Title: Pink xenon?
Post by: ed30sam123 on December 10, 2014, 04:37:09 pm
Hi all, one of my xenons has gone pink! Is this a sign it is on its way out? Just got the car back from having the gearbox done and they have had the battery disconnected could this have caused the xenon to do this? Also will this deffinately my be the bulb and not the ballast? It doesn't seem to flicker at all just a colour and brightness change.

Any information on this would be much let appreciated!

Problem solved now, here is a pic for anyone else who may come across this problem and want to confirm the solution (I had doubts as to whether it was the bulb or ballast after speaking to friends)

Thanks

Sam

Yes, if you do a search it comes up. It will no doubt fail soon.
Buy a pair of new D2S bulbs.

You can choose Osram Xenarc D2S for OEM brightness or Osram Xenarc Night Breaker Unlimited for OEM+. Prices are accordingly.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/XENARC-BREAKER-UNLIMITED-headlamp-66240XNB-HCB/dp/B00FQ8AVHS

Are these the correct bulbs? Was unsure on the HCB after the normal product code?

Yes, that's correct. Not sure if you can find them cheaper on ebay.

Yes, that's correct. I think you can find cheaper bulbs on ebay, though.

Cheaper osrams? I figured now it's broken I might aswell upgrade instead of replace! Aslong as those ones are correct I will probably go for those. Do you know what the HCB is about?

Thanks again

Sam

I tried to find a cheaper store on ebay but I couldn't. Searched for HCB and didn't find any good result. Maybe it just means "hard case box".

Yes. No problem mate. I've also read that those bulbs might not be that easy to fit... I hope you can fit them easily.

One of mines went pink last week, failed the next day.

I replaced them with Philips X-Treme vision

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2xGENUINE-PHILIPS-D2S-XENON-Bulb-85122-XV-XTREME-C1-BRAND-NEW-24h-DISPATCH-/281445702742?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4187789c56 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2xGENUINE-PHILIPS-D2S-XENON-Bulb-85122-XV-XTREME-C1-BRAND-NEW-24h-DISPATCH-/281445702742?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4187789c56)

They claim 50% better output than OEM, but the best thing about them IMO is they are 4800k rather than OEM's 4300k - the light output is much more effective on cats' eyes, signposts etc without being blue enough to affect output  :happy2:

Ugh I hope mine doesn't fail before the new ones come! I didn't really look into the Phillips ones, I ordered the osrams's. How were they to fit?

Thanks for the reply
Sam

It took me about 30-35 minutes to fit them, a bit fiddly when you have to hold the new bulb in place with one hand (as it falls back out the fitting otherwise) and slip the retaining ring over the bulb with another. If you have fat fingers it would maybe take longer/require more patience

I followed this guide on R32OC:

No probs  :happy2: just remember to stop and take a deep breath after the bulb falls out of the holder for the second time

I would definitely say replace the bulb and I always do them in pairs

Thanks for the replies, my bulbs came in the post and I fitted them following the thread on the R32 forum which was mentioned above. Took me about 15mins to do the first side as I did a dummy fitment run with the old bulb so I knew how to fit the new one and the other side took 10 mins. Not difficult at all.

The Osram bulbs are pretty good but they didn't blow me away as I expected them too but at least I don't have a pink one now!

Cheers

Sam
