Title: Brandywine MK5
Post by: MR02LOW on November 16, 2009, 12:10:33 pm
Hey guys,
I have now purchased a Mk 5 GTI and here it is at the moment, (will get better pics soon). I must say it's great to drive, comfy and feels excellent on the road, cant wait to drive it some more to be honest, but i'll have to wait a while

The previous owner changed a few bits and bobs, which is always a good start, and it now means i will now have a few bits for sale lol... ): so if any one is interested in the bits in red give me a shout, there will be more to come.....

R32 rear lights
Eibach springs - 40mm
BBS CH Replicas, have just had new tyres fitted
Added cruise control
VW OEM Double din Sat nav, i pod lead and 6 disc changer.
APR Remap so now has 255bhp - 301lbft

I'll keep you all updated when things start to move on, the car is currently with plush-automotive so watch this space  :happy2:

It rode fine for the 3 hours i drove the car before dropping it off with luke ha ha. These are only 3 months old fitted by awesome gti and will now be for sale.

Well here's a few quick snaps i just grabbed of the car the ride is excellent and you wouldn't know you were riding on air at all. Im Proper in love with this build and car again now :happy2: :happy2:

wow I'm liking the look of this car, looks great on air  :happy2:

does it handle noticably different?

stealth install  of the tank looks great too, much better than seeing a wacking great tank in the back of the car

keep on modding

Thanks mate im loving the look of it to, it can still go slightly lower, just need to sort my tyres out 225 are not doing me any favours lol then i can lay frame.

TBH, I haven't driven it long enough to be able to tell if its different on a journey, but for the time i did drive it, i felt the same, still a good ride, and still very very comfortable.

with the boot I wanted to retain useability with the car (for now ), which is why luke did a false floor, when i go to show next year i still need to be able to cart all my wifes bags with us lol  :happy2:

i should have a few more updates just after crimbo, see what the fat lad brings me  :innocent:

I'll put some more pics up today,

started cleaning last friday and after 2 full days last weekend and a couple of hrs each night after work i finished yesterday, im pleased with the result its not JPC standard but im happy

I even had a go at machine polishing (which was way scary) not cutting just using meguirs scrath stuff from fleabay, seems to have come out pretty well...

The previos owner must felt the need to wash it with a sponge and a bucket of sand, oh and paint the exterior of his house whilst the car was outside lol...

Craig you've been a bloody busy boy along with Luke!

I think you've got quite a niche look there, so I can only say thumbs up and well done  :drinking: The rims perhaps aren't my usual taste but you've put real effort into the stance so it suits them to a tee

That last shot looks like they're at some mega cambered' angle   :driver:

cheers dude glad you like them alot of work getting them like that right down to the fact we ordered a left hand drive drivers door card to make the centers symetrical as well.

I'm just in the process of finnaly doing mine now, the amount of work that goes into them behind the panel is unreal lol.

thanks for the comments guys...i love the car sooo much better on the hellios, there is a few changes to my stance i neet to do to get it to sit a little better but thats for next year.

its definatly come a long way since UD greeners, that was the first time i had ever really driven the car and seen the mods etc, so it was nice to get it home and start tinkering lol. Plenty more to come i think

As for the front grill, the badge and the horizontal lines will be going matt black to refelct the same as my rear badge.. i will put pics up of the mods this afternoon hopefully once i have had a chance to clean again.

lol @ N8kow, me love you long time hellios brother!!!

I re-read this thread from start to finish again. Love the mods and the effort gone into it.

The Rousch alloys - would they have fit had you not slammed the car? Would love to see a pic of a MK5 with them on. The Helios don't look as good as the rims before them IMO. What were they?

Was the paintwork just plain black (and not the diamond pearl stuff)? Looks beautifully slick. What did you use?

Still torn on the front grilles. Most people go for the GTI honeycomb grilles and you went the other way. Think it's slowly growing on me though.

EDIT: I just spotted the rim in the boot! No idea how I missed that!  :chicken:

Hi Mr Wolf, the rousch alloys would have looked excellet mate, i got the rears to fit 10" but the fronts at 10" wide were having none of it!! glad they are gone now and i have moved onto the hellios, the rims before were Audi A8 Monoblocks, i liked them but not enough to keep them! we'll see how long these last?  :innocent:

The paint is the "black magic" colour original just cleaned, it had been sitting for 5 weeks at Lukes so it was pretty dirty, just a quick bath and Chemical Guys CG Detailer and bobs your uncle.

