to drive it down with no rear bumper haha!

And yes, I do realise there's supposed to be a diffuser there haha! Mines is currently on its way to me via courier so should be fitted by the weekend.. I might even give her a wash and get set on trying to treat the rust a little bit.. I've spent my pennies now so unfortunately paint will be further away, but the bumper is a start to freshening her up and she looks lovely! I sort of dig the no diffuser look, it's kinda racecar
-
Comment on Instagram,looking good
As for the rust, get a touch up pen for the rust
-
Looking good. That's a great mod ...as for the rust. Remove the surface rust and treat it with some rust inhibitor...a lick of paint and your done..
-
I'm off work for a week now so I think I'll try do something about the rust while I have the time to! I need to pay Halfords a visit anyway because I have two reg bulbs missing and a dipped beam bulb gone
-
Getting stuck in, good work!
-
I still haven't sorted my brakes, or my rust.. And the diffuser I had ordered was damaged in transit so I had to source another... Came across a gloss black one nearby me for sale so picked it up for £75 and that's now fitted, at least!
Next up is brakes... I 100% NEED to sort brake lines out! I also have a dead ABS sensor on the nsf so that's second on my list for now.

Haha thank you!
You're 100% correct, I have no luck at all. I was heading to Shell from my work on Tuesday night with 20 miles remaining of fuel left (Shell was only 3 miles away) and she cut out at a busy junction in the middle of rush-hour... I'm not sure that's right somehow!! I assume something's broken but for now I'll just fill her every time she hits a 1/4 tank
Milestone hit.. 90k miles. I told myself I'd sell her when she hit 100k but I like her too much and the idea of just one more years use before changing car upsets me so she'll be here to stay until at least 2018  Might machine polish her when I have my next completely clear weekend, the rear end looks lovely and the rest of the car seriously lets its butt down
-
Okay...
So, eventually managed to get my front brakes on! I need to remember to order a clip however as one was broken :surprised: They look lovely and are a massive improvement on the old gti brakes.. Got my brake lines from HEL in the end and they're lovely, too!
However, the horrendous judder still occurs so that rules out warped discs, a stuck caliper or anything brake related... I'm a little gutted.
Thouuuugh.. My boyfriend drove mines about while I went for a sunbed and when I was back in the car he questioned if it could be the rear brakes. This has never been suggested so I was a little dubious but he pulled the handbrake up while driving at a slow speed and the issue was ridiculously obvious! My rear brakes are ruined
Next step: pads and discs on the rear. I'm tempted to upgrade to the R32 set up again for the rear but it'll end up expensive as I'm quite the fan of powdercoating.. Grrrr
-
the r32 rears are a good up grade and do pop up cheap from time to time
-
Just read through all 19 pages! Sorry about all the bad luck you've had but the car has definitely come a long way, loving the R32 rear bumper & exhaust.
-

Unfortunately I've run out of cash for this month and with Christmas looming I'll be buying my boyfriend something quite pricey for his own car (he wants brakes or a bumper.. or R32 side skirts.. but I want to get him a mk6/7 steering wheel, oh the choices) so my brake plans are on the back burner... For now I'll buy new discs and pads with the intentions of a rear upgrade in the future :innocent: Probably be Summer 2017 or something with how slow I am to do things!

Aw, thank you! Sometimes I take a wee step back and look at her, then I'm filled with sadness and regret because the bodywork is ruined haha! Oops. But thank you anyway

Okay so here are some photos, I've finally got round to logging in on my phone!
calipers and lines before fitting: (how pretty are the lines!)

HEL still making the lines wrong FFS! The banjo should be angled to hug the caliper more. We supply HEL lines for those calipers but to our own specs and length.

