Title: Testing the alarm
Post by: GTi-Andy on October 27, 2014, 08:05:03 pm
Hi guys

Is there a procedure to test the alarm?

Ive set the alarm with the key fob, waited until the red led flashes in the door card, then manually unlock the door with the key thinking that would set off the alarm, but nothing - no sound or flashing hazards

Is there another way of testing it?

Did you wait about 20 seconds before waving your arms to set off the interior sensor?

Do you have an interior sensor on the roof lining, or any buttons in the drivers side pillar behind the seat?

Is your car an import? They usually don't have an alarm.

Sirens often fail, but no flashing indicators means it is not activating.
If you have VCDS you can see if it is activated and has issues.

I've not sat inside and tried the ultra sonics, I'll try that next.

What do the buttons look like on the B pillar? And where abouts on the B pillar are they?

Don't think it's an import, I'm only the second owner and I believe the previous guy got it from VW in Wembley.

After unlocking with the keyblade, try set off your sensor by moving about 10-20 seconds afetr getting in. The sensor looks like ebay item 231243796876

Must admit I don't remember seeing that sensor in the car but I'll have a look again in the morning.

Well I've had another look this morning and I definitely don't have these sensors! So it's looks like I don't have an alarm, but am I right in guessing that I still have an immobiliser?

I've also looked into the service book and it would appear that I do in fact have an import! It looks like the car has made it way to the UK via Dubai

Should this be a concern??

You'll have an immobiliser yes, try searching bud as this topic has been covered many times with good info on imported cars