I still like my grills, if i fancy a change i can always put the old ones back on

Craig you know I love your car, its the interior man, its the sickest by far, you should get some R32 buckets, but then you probably would have done that already

thanks nath, i thought about them and RS4 seats but then it was at lot of money for not a lot of gain IMO, i like my deatiled GTi seats tbh.. :happy2:

thanks, like i said before i like the grills it's just a little change but there isn't that much to do to a GTi exterior wise without going a bit OTT. i dont want to alter too much.

i will get pics sorted as soon as it stops raining it hasn't stopped up here for a week  :sad1:

thanks for the reply Craig, i will let you know once i've made a decision if i want to buy your Compos, i need to buy a few other bits 1st then do the wheels  :happy2:

Also just wondering which struts you have with your AirRide?

I'm looking to have AirRide next year so i wanted some shortbase struts to go with the bags, So i was thinking of getting some FK Silverline Coilovers this year and have have bags fitted to them struts next year. Reason i say FK Silverlines is that i've been told they are one of shortest shocks out there which enables to get a lower drop with bags.

Hi mate,

my air kit is the : Air Lift 'Super slam' kit, digital controller for the inside etc.. full control over each corner.

The struts on the front are the air lift ones and the rears are Eibach pro street

have you decided which air ride kit your going to have??? speak to Luke @ Plush-automotive, his company imports airlift and all products are in stock,
the kits @ plush are by far the best air ride kit & his installation is amazing, he can tailor the kit to any rerquiremaent you have to.

Hope this helps  :happy2:

Thank for info mate  :happy2:

Were the Eibach Pro Street struts on the rear something you had before you went for Air? or did you buy them seperately just for the Air setup.

I will definately be going to Luke for the AirLift kit, he's not far from me and the without a doubt the best feedback i've seen and heard of Plush, plus i spoke to him at Westside and i know hes the man to go too
I have the money at the moment to have Air now, only thing stopping me is the bad weather we're going to get nearer Xmas, snow and grit etc, so thinking to hold out untill March.

Do you have pics of your Tank install? i'm not sure if i saw any in this thread, i'm on my phone so cant check as i'm writing this.

Cheers

Sunny

Finally got a black front badge (think that finishes the front nicely):
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fk148%2Fmidnightsti%2FP1000100.jpg&hash=6c8b09ce04e94901f1dba246b3d355e3856ed67f)

Decided it was time for a freshen up for the new year on the wheel front, the winter wasnt kind to my compomotives, and my camber wasn't kind to my tyres so here we have some fresh powdercoated wheels, wrapped in new Maxis 215/35/18 tyres, these are on the same wavelength as falken 452 so im happy + i get an excellent discount on them from my local tyre place Camskill.

Also fitted the boot pop kit today so just need it coded and should be sorted

Thats all for now bit more in a couple of weeks

so i thought its about time i bumped my thread, things have started to change steadily with the car, bits and bobs as and when.

so to start with i thought i should add a bit of performance so i fitted :
Forge twintake
Forge twintercooler
Forge DV spacer
S3 intercooler
Revision D DV
Exide battey - had to have a new battery as my old one died  :ashamed:
Milltek Non res TBE

(there will be pics to follow of some parts once i have cleaned the car, as a daily it gets dirty pretty quick )

Having a trip to PDT to meet Dave and get the following fitted:
HPFP Pump with KMD internals fitted
Revo stage 2+ with a bit of roller time to, i'll try and get a vid and i'll post up the graph if it dose'nt go bang  :rolleye:

also some new rims (im nearly as bad as Al)
and some body work but that is for the pics to do the talking

thats all for now folks

Looking forward to seeing the pics, are they the ones discussed?
What sort of figures are you expecting from the car? is it a case of body pretty much sorted so go for performance now? If so then that's how I am getting now too. :happy2:

lol @ your wheels mate, i know you'll end up with more for next year same as i will ha ha ha.....i have mine in the pipeline already  :rolleye: yh rims on now are as we talked about had them 8 weeks now.

body work is getting there mate, still needs a good detail but im happy, performance wise im hoping for around 280/280 they are what Dave@PDT said is achievable which is good for me im not going the K04 route as i want to keep it simple the mods i have now will be enough.

i still need to get a couple of bits done with the interior just a case of sorting a few bits as its a daily bus full show leather is a nightmare lol im constantly frightened of catching it and i caught the rear quater with Sofia baby seat  :ashamed:so Luke is going to sort that for me..

