Title: New clutch kit.
Post by: s3dubbin on December 11, 2014, 12:40:08 pm
I am thinking about bringing a new clutch kit over from the US but they don't seem to have the s3 8p. My question is can I order a mk6 golf R clutch kit? Not 100% sure on my gearbox code, maybe kdt. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers, Stevie.  :happy2:

I am sorry if this is irrelevant, but I am getting the mk5 gti helix clutch kit in from the US saving around £100. I think you can get your code from a local VW dealer parts section!  :fighting2: :driver:

Yeah the price difference is massive. Have you taken into account import tax?

Cheers, Stevie.  :drinking:

So the clutch gets made in the UK, shipped to the US, then shipped back to the UK.  Surely the shipping plus the import duty and vat would make it cost more?

I'm a little intrigued also as that's what I was thinking. I had a little look last night and the only 'Helix' products I could find in U.S were light clusters etc.

Maybe from the Helix side of things. I am going clutchmasters this time and to my door with everything included I am saving at least £250.

Yeah it's not me that's going helix it's ruh that is importing the helix. I am going to give the clutchmasters twin a go.

How much is the clutchmasters twin setup? The one that's ideal for 360 - 400 hp, daily & trackdays

Going to be the 850 for me bit worried about the 725. Mike I don't think it is possible to get a twin setup for 400bhp, the twin setup is for 500+. I think the fx400 single is around the £900 mark.

Any one on here mind summarising which clutch & flywheel combination is recommended for the various stages of tune ?

With supplier & price if possible ;-)

Something like:

Standard LUK clutch + LUK DMF   £150, £200      Stock tune, Stage 1 + Stage 2 GTI, Stage 1 Ed30 with linear mapping (sig. less mid range torque)
Helix organic+ LUK DMF               £350, £200     Stage 3 GTI, Stage 2 Ed30 (full fat torque) 380Nm
Helix + SMF                                £350, £350     Stage 2+ Ed30, 450Nm
Clutchmasters  FX400                   £900              Stage 2+ Ed30

I've just made up those numbers, so someone who knows for sure please amend as necessary.

I've got a felling that I'll need to attend to the clutch sooner rather than later, no slippage yet with a linear tune, but I'd like some gold top goodness.

Yeah drivability, junctions, roundabouts, traffic lights. I still use mine couple of days a week as a daily so thought I would go for the less aggressive. Is it a aluminium flywheel you use?

I don't wot shift just now no.

No i kept the steel it takes alot of revs to get going as itis and there where other reasons which i decided steel would be better

Have it setup trust me that clutch with wotshifting will feel like its gave the car another 70hp huge difference not dropping boost through gears with a bt setup

Right ok. Cheers. Just waiting on a reply on what discs to use.

Do you mean through a wot box? Mine does drop boost slightly through the gears, every little helps. My mate has just installed one to his b5 s4, so bloody loud!
