Title: VWR 19" alloys
Post by: Racer88 on November 23, 2009, 02:36:54 pm
Hi

I just had a set of 19" VWR alloys (19 x 8.5 with ET 52mm) shipped over to Perth Australia and wondered what would be the best tyre fitment. I've got a 06 Pearl Black GTI which will be a touch lower than standard as I have the VWR sports springs fitted. I've had suggestions of either 225/35/19 or 235/35/19 but want to know if anybody out there has purchased these wheels and what tyres suit with out rubbing.

Hope someone out there can help!

Cheers,

Racer88

235/35/19 is closer to the 225/40/18 stock tyre size so I would say go for that.. There a little wider too so will help with traction etc..

I doubt very much you will rub with springs only and that high offset.. If you do just remove the front arch screw, very easy..

Welcome to the forum

....I respect them in roadworks environments but otherwise they are horrible nasty Big Brother devices  :fighting:

They wouldn't spend the money putting them up, Jay, unless they earned money.

yep, true...

to be honest, the average speed cameras are the ones that get the most respect from me to be honest. But its just strange how you never hear of anyone to be ticketed?

Jeremy Clarkson had the best idea with these. Sit on the hard shoulder for 5 minutes and then fly through them at whatever speed you like  :happy2:

Yeah, great - And then get pulled for stopping on the hard shoulder (if you even can) for no good reason.

its funny how we are conditioned away from the actual dangers why the cameras are there. People working on the road, with families and kids etc! clarkson is a goon sometimes!

he pissed me off on sunday night with the R8 and that stalk! lol

Lol, but they will do you for the speed you shoot through the single camera at.  My mate got done twice by these cameras so they certainly catch people

i always worry about them catching "one of my speed readings" you just know if you average 50mph but went thru one at 85, they'd do you! and quite rightly

Thanks for the advice...i think i'll go with the Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics in 235/35/19......the only drama is now getting a set. I've been quoted $2400 in Perth (about 1200 quid!). I'm going to try Tirerack in the US as I reckon I can get them shipped over for half the price.

Cheers,

Racer88