Immense this car hope i get the chance to see it next yr at shows? Gd work mate

thanks buddy, yuo will deffo get to see it at some point next year earlier rather than later i hope  :happy2:

your looks 900000000 time better now you have worked on it, looked tired last time i saw it but you work has made it a great car again  :happy2: love the wheels!! bentleys =

Right small update:

Had a trip over to PDT tuning to meet Dave and get the Revo stage 2+ and my HPFP fitted.

The mapping went great, it made 265.6HP and 290lbft which im very pleased with, the car drives awesome and acceleration is  :driver:

So a big thanks to Dave, hes very professional and a nice guy aswell.

All the other bits just keep adding to the overall quality. It is getting up their with your Scoooooby now.  :notworthy:

Did you spray your twintercooler yourself.  :happy2:

Thanks for you comments TC, yes mate, sprayed in the garage at home  :innocent: im in no way a sprayer and think i got more on his work top  :signLOL:  :ashamed:

Such a nice car. How did you get the bonnet to sit properly after having the notch filled, I thought the vw badge on the grill would stick up too far. Did you shave a bit off so it could close?

Right Guys, been lurking on here for ages as normal but no updates for over a year on the car......

US spec front bumper - votex splitter smoothed in, centre of lip painted in charcoal grey
Clear side markers

Air ride... This has stayed the same as before, but will also be going in favour of a new set up thats in my garage...watch this space

yh seen them buddy, i have looked at 100's of wheels for the car, the 3SDMs are a nice wheel, just not my cup of tea, tbh i'll stick with RSV wheels now, (not that i'll be getting another set anytime soon with a 6 month wait for manufacture from the states and the price....... )

Who did the interior build?
Title: Re: My MK5
Post by: MR02LOW on March 20, 2015, 08:15:32 am
The trim was done by Steve at Edge Automotive and the installation of everything was done by Phil at The Install Company who is IMHO by far the best air installer in the country, its ok getting a kit on etc..but its getting the car to sit perfectly, its not just about the drop with air its how its stanced and this guy is the best, his eye for detail and his skill is extrordinary...

He customised the XL perfomance struts to get the front of my car to sit perfectly and he sorted the rear as well as things were just out or 'sorts' so to speak with wheel and tyre fitment, what he can do to get a car to sit right is just unreal... as you can see...

Bromance  :signLOL:

Where the hell did you get them?

(Googles the Install Company. To my surprise I discover its in Leicester, tempted)
Title: Re: My MK5
Post by: MR02LOW on March 20, 2015, 09:15:00 am
i got the seats from a good frind of mine at Revolution in Gateshead, he had them in his RS3, i bugged him for months to sell me them, they are as rare a rocking Horse SH**

You wont be dissapointed in The Install Company mate, hes such a great guy to deal with and really is one of the best in the buisness at this game....no bull...

Post by: StuF on March 20, 2015, 07:53:07 pm
They aren't 12c seats, just a generic recaro shape that they commissioned. Any one including joe could by those, you won't mind a mckaren part number on them anywhere.

But otherwise a sweet interior!

They look exactly the same as these
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.blogcdn.com%2Fquebec.autoblog.com%2Fmedia%2F2013%2F03%2F46-2013-mclaren-mp4-12c-spider-fd.jpg&hash=3aac2d6318d0b7cc45c814033244e084d2266e8b)

Which are fitted to a 12c? So I think you are wrong :happy2:

Title: Re: My MK5
Post by: KieranED30 on March 20, 2015, 09:38:42 pm
Fair play, they must be out of an early 12c. Only they had the manual release. They weigh a lot don't they!!!!

One minute your saying "no 12c has manual seats" saying these arnt genuine then a second later your saying they do come in manual in the early one make your mind up  :fighting: :signLOL:

Sorry for the negative press on your thread. Perhaps,it was just disbelief that you had sourced such a rare set of seats. I only work on the production line there nothing fancy.
I have the upmost respect for the amount of work and effort you have put into this.
All the best for the rest of your plans.

The car was taken to Meguiars HQ yesterday, so the helpful lads could give it some magic in their booth, ready for the car to hit their stand this weekend at Early Edition.

I'm laid up at the moment and 300 miles away from the car so this was a fantastic opportunity to get the car cleaned ready for show.

Jaw dropingly nice.. Seen tonnes of pictures for a while now and this is the first time i've actually took time to read through your thread..

Brilliant work and I love the HOK paint. Got paintwork needing repairs on mine which will be happening soon but seeing this.. its pushing me over the edge of going full respray especially now i've seen yours but then I realised... I need the funds I have for a rainy day ha.

You've definitely gone all out on everything else which is beyond epic. Would love to see you pull something just as epic in the engine department next.
