Just a quick one, I have a GT TDI with a GTI rear bumper and need to replaced the exhaust, local garage has advised me of three options. He saying I should go for three.....what you guys think?
1. Simply cut of old box and weld on a GTI back box
2. New back box and pipes (most expensive) and no need
3. He has advised, remove the back box completely and he will do me a straight through pipe - not expensive and said it will also give me slightly better sound

So to clear this up, you have a GT TDI? I think someone on here was digging about trying to find out if the GTI stock exhaust fits. I'd go for number 3 personally, until you can afford a nice stainless steel exhaust system.

Sorry, poor typing. You are correct. I have GT TDi exhaust with a GTi rear bumper - need to sort the pipes out.
GTI back box to a GT TDI is a simply swap and the cheapest - cut and clamp, job done.
I don't need a full s/s system, so I like the idea of 3. Only concerns I have is....
- Will the effect emissions/MOT with no back box etc?
- Will is sound really bad - being a diesel
-
Emissions shouldn't be affected, boxes only really affect sound. Putting a GTI back box on may be the better option as you just can't say what sort of sound a custom made rear pipe will make.
-
Do they test emissions on a tdi or just a smoke test ?

I have a custom stainless on mine from the cat back. Thinking of removing it soon and just putting a standard gti one on as I my be selling the car.

Do you have pic? Details? An price for the exhaust?
