Title: RNs510 differences
Post by: andyp on February 20, 2015, 09:26:32 pm
Couldn't seem to find anything in regards to what the actual differences are with the rns510's, unless I've not been looking in the right area.

So only thing I know is that they changed to an led screen on a c version if I'm correct?   Cheers

So there's no difference between an h model and a p model?

Different firmware, i.e. H can be upgraded to P.

@golfmk5 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10123) So if purchased an h model, there would be no major differences between that and a p model?   Looking at price wise as there is a bit of difference in them.  The two models are purely reference to what I've seen.

Difference will be the software.

H will have older software than the P.

The software can be updated, however some units cannot update past a certain update.

if you can stretch, its best to get the latest unit you can.

Had a few of these now and the main hardware differences are:

Fluorescent to LED Screen
Sluggish to Faster processors
Sluggish to Faster software
HDD to SSD

Versions A to C are incredibly slow to boot up and operate compared to say, an H or Q.  These are all HDD.

Version Q compared to R, S or T (SSD) has a barely perceptible difference in performance.

Battery drain can be controlled by internal software on the newer ones, rather than replacing the Can Gateway.

Newer ones have full 7 digit postcodes in the nav software too.

When you say newer ones, which versions wont cause battery drain with a software upgrade?

Edit- I've also just seen a couple of sites online making reference to the latest units having Bluetooth built in. Is this the case?! There doesn't seem to be much info to confirm it.

I'd be interested in this too, though mine's an A.