I bought HEL lines from JDL Brakes many years ago for R32 calipers for my GT Sport and I received the angled banjo version. The issue I had was the screw included didn't fit the caliper but my mechanic sourced the correct one and got it all fitted.
Bought rears for my Ed. 30 and they also had to be adjusted to fit correctly.
Can't see why after all these years there are still being made kits that don't fit directly...
-
I never had an issue with the brake lines on mines  They fit with no issues; so I see no issue.
Bought new rear discs & pads a few weeks back and they were fitted yesterday. We only noticed that they'd supplied me with mk4 pads when it came to fitting them, so another trip to Euros! Then on doing the drivers side it was evident the bearing needed replaced too: another trip to Euros :indifferent:
Went over to Edinburgh today with three of my friends and we took my car.. There appears to be a slight vibration still but it's greatly reduced! I'm going to take it a good drive on my own and actually try to decide if there's much difference at all.. If there's not I'm at a total loss as to what's broken :fighting:
-
Okay, so...
It's been two and a bit months since I last updated this so I've had multiple issues with the car since and I'll probably miss a few!
Since approximately November I've had the TPMS and ABS warning lights popping up on my dash so we VAGcom'd it and it appeared to be a dodgy sensor on the osf. Sensors are £50 so I put it on the back burner until after Christmas (end of January) because as per usual I'm skint. It was irritating the life out of me however because my traction control would kick in around roundabouts or corners and I'd be left with somebody sitting right up my chuff. Woops, sorry! Had to remember to turn my TC off everytime I was in the car. Long story short, bought a sensor, fitted it in February and it was still broken.. Turns out the wire had been caught in the wheel or something and needed a lot of soldering to fix it. Should buy loom at some point to rectify this totally but the light is now off and that's one bit fixed!
Had to drive to my Dads on Christmas day to say hello, collect my presents etc etc.. He gave me £200 which was nice but on the drive back home my suspension decided to give up life completely and the rear end was totally dangerous! Shocks were kaput. On boxing day I grudgingly spent that £200 on new suspension.. Fk's. I also however forgot that my old coilovers included top mounts and I needed to buy those too.. Front's had to wait. New rears were fitted on new year's day and it was so good to drive something without thinking I was going to die.
Was pulled over late November for my number plate too, but the police officer was quite nice about it and told me he would send the fine to the fiscal to see if they would drop it. Of course, they didn't so I had to pay £100 because I prefer how it looks. I also haven't put it back on yet because I'm an idiot. Should probably get around to it.
New front suspension and top mounts were fitted in February too, same time as the osf sensor.. Car drives so much better with the new stuff on, so I can forgive that they're FK's! No more knocking top mounts yay.
Two days ago I turned her on to drive home and it was running on 3 cylinders and seriously unhappy.. Could have cried as all it has done recently is break. Left it at my work and got a lift home and decided to deal with the issue the next day. Plugs and coils are both new so I was dreading the next things to check. Turns out the dipstick had twisted ever so slightly and wasn't tight... That's it. HAAAAHAHAHA
Anyway that's about it for anything car wise but it's only the 3rd month of the year so I'm sure there's loads more to break, fix then break again! Can't wait. Although, my insurance company are trying to double my premium and add some so who knows how much longer Roo will be in my possession... If I can't sort insurance I've got two months left with her before she'll be up for sale at a stupidly cheap price. Nothing good ever happens to me :ashamed:

Keep smiling the joys of owning a VW x

You using all the insurance companies that are advertised through the forums? Adrian Flux, Greenlight, Sky Insurance and HIC are all specialists in our kind of insurance needs so give them all a shout, worth a morning on the phone with them.
You could always put out a charity plea for some people to donate various parts to help your car get fixed, I've got stock parts from my 6R that are just sat around so if you ever need something, give a shout out and see, you may end up being able to repair/replace stuff at a fraction of the cost of new stuff.

I'm going to start getting quotes at the start of April as my insurance is due May 1st... I just had to check rough costs early to ensure I can afford to live this year :( I'll worry come April if I can't get it down to about £800, because that's top end of budget! Current quotes are coming back at £1400 and I only pay £613 currently. Greenlight will be the first I try as I've had a bad experience with Flux.
I'd never ask people for cheap parts to be honest! I can't be bothered with the comments I'd get because I'm a female asking for free/greatly reduced stuff and that's just frowned upon. I tend to just struggle on through by myself haha. I've asked for a wage rise in work because right now it's going to be the only thing enabling me to keep my car. 2017 has not been fun so far! :ashamed:
Thank you for the offer though, that's very kind of you

Insured with HIC for £870 including protected NCB and all mods declared :pomppomp:
Oh and I broke a rear spring, they're only 3 months old... Oops. However, NOTHING else has broken!! I just need front pads which I can live with :happy2:
-
Okay, to update anything since March, here we go!
I posted in April that I needed front pads - I don't. It appears the sensors broken but that's a job for another day.. The orange flashing warning light is annoying but I have a severe lack of motivation for the car at present so it can wait.
Oh and the rear spring that I broke looked like this:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fw651%2Fmorgennx%2F0cff34b3-2950-42a9-96dc-517dd86a5a41_zpsagko5rmr.jpg&hash=b7dd51eaf24df6f814480d565066ac3b20ce39a7)

Bought an RCD510 to go with my mk6 climatronic panel. I've read that it'll probably drain my battery though so I've not bothered fitting it. It can stay in a box for the foreseeable.

