I have been doing some research on stage 1 remaps and would like to go with Revo again after some great results when I had my 1.8T Golf. But on the Mk5 it seem you can lose the remap if you disconnect the battery, is Revo the only remap that suffers fro this problem?

Yes, but if you also get the Revo SPS, you can restore you settings. It doesn't lose the map as such, just the settings you tweak once the map is loaded. That Revo SPS is an amazing bit of kit, allows you to have several different engine maps, along with a security map which prevents the engine starting even with the key!
