Hey guys and girls. Will be removing my gti steering wheel on a gti golf mk5 05. and want to hear from you who already have removed your once or twice, that how can i safely remove my wheel inc. airbag without setting it off or something like that :ashamed: and can the indicator stalk be removed without disconnecting the steering wheel controller and install a oem cruise stalk?
Any tips how to code the new stalk via VCDS and reset the steering angle in VCDS?
Thanks you :)

As for the wheel, battery disconnected is a must. Once the car is dead then there's no risk of airbag deployment, they require an electrical detonation to deploy so the age old myth that you can hit it with a hammer is rubbish.
Also, mark up the bolt you remove with a punch as you shouldn't re-use it more than 5 times.

What if i don't have in handy a M12 tool to get the steering wheel bolt off? Can a Torx be used to?
And when everything is back together, should the key be removed and steering wheel centered and then connect the battery and turn ignition ON? and plug-in VCDS to clear codes and steering angle? <-- how is that done? will it be easier to reset angle sensor if the computer ( controller ) is no't disconnected at-all?

By the looks of it you don't need coding only the tools provided
-
I mentioned this in another post, you have you have to disconnect airbag, steering wheel,, steering wheel controller, slip ring, angle sensor, and then stalk.

VW55raz has uploaded a pretty good video explaining what is needed to change the steering wheel. Unfortunately I can't locate the vid, so you may have to do a search.

Cheers Rob.
I already linked the videos in this topic

some say that you need to code with VCDS so it knows you have cruise stalk installed?

you cant just loosen it. it has to come off. once it is off, the plugs can still stay on.
