Title: Identifying a genuine edition 30
Post by: SiofChester on November 14, 2014, 05:38:32 pm
off to view an edition 30 tomorrow, looks to have the right seats / rear lights / body kit but those are very easy to swap. Which got me wondering how I can identify a genuine ed 30, is there something I can use from the vin or something else? I guess I can use the dv location but that's not the best way I think...

Run a number plate check. It does work and is specific inc Limited Edition cars.

Log book?

Engine should be BYD code (left hand side of engine - sticker on the side)

seats
gear knob and handbrake have red stiching
ed30 sill plates
splitter, rear bumper
wheels

if its missing any of these i would defo do more research. have a look at the members rides and look at the ed30 and it will give you some ideas of spec

You can also do a online check via dvla using just the vehicle reg which will confirm the year, make and model

Look at the Edition 30 engine bays on here and you'll see there's a pipe from the air intake feed (at the back of the engine) which runs to the front to the DV valve. This is not present on standard GTI engines (due to the different turbos used and various parts in different locations).

^^^^ That's a common upgrade for many though on a basic GTI, relocating the recirc pipe to DV.

There is a red 3dr ed30 on trader at the minute that has seats out of a Leon FR, yet guy says its genuine when I asked, was up for just shy of £10k i think.  :signLOL:

Changing the seats doesn't change the fact that its a genuine a car does it ?
