So about an hour ago I passed my test! I bought a gti last weekend and just got my insurance! first drive tonight... eek
-
As in you literally passed your driving test and the first car you're driving is a GTI???
I don't know whether to call you the luckiest man in the world or a danger to any other road users!!!
Congratulations!!
-
GTI's are not that fast really when standard, just a Golf lol.
When I was 17 and I first passed my bike test, I had a Z750 which could do 0-100 in about 8 seconds and I managed to not kill myself. Just.
:driver: :driver:
-
Jay I think you're sitting in fast cars for far too long and have become accustomed.
Go back to a 1L first timer car or some diesel family saloon for a while and you'll soon see how fast "just a golf" is.
-
I'm going to be a good boy until I understand the car. I'm only third party and fire & theft so don't want to wrap it round a tree and not have anything to get a new one! Plus I've saved up money and worked hard so think I deserve a nice car with nice wheels and leathers :D

My other half has an A4 170, "diesel family saloon". I don't get out of that and then instantly start doing huge wheelspins up the road in mine lol.
GTI's do 0-60 in 7 and a bit seconds, not slow but that's pretty much what any modern car with half an engine can do, BMW 3 series diesels are able to crack 60 in under 5 seconds nowadays!
I've never really owned "fast" cars lol, magical thing about cars is the throttle pedal has a range from between 0 and 100% :popcornsoda:
Like I said the guy may be quite old and just passed late, he may have ridden motorcycles before passing (like me for example), at the end of the day, his money and he is insured so what's the big issue (£1 please sir?) :happy2:

Gee thanks Jay. I rode a scooter for about 2 years when I was 16 if that counts! haha. I'm not that old, 23. But I'm not an idiot! (I know this is questionable after buying a gti for a first car, but you know what I mean)

Drive safe! Enjoy your GTI & remember the throttle on the GTI goes up to 11 :-)
& Drive Safe !!!!

WHAT A CAR. First drive last night. Definitely more then I was expecting! Scared my girlfriend and I didn't even break the speed limit. It was just how quick it gets to the speed limit that is amazing - such a powerfull engine. Wow
-
Unreal for a first car.
Just out of interest, how old are you and how much was your insurance?

THIS is what I mean Jay! No need to go on the defensive, I think the vast majority of members on the forum would agree it's a fast car!
Let's do a poll!!
Winner gets that £1

I know I'm very lucky. As I say - I've worked hard and it's what I wanted -that's all that matters
23, and 2 grand

Sorry jay, but I'm voting its a fast car :driver:

Just disagreeing with you. From memory you're not that old either, early 20s?

It's OK, my first car was a Corsa C 1.4 with a combat bodykit (all fibreglass goodness), ebay bucket seats, 19 inch Konig wheels.
basically this with different wheels.

-
Welcome along mate, very jealous of your first car :driver: (had a 1.0L 106 myself)
What spec and colour Gti have you got, get some pics up in members rides, not that i can say much as I haven't introduced mine yet either :fighting:
-
I had a Cinquecento as my first car too, back before the Inbetweeners i might add! A letterbox red Sporting model. My dad used to call it a postman pat van  Had a grand total of 54hp if i remember rightly
-
i had a 1.1 saxo P reg. loved it
3 stud compomotive mo alloys were the daddy
congrats on the passing of the test. i remember the days of paying £1700 for insurance it soons drops if your a good boy
-

:signLOL: got to love the 3 studs, it all started from a set of MO'S for me too :happy2:
-
Passed my test 37 years ago more or less to the day, my dad bought me a Mini 1000 for £1095.00 - I wanted the Capri 1600 XL next to it at the same money (3 years older) - he said no chance you'll kill yourself.
He was right  and I nearly did in the Mini LOL.
I'm sorry as much as you feel bomb proof and all knowing at 17 I'd have said no until you've got serious miles and road sense under your belt... you've got your whole life in front of you.
At least at 23 you've obviously got road sense - for now though as you've already got it, just go real steady :innocent:
Good luck and enjoy :happy2:
-
i think lack of BHP nearly killed me more times than too much ha ha
that ohhhhhhh sh*tttttttt moment as your trying to over take :driver:

Tell me about it! Its so hard to keep to the speed limits in this :innocent:
-
Good lad and congrats!
My first car was a Mk2 Golf GTI 8v when i was 17 - it's still in the family now and has been since new! It taught me a hell of a lot about driving but it was a steep learning curve. Not teaching you to suck eggs but treat it with respect and you'll be fine.

22 and I only pay £500. No way I could afford 2k.
No idea why people get decent cars as a first get a £500 shed get used to being on the road and get your bumps how every big or small out the way, then if you do have a little bump etc either leave it alone or scrap it, keep the insurance down by not claiming.
But a gti is still one hell of a first car and as you say you've worked hard for it :happy2: enjoy it
-
High five for working hard and getting a top car! :happy2:
-
congatulations, You must have worked pretty hard to get a GTI as your first car. my first car was a mk2 punto and it was great until the head gasket blew on it funnily enough lol. Hope you enjoy the new car
