Title: 4 new tyres..
Post by: Mario88 on February 04, 2015, 02:55:01 pm
hi everyone,

im in need of 4 tyres. ive been quoted 90 each corner (360 for the set) for Pirelli P zero's and thats the best ive found..

Is this a normal price? Pirelli's good? Its what i've got on at the moment and they are not bad, but if anyone knows of anything better for the money?

cheers

You'll generally find that the mass opinion on this forum is Goodyear Asymmetric or Michelin Pilot Sport. Both are a very good tyre, this the Goodyear has better fuel ratings according to the new standards but can't confirm for certain. Pirelli are good tyres too for the price, my girlfriend has P Zero's on all four corners of her GTI and they're very good for normal driving and a bit of spirited driving. And £90 a corner is a good price for those too.

I've got P zeros on my 18 inch Monza's, they are good but so are the Michelin Pilot Sport

£90 a tyre is a good price - where was that from and is it fitted or mail order?

If you 'enjoy' a drive on the road any one of the top tier (PS2, F1, Pirelli Pzero etc etc) will be good.
If you get on a track (or have high bhp) then Pilot Super Sports will be as good as you can get without having a track tyre.

They totally eclipse F1's on track, I know this for a fact.  :happy2:

Having said all that, PSS are much better on the road too!
Hope that helped clear that up!

Just fitted 19" Michelin super sports and I love them. So much more grip than the conti's I had previously.

Thanks for your help guys!

Ive noticed there are tyres out there which an XL variation. Can anyone shed any light on this? Differences etc? Are they for an XL car meaning no good for our mk5's?

Thanks again :notworthy:

XL stands for extra load. So the tyre is designed to be able to handle more weight without loosing much of it's performance. I would expect the sidewalls to be stiffer too so ride comfort might be slightly compromised. I would go for them given the option.

Also, without being cheeky.. if anyone has any online discount codes for tyres.. please share  :happy2:

I'm just looking for a set of 4 tyres for my Edition 30 too.  Black Circles are showing Pirelli P Zeros (in 225/40/18)  for £78.14 if that helps!

So I have a slight confession to make  :sad1:
I Brought 4 new tyres last week and paid £120 for all 4 (BRAND NEW) "Budgets of course".
Trust me... if I could afford some P Zero / PS etc. I would have brought some, but as I've just moved house it wasn't an option, I needed new tyres for MOT so they had to do, I know ill get ripped for this but beggars cant be choosers.
I must say what a bargain, they actually provide a lot of grip and even in the wet there pretty good.
don't get me wrong, I don't rinse my car round bends and that... I drive like a granny most the time and press on every now and then, I like to look after my baby.
The only bad thing about them... They are noisy as hell
just thought id let you all know

Thanks for the great replies.

He only had 2 pirelli's at £90 each in the end as he got them in special offer.

Went for those 2 and 2 nearly new pirellis on the back.. £300 all in. Car feels much better now! :)