The boyfriend managed to drive my car into a kerb at his house.. My sideskirt is a mess. However he has offered to repair this AND get the rest of my car painted for my birthday (was the 24th May but I guess he's got priorities haha) so I can't be too annoyed about it I guess.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fw651%2Fmorgennx%2FSill_zpsrrgv1ce5.jpg&hash=bb075fb8b1830a738e6197a6907f8fb4c87efb4d)
The car also appears to be letting water into the drivers footwell; I've read that the bonnet pull seal or whatever it was can perish and that might be the issue. Need to investigate this one ASAP

Got a photo when we were back in Glasgow though... MK2-MK5 golfs! Our friend had his mk6 but had to get home quickly so missed out unfortunately. We also know people with a mk1 gti and a mk7 gte. Could be a cracker of a photo!

I'll update rest soon, just checking the photo link works because tinypic has blocked my works IP
-
:happy2: to the last picture, its only right to take another picture and include the Mk1, 6 and 7

Hiya
I've taken a good while to reply to this, apologies.
I contacted the company I bought the springs through and complained that they shouldn't bend like that. The company contacted FK and got a new set of rears under warranty :innocent:

I've been trying to update this with photos since last November but every time I write a huge update and then it pops up saying "unable to send date"
GOD GIVE ME STRENGTH that's SO irritating

Stuff happened, bla bla bla.. Car looked like this:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1334.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fw651%2Fmorgennx%2F21147853_504909596526813_8690550359891902464_n_zpsumuuyab1.jpg&hash=58f1bc21f793d01c4f24b541a23f23e4f72a1dcd) (http://s1334.photobucket.com/user/morgennx/media/21147853_504909596526813_8690550359891902464_n_zpsumuuyab1.jpg.html)
Then I broke it and bought this:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1334.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fw651%2Fmorgennx%2F20180529_134720_zpstomudfgg.jpg&hash=ac4f7298203439f3a0a79ebdab58a8849f32d04c) (http://s1334.photobucket.com/user/morgennx/media/20180529_134720_zpstomudfgg.jpg.html)
Will update fully later on my own laptop as this hasn't worked on a works computer since last year, joys.

     :sad:you broke it!!!!

     :sad:you broke it!!!!
By broke I don't mean for parts! It's just being stored right now until I can get my finger out!
-
I'll post an update without pictures, because for some reason it crashes every time I try to upload with them! This will have to do for now... I'm a simple soul and cannot stand build threads without pretty pictures but beggars cannot be choosers.
August last year I finally fitted my absolute bargain of an RCD510 DAB (90 inc delivery!) and the climatronic unit that my boyfriend had bought me for Christmas 2016.. Looks so much better. I never bothered to buy a new aerial etc because the new unit is DAB so I've just left it disconnected and it's still like that today... Couldn't be bothered taking the headlining out just to listen to Grimmy on a weekday morning.
Mid August we drove to the BTCC in my car and had a bit of a play with a brand new S3 (was neck on neck, which is nice as my car was mapped with a laptop at the side of the road) on a private road, duh. Fun was over when my R32 diffuser decided it would rather take a nap on the grass verge to the side of the road. Enjoyed the BTCC and managed to pick it back up 8 hours later when we were heading home. Adam prepped and painted this using Halfords finest materials and it looks wonderful in gloss black!
Round about the same time we split the new wheels, then polished them up again using halfords finest materials. Fitted the tyres, then fitted the wheels. The fronts DID NOT fit at all... Had to space the fronts 25mm to clear my calipers. Juicy.
Fast forward to October - I hit a small pothole and bent a front wheel. Think the man in the wheel repair shop fancied me because he repaired it for free.
Again, fast forward to November... An ambulance was behind me and the car beside me wouldn't move so I had to mount a kerb, pulling my front bumper off in the process. The driver in my work took the car down to a bodyshop and they collected me later on to pick it up when it was fixed... Free. Lucky me.
November again, broke both front wheels.. Was running a space saver and 1 pescara.. Then my front badge came off in the clyde tunnel and my leak still hasn't been fixed.. I think it was this point I got fed up with the car.
Started looking for a runaround in early December and picked up my diesel VW Beetle in January.. £550. Fitted a turbo and I now have a super reliable daily!
March the cars were swapped over and I insured the beetle, golf was put to bed then.
May - got two front wings and a bonnet, then purchased a gloss black front badge as well as a new oil filter for when I can be bothered fixing the thing.
June - Removed the battery because it'll be dud now anyway.
That's it.. Hopefully progress will be made before August-ish but maybe not knowing me
-
So this is the state this car has gotten into after being left sat since March... Oops. Apologies for writing 3 comments in a row, I'm doing this off my phone so I can no longer update it how I used to with a caption above each photo
so here's the little progress I made on the golf 2 weeks back, fed up of mould! Thats really sad to see, how did it get that bad you got warn door rubbers or something.

