Hi All,
Can any RNS510 receive DAB radio just by using a DAB aeriel? Or does the RNS unit need to be a specific version?
-
IIRC you need to have a version P or later, im sure someone will shout up if im wrong
-
I have a P version but it's not a DAB version. You'd need to get one with DAB capability that appeared since the P version with firmware 5238.

You can add DAB+ to a DAB unit retroffiting a module. Kufatec sells them: http://www.kufatec.de/shop/en/Retrofit-kit-DAB-/-DAB-antenna-module3?action_ms=1.
But if you want DAB you need to get a RNS-510 with an integrated DAB module and a black fakra connector in the back (DAB aerial connector).

Thats quite interesting. just seen the cost of some of the DAB RNS units :scared:
I was thinking of buying something like this:
http://www.halfords.com/sat-nav-audio/car-audio/dab-radios-car-stereos/sonichi-s100-digital-radio-adaptor
run it to the ciggy lighter and run it into the RNS via Aux input. I think that may be a better option.
Reason I originally asked, is because in the secret menu of my old C unit, i saw DAB somewhere, so I assumed the units were ready for DAB.

That's one way of having DAB radio reception. People who have DAB integrated say external systems aren't close in quality, unfortunately. But it's a much cheaper alternative.
