Hello chaps
I've been offered a 57 plate GTI for a good price. However, it has 125,000 on it. So using my Sherlock Holmes powers of deduction, I reckon it's motorway mles.
Any thoughts? Walk away? Or should I go for it & have a damn good service done on it? Any pitfalls with a high miler?
Over to you!
Cheers
Adam

I have just bought an 08 plate on 167000 miles! :signLOL:
Condition is key to be honest, what options does it have, any service history, number of owners and so on.
If it has been looked after these cars will run for ever!

service history? cambelt done?
Have you done the usual vechicle checks with the likes of HPi etc?
Also check out the DVLA MOT history site

MY old GTI had 120 on the clock and it drove just like new! The new owner now has remapped it by R tech and added a custom turbo back exhaust and it still runs sweet!
As long as its got a great history, drives well. no leaks, HPI Clear and as @GTi-Andy (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10725) has mentioned, do a DLVA MOT history check. Its free and will show you what if any MOT have failed and what were they failed on.

As above provided the belt etc have been done you'll be fine. It's probably mostly motorway miles anyway which is easier on the car
-
Also if it's DSG then it should have had three services by now.

Bought mine with 93k & it drives like new, I think it could be a keeper tbh. Plenty of vwsh & all the common issues replaced for peace of mind. Buy on condition not mileage.

I brought my GTI with 86K on it, the most important part for me was condition, service history, and owners, anything over 3 owners and I just do not bother.

Personal preference obviously but I would rather 5 enthusiast owners than one sh*t owner.

True, if you know the history of the car and owner, but if your buying from the internet 3 seem's to be a safe bet.

Looks a decent one. Sat nav, heated seats, heated mirrors etc. HPi clear, 2 owners, full VW history, so I'm going to bob up tonight to look at it.

How did the viewing go? If it's cheap then it will be worth a punt. Don't forget to do the cam follower if it hasn't already been done. Also the pcv (do a search on both) if it needs it & for peace of mind. I have to echo the sentiments above....low owners & comprehensive history is key. Good luck mate.

I just bought my gti 2 months ago with 93,000 miles on it. Drives amazing was well looked after! I would say it drives better than my old car & that was an 09 plate polo, now sitting with a 9 year old car, best move ive made :happy2:

On nearly 130k here and absolutely no problems. I would be put off if there's a lack of service history or if there wasn't the correct number of DSG services.

High mileage ok as others have said , depends on how long and how much mileage it will have when you come to sell it . Very few buyers are looking for cars with over 120k on them so you will struggle to sell . But then people will say who worrys about that when they buy a car ?