Make sure to wear a respirator when working with mould  Such a shame though, how'd it happen?
-
Fingers crossed you can get it sorted. Seems a shame to just let it sit there.

There was a leak coming from somewhere that took us ages to find - we eventually found it to be the sunroof drains. So that was sorted but the car has obviously been so damp it's now a breeding ground for mould :ashamed:
I've not used a respirator so far, I'm obviously an idiot haha. I'll try not breathe it in from now on.

It looks like it may be sat there for another good while... Perhaps until next year :sad1:

Just a quick post to mention that shes now back on the road! Came back to life in February and I've managed 700 miles or so now with no issue! Dropping the car off tomorrow for a full respray so watch this space 😍
For MOT she had new pads on the rear, new OSR caliper, front discs and pads as well as new bonnet hinges.
Service was also done last weekend, first time I've ever done it myself!
-
Yay.
It’s very satisfying servicing your own car.
-
Really good to hear life has been regenerated within her.

So an update then! A full respray courtesy of RM Bodywork in East Kilbride, Glasgow.
Also, two new front wings (didn't know they were cheap chinese sh*te as they came off another mk5 so will need to buy genuine ones) and a new bonnet as well as repairs to both rear quarters and the passenger side sill. Rear bumper re-aligned and splitter fibreglass repaired as I'll probably just put another hole in it...

This is the start of the boot build... Cable running time for the audio. I've decided on a 12" sub but the one I bought years ago isn't going to be good enough so Adam has said I can run his until he needs it! So we're basing my boot build off of his amp & sub. My birthday is on the 24th of May so my Mum will be buying my front speakers too so it's all go!

So tomorrow or Saturday we'll need to do another B&Q trip for more wood. The sub box has still to be made up and I'll need a sheet of MDF to complete it. I have a few little bits & bobs to order up so I can imagine progress will slow down now! Adam has other things to do as well but hopefully the car will be nearly ready by the time I go back to work!

Haha fair! We had only put it there though to give us room to put the trolley with the wood on it without being too close to somebody elses car! :P

However.... I was made redundant this week so there'll be likely no updates with the car until I know what's happening financially. I'll struggle to keep my Mini on the road at this rate never mind mess about with the Golf, so for now it can sit pretty. At least it's used to sitting for long lengths of time :sad1:
-
Okay so there's a lot to catch up on... First things first - I still own the golf :congrats:
After being made redundant I had to trade in my beloved daily driver (my Mini Cooper F56 that I was head over heels in love with) and purchase a van. What else could I buy other than a Volkswagen though, right? I had decided to become self employed and become a dog walker! Can't do that in a mini or an edition 30...

So ANYWAY, we're now at present day! Not much has happened with my edition 30 however I do intend to get her back on the road before the end of June. She doesn't actually need anything mechanically but it takes a lot for me to action even the smallest of things when it comes to this car...
A family members mk5 golf failed its MOT and she reached out to me keen to sell it own. She had owned this car since 2009 and I'd expressed interest in it back in 2015 as I of course have an obsession with grey mk5 golfs. So, I bought it.
The new toy is a 2005 DSG mk5 golf GTi in steel grey of course... 75k miles and full service history from a VW specialist garage. She came to me as an MOT fail needing an exhaust rear section (silencer has separated at the side), two rear calipers and a brake light bulb for the sum of £650. This also included a 7/8 full tank of fuel and a genuine VW dog guard. She's got factory fitted sensors, a smokers pack and leathers so the options box isn't heavily ticked. She also came to me with the RUSTIEST exterior bodywork I've actually ever seen on a mk5, however sills are fine and it appears to only affect replaceable panels :jumpmove:
It looks like it hasn't been washed in about 5 years too and that's no exaggeration!

Checked it on vagcom and the only codes that came up were to do with the exhaust leak so nothing sinister found there!
So, Adam and I got to work. We ordered a seal kit for the calipers hoping we could get away with a £12 repair on these. We had luck on our side and it did work! Both calipers now working. Brake lines also replaced as one snapped when removing the caliper, of course.

Today she also had an oil & filter change as well as fuel filter, plugs and a pollen filter. We had an air filter ordered too but they've sent the wrong one sooooo that's not getting done.
Next up - drivers front window regulator needing done, the exhaust getting sorted and sort out the bulbs :happy2:
