Mind me asking, whats the buttons for next to the glasses pocket? They are connected to the Bluetooth module. The biggest is for voice control, the other for Assistance and the other for Information? I don't have an old cellphone to synchronize with this Bluetooth module so I'm not 100% sure.
Bought new rubber mats but VW updated them to the ones from the mk7 Golf. Tried one for the rear and it didn't fit properly. Compared the one for the driver with my carpet mat and it was nothing alike as well. I'll return them tomorrow. Fortunately a friend in a different city was able to get the "old" rubber mats for me today.
Lovely looking car mate, not sure where abouts you are but there are some lovely roads down the Algarve. Thanks mate! I'm in Lisbon so I can go to the hills near Sintra that have some lovely roads in the natural park. But first I want to sort the suspension as I feel the car too bouncy for my taste. The GT Sport with its upgraded but still comfortable suspension handles better at the moment.
Very nice car, especially in white.I chose the R32 bump stops because they're a bit shorter than the regular ones, since I'm replacing my lowering springs and dampers. I hope they're more adequate to that setup.
Can you tell me why you are fitting R32 bump stops?
Nice car mate!Thanks mate!
Mate that list is getting ridiculous, do you have a special room to keep it all in?. I bet you can't wait to get it all on, this is going to be a well sorted car inside and out. Great work :congrats:I wish I had the funds to order the brakes, but I need to have reserves for the eventual extra expenses that may be detected while fitting all the parts. The cambelt and water pump will also be changed for the 1st time then.
Stunning ride mate, I thought my parts list was long :signLOL:Your part list is more interesting than mine! I hope you get to fit them all in their places! What an amazing car you have and it will still get a lot better! :notworthy:
:happy2: Nice clean looking car matey, this is going to be fun :driver: ...:signLOL:
I like the way your getting everything together first, I try, but find it hard waiting
keep up the great job your doing :popcornsoda:
moreporni mean pictures !!!!
:partywave: :worthless: :partywave:
20 mods down :congrats: 100+ to go :popcornsoda:I still have a big pile of parts at home waiting to get fitted...
Thinking again about it, maybe I shouldn't have driven so fast, since the engine was too cold. :ashamed:Don't worry about about it m8 just changed my main stat as coolant temp would not go above 75º.
Today I totally forgot that I shouldn't drive too fast with the engine not at the correct temperature. The engine runs happier and more willing at 100 mph than at 75... :ashamed:Thinking again about it, maybe I shouldn't have driven so fast, since the engine was too cold. :ashamed:Don't worry about about it m8 just changed my main stat as coolant temp would not go above 75º.
The oil temp with the broken stat was 83º its now sitting at 94º.
Just get it done as soon as you can.
I have a spare inline stat if u have not ordered one. Thanks mate, ordered the only one my engine has (MY2008). Older engines have two, for what I read. I won't need to drive much until I have all the parts required to do the engine mods and sort that stat issue. My wife still doesn't need the GT Sport for her daily commute.
Thinking again about it, maybe I shouldn't have driven so fast, since the engine was too cold. :ashamed:
Yeah, I bought it just because of it's famed sturdiness. :smiley:Thinking again about it, maybe I shouldn't have driven so fast, since the engine was too cold. :ashamed:
I wouldnt worry about doing that just the once, oil temperature is more important than coolant anyways you wont have done damage these engines are far more sturdy than that. Loving all the interior upgrades, I've always wanted to do the RNS-510 and MK6 rear camera but always blow my money on performance and styling bits before I get to the interior.
your thread makes me want to make changes to my ed30 but i must resist :innocent: :innocent: :innocent: also was that a forge catch can kit in the previous pages ?Yeah, it's a Forge catch can kit to prevent deposits on the intake valves. A friend has one on his GTI APR Stage 3, so I had to get one as well.
No more quiet street!(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.powervalve.co.uk%2Fmedia%2Fcatalog%2Fproduct%2Fcache%2F1%2Fimage%2F650x%2F040ec09b1e35df139433887a97daa66f%2Fg%2Fo%2Fgolf_gti_powervalve_prestige_b.jpg&hash=f9ee5a75cf5f190218fc584db8e7cbac83ad7eb3)
It looks great! :jumping: Maybe you can make a small video with sound.
BCS is a quality product, full 3" i think.
So that's 1 of 200 bits fitted then? :laugh:I hope my list is starting to decrease, finally.
Candy white in 3 doors with Xenons is such a winning combination @Shoduchi (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10590) , they rarely rarely come up on the second hand market in the UK and you look like you're treasuring yours with OEM+ touches which is great.Well, mine might be the only Candy White in Portugal. I know there's a 5 doors Tornado Red with manual gearbox near my location but I've never seen it, just photos from a common acquaintance that shared them on Facebook.
Not necessarily that you'll still own it, but in about 15 years you'll probably get someone give you ridiculous money for it from Britain somewhere when they're in the early days of becoming a classic
Your car looks lovely. I was between a Candy White and Tornado Red, and if it wasn't for the distance, I would've gone for the Candy White!Tornado Red is also a great colour. :happy2:
Man this is a good build :happy2: I like how updated it is and the hundreds of parts you have being fitted :wink:Thanks for your comment. I'm trying to get it done almost all at once so I can really enjoy the car fully as soon as possible. :drinking:
Keep it up, and keep us updated. It will be a beast when it comes back!
Big like! :happy2:Yeah, the new brakes will need a proper bedding. Not sure if my mechanic will do it or not before handing the car back. I asked him to setup the suspension as he pleased, since he knows better how to do it. He'll have to drive it enough to really get the best setup.
It's turning into a real...BOMB! :jumping:
Keep in mind that you'll have to properly bed in the brakes.
After that I'd like a review.
I've read some bed-in procedures, it seems that there are quite a few, it depends on the vendor and application:Thanks for the links. :happy2: I'll check if he does the bedding or not. I do have the impression he's going to do it, because for what I know he'll also want to know what's the real power of the new brakes.
http://www.stoptech.com/technical-support/technical-white-papers/bed-in-theory-definitions-and-procedures/stock-brake-system-bed-in
http://www.apracing.com/Info.aspx?InfoID=73&ProductID=30
I've combined the ideas and then I've taken a 300 km trip at night, on the motorway, doing stops and gradually increasing the braking force.
Nice! you've been waiting long enough to get that lot installed.Indeed, but my waiting period to get all done will be long too. My mechanic is going on "forced" holidays this year or his girlfriend will "pack his bags" for good.
It looks very good, but I personally think the best pair of sways is 26/24 mm.Thanks. The pair you mentioned isn't sold as a kit. Can you get the sway bars separately? It's either 28/24 mm or 26/22 mm.
Please remember to do a proper bed in for the brakes. This has happened to me before, and they told me it was my fault because I didn't follow the bed in procedure exactly:
Caliper porn :congrats: Looks awesome!!Yeah! I can't stop looking at the pictures.
What were you indicating the disc for?Sorry Rich, I'm not sure if I understood your question. These are my mechanic's pictures, I know nothing about mechanics. :ashamed:
BIG BRAKES! :congrats:Thanks mate! :drinking:
I like
Looks awesome mate! :congrats:Thanks for your help! You made the final push to convince me to get the R32 rear brake setup now and helped sorting all the parts needed. :drinking:
With so many amazing upgrades I wonder how can you sleep at all. :jumping:
Can't wait for a review on the brakes.
That's a good output for the stock map. Again, I like that you're doing it the right way, dyno before and after. ;)I like the lines of the stock map. The dyno shop was very hot today. My mechanic told me he saw intake temperatures of 70ºC but he managed to lower them to 40ºC with water.
Nice update. Has your car been with the mechanic most of the summer? :sad1:Yeap. I only drove around 1000 km since I bought it. :sad1:
Don't know how I havnt come across your build thread before but I'll definately be following it. Lots of great mods done right. The brakes look massive! Make the standard 312mm look tinyThanks mate! :drinking:
Very nice updates! :happy2:Thanks bud! Finally it's now in the more juicy stage of the upgrades, getting that engine as healthy as possible. :drinking:
Proper mods, nice look! Step by step this is becoming a supercar!

Just curious to know how good it will be to drive without a limited-slip differential... I was told that my right foot will get used to it.
Nice built...Now go for Awd swapThanks for your suggestion. For the time being I just want to have the car back from the shop, then map it to Stage 2+, drive it and only after that see if I need to upgrade anything else. If I see that I'll need the LSD, I'll contact you to see if you still have it and for what price you'll sell it. :happy2:... I have an Mfacrory Dsg Lsd laying in my garage since i went awd and never install it..i would love i have done to see how it would be..For carbon built up i think methanol kit would help to keep it cleaner..

No problem with that!!Since you are also Dsg go check my external oil cooler.About the carbon built up in the inlet, I think it's due to the engine running cold due to the malfunctioning DSG thermostat and the previous owner not driving the car fast enough often. I hope that with the PCV delete and Forge oil catch can I can decrease that problem. I know that a water/methanol kit would be the best option but I've spent a lot in a short time (car + upgrades), I have to pace the costs as well.![]()

I've seen your external DSG oil cooler and I liked it a lot. I'll talk about it with my mechanic to see what he has to say. :happy2:
The only problem maybe that in winter time it may not even reach operation temperature.i will log it and see.if this occur i will install thisYeah, it's safer to have that fitted as well when it's cold, or the DSG will take longer to heat up to normal temperature. Apart from the cost I don't see any disadvantage.

I hope I can go get my Ed. 30 next week. It'd be my birthday gift. :jumpmove:
Thanks @dazza (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10457)! :drinking:I hope I can go get my Ed. 30 next week. It'd be my birthday gift. :jumpmove:
About time :pomppomp: :pomppomp: :pomppomp: :pomppomp:
Another great update matey, your car is coming along nicely...Yeah, I liked a lot receiving these pictures of the work done! It's just that hose that needs fixing now. :popcornsoda:
That would be a great birthday gift :driver: :jumpmove: :jumpmove: :jumpmove:
Good to see this project is picking up speed mate, bet you can't wait to get it back when its all done. :happy2:Thanks mate! After all this time I'm really looking forward to get it back and then get it tuned.
What a car bud. Keep us posted. Thanks for the comment.
With the catch can... Has the washer bottle been re-located? Is this the same on a mk6?The Forge kit has a new filler for the washer bottle that sits beside the catch can.

That silicon hose connects the washer bottle to the fiiler.
I've found these kits:

EDIT:
I remembered that you might be the owner of the Ed. 35. Well, you have a mk6 with the same engine of the Ed. 30, a BYD, so you better not mention that you have a mk6 GTI when it relates to engine parts. It can confuse other people. Yours uses the same parts as mine. If you have a charcoal canister, the kit for your car is like the one I bought.
Cheers mate! Wasn't expecting you to go off and find me one :)I'd get the R-tech PCV delete kit since you won't be using the car much. It will still get the inlet full of carbon with time if you don't do a PCV delete.
Yeah mines the ED35, I was just thinking about placement in the engine bay - which is the same across GTI and ED35.
Not sure if I should even bother with it being a weekend toy, with little to no track use.
Lovely car! Love CW.Thanks mate!
Finally the end of this project is in sight. Thanks buddy! :drinking:
It is a monster, driving it should be a superb experience!
Big LIKE! :happy2:
This is some proper piece of kit! Big brake kit with the Ultraleggeras look totally badass!Thank you for your comments!
I am running the same H&R springs as you and I also used to previously have the Sportlines on. I switched to the H&R because I wasn't happy with the rear being slightly higher than the front on the Sportlines. Now that I have been running the H&R's for some 2000 miles, they also sit a bit higher at the back. The H&R's also sit slightly higher than the Sportlines at the front, I believe the difference is about 5-10mm on my car.
Just out of curiosity, have you noticed that the H&R would sit higher and could you possibly measure the distance between the center of the wheel and the top of wheel arch? :) Mine used to be 330-335mm front and back with the Sportlines and now it is 5-10mm more with the H&R's.
Maybe this will help:Yeah that was one of the rattles. :drinking: I saw a Facebook post about this with a DIY a few days ago and I remembered that it was one of the possible causes. I shared the link with my mechanic and that was the last rattle that he sorted. The car also had some dashboard bolts and some small stuff not tight. The car is ready to be picked up! :partywave:
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,94747.0/topicseen.html
beautiful car, brake  :happy2:Thanks, white really suits the mk5 too. :happy2:
About time! Enjoy!  :drool:Yeah! Modding this engine was a lot of time consuming to my mechanic and since he only worked on his spare time I had to be patient. He made sure he could do everything to prevent future problems. For that I don't mind too much waiting.
Is that the 18z caliper setup? Looks so much bigger than my setup :( wish I spent abit more money just for the looks! Look wicked. Thanks mate!
What suspension you running? Car is lovely mate hope to see more pics!

-EBC Redstuff front brake pads for Brembo 17Z
Really like your oem plus upgrades, I really want the rns510 and the mk6 climatronic :grin:Thanks mate! Fortunately this car already had a RNS-510 from factory so it wasn't so bad to update the version.
Need more pics!!!!
Oh man your car is a beast. Perfect minimalist styling with 2d candy white, anthracite Ultraleggeras, nice stance and those bad ass brakes! I was reading up about all the performance mods you've done so it has to be quite special to drive too. Thanks mate! I'm really loving the way it drives. Right now it's still on the stock map but it's fast enough for the daily driving.
I have a 2007 2d tornado red GTI myself with 18" Ultraleggeras too that I was planning to trade for a newer one recently but after seeing your car, I again realized how good these things can look despite being quite an old model. I think I'll just service my motor thoroughly, do a few chassis improvements and drive another few years at least! : )
You are not wasting time, my friend...Thank you for your compliments friend! :drinking:
Very nice mods! Keep up the good work! :congrats: :congrats: :congrats:
This thing is awesome man, auto mirrors are a really cool touch :congrats:Thank man.
Looking good sir :happy2:Thank you Dan! :drinking:
Looking good planning a respray on my front in the spring.Thank you buddy! Mine although it wasn't looking bad from some distance had a lot of stone chips. For now it's sorted.
This car is very beautiful! :happy2:Thank you mate! Yours too. Candy white really makes it stand out. :drinking:
Hi how much did the respray cost you looks really good in the picturesThank you mate! Replied with PM.
Waw :happy2: great mods on your Ed30! Great looking and love to read your thread!! :happy2:Thank you RBS! I've seen your build thread too. Yours will be awesome too. :drinking:
Lovely car, great read keep up the good work :)Thank you Jase!
^^ what is it mate? It's the Golf Bluemotion rear axle lining. It improves the aerodynamics of the car. You need these parts if your rear axle has the left screw already there: 1K0501713D, 1K0501682, N90548305 and N90183802. The needed screw for older versions is N91001101.
Seems familiar :innocent: Now where have I seen it before :happy2:I've read about this in Sept/2014 and got it fitted in the GT Sport. Who/where have you read about it? I haven't seen many fitting this part. :drinking:
Can't wait to start working on mine!
Keep up the great work!! :notworthy:
Numbers look good but honestly I would have expected a bit more, can't remember do you have an induction kit? If not that could be holding it back a bit.Not sure what can be expected from a 98 RON gas at 1,4 bar of boost. One of the tweaks I've asked for was to change the DSG limiter to 7000 rpm. At the moment it cuts too soon.

I didn't fit a CAI, it would fail a MOT with it. Just a ITG panel filter. The MAF readings were fine for this level of tune. Not sure how they'd be with more boost requested.
Here even my lowering springs can cause a MOT failure, because they're not OEM. A lot of MOT techs know better and only fail bad suspension setups and too lowered cars.Numbers look good but honestly I would have expected a bit more, can't remember do you have an induction kit? I'm suprised the CAI would cause an MOT fail but you obviously know more than me .
Yeah I'm not sure what level of boost a stage 2+ map runs on K04 just what the power outcome usually is, how does it drive now? Bet it feels great with the new power and all the suspension/ brakes etc...
I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it, you definitely waited long enough to get it all finished.Yeah, I waited a lot indeed. Knowing that my car was in the best hands I know of, and that I didn't have to pay an horror money for it, comforts me a bit.
Got this today from VW. Already had this fitted in the GT Sport, now it's the Ed. 30 time.

Still one new mod to share. Hopefully it will be today. :jumping:
A difference that you can really notice, I highly doubt it. I didn't because both my Golfs already handled well at +120 mph. It does make a difference following what you can read in the topic, that I previously shared the link, about this aerodynamic upgrade.Got this today from VW. Does this make a noticeable difference to anything?
Seems like it would improve front-to-back airflow and high speed stability?
Haha true. You've got me considering it now. It's one of them geeky upgrades. Thanks mate! :drinking:
Love the Eddy btw :happy2:
It is truely a great project :happy2: enjoyed it !! I know the feeling! Thanks bud! Your list of goodies is awesome! I'm sure you'll be really happy with your Ed. 30 when it's finished. :drinking:
Had the oil changed last weekend but couldn't work further because of family mathers :drinking: This May not be ignored! :signLOL:
Stil got some nice goodies waiting to come
Have fun with your ride :congrats:
Nice one mate, glad you enjoyed it. Can't wait to get mine back on track for the first time since all the new mods.Yeah, now I fully understand what's all about the excitement of doing track days. :driver:

Nice to hear you had fun and no problems. :drinking:For a 1st time I think it went very well. Thank you for the advices buddy. :drinking:
Yes, tires are maybe the most important thing so some semislicks will be great in the future.
Taking videos of your laps is, IMHO, the best way to improve your driving skills and your lap times.
:happy2:I've started the journey of modifying my Ed. 30 almost 1 year ago. I'm sure you'll be able to enjoy yours sooner than I did and it will be awesome too. :drinking:
I am jellous @ you
you can already enjoy your Ed 30!! Aaaaaargh :jumpmove: :jumpmove: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats:
Great work! Enjoy!! :happy2:

Some lovely track snaps, looks superb on track. CW 3door with Xenons is my soft spot   :evilgrin:Thanks @rdfcpete (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=590)!
Dump these in the track photo thread @Shoduchi (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10590) :happy2: That's a thread I want to keep running for sure, one of my faves on the forum. Try and keep it topped up where I can...
Nice to see it getting some abuse. looked great fun! :happy2: :happy2: :happy2:It was awesome to be able to drive it so freely and as the car is capable of. :driver:
great vids :happy2:The car was good enough on the straights. Pity the tyres not being better in the corners but I hope I'll have better ones for the next time. I suffered from too much understeer and I've set the RARB to the stiffer position to improve that now.
car looked quick on the straights
i got my first day on track saturday i cant wait
Sounds like you were driving in S mode, rather than manual. Youd have much better control in M modeYeah, I ran mostly in S mode. I didn't feel confident enough with the car to drive it in manual. I tried it for a bit with the paddles but I just messed up the gear changes due to turning the wheel. I still drive the GT Sport most of the days, so I'm not that used to using the paddles. It's easy while driving on the road, the track is much more demanding. :ashamed:
Here you go

Nice mod! :happy2: :wink:Thanks bud! :drinking:
Looks realy great! :congrats: :congrats:
Very nice! :happy2:
great work as always m8 :congrats:Thanks bud! :drinking:
  :grin:That's great! What do you think about the GFB DV+? :drinking:
Mine is already done buddy :drinking:
Hey buddy :wink:I hope you recover soon! I'm waiting for more news from your build!
I'll do that as soon as the doctor give me clearence :happy2:
I must admit the response is much faster!! I also changed the unit which holds the GFB DV+ and the DV with a unit which has been flowed!
Wow,,,!Thanks mate! :drinking:
Great thread, great car
Yes, they will fit. TD have great break clearance, even better than Ultras with the same ET45. ;)Thanks buddy! I've seen TD at 50% discount from demon tweaks and I was almost going to order them with Federel RS-R. I think I'll leave that deal for when I sort my current tune. I'm not getting the feedback I was expecting from my tuner so I might try another like Revo. Maybe I'll get the VWR CAI to remove that power restriction I have at the moment too.
OMG! At first look i thought that is a LE Mans winning Martini Racing Porsche 936. :jumping:
Then I realized it's a Radical SR3 painted in Martini Racing colors. A great track car. :driver:
I'm sure you'll get it sorted with the tuner, then i think TD with RS-R is the best value for money out there, serious wheels. :congrats:
Thats a nice set, think you have every type of hose clamp covered with that.I hope so! I wanted the remote action cable-type flexible hose clamp pliers so a friend recommended me this set that was with a great price at the time.
The one on the cable has saved my knuckles a few times. When i had to change a coolant pipe on the beater i doubt i would have got it done without it.Yeah, that pliers is really great to work in the engine bay. It was very handy when I repositioned the DV to the front of the engine. I used my friend's pliers then.
I've got a very similar set (if not the same) and it's a life saver! Makes working on the stupid clamps VW use so much easier, saves so much time. And knuckle skin.
Nice new goodies :happy2:I'm still learning the ropes of doing my own mechanics but when I helped my mechanic with upgrading my GT Sport I learned how handy some proper tools can be.
Also the pliers set is very handy!!
Saved me too a lot of time and open knuckles! Learned it the hard way in the past! :rolleye:
Somehow been a while without checking up on this :thinking:Thanks mate! :drinking:
Cars looking great and really good on track. As usual you've done things properly :congrats:
Be interesting to see what comes of your tuning issues and hope you get it sorted and make the best of a cracking car as soon as you can :drinking:
Nice touches, always fancied the housing and plug myself as I'm always changing the oil. :happy2:Yeah, I'm trying to get this project finished in the next couple of months. Then it will be just maintenance and more track oriented bits (pads, tyres, if the budget allows a new set of wheels just for track use).
Sounds like my exact plans just you're a couple of months ahead :happy2:I hope you can get your new BWJ engine fitted and running sweet soon. :happy2:
Nice toys!!My finishing touches to the car. :drinking:
How much was the filter housing?£59.99.
Being able to adjust the camber is a major thing for a FWD car. I belive it counts more than a set of coilovers.Thank buddy! I can't wait to have the new parts fitted so I can test the handling improvements.
Great mod! :congrats:
Nice one! :happy2:In June I should get my car to my mechanic to fit the last bits and do an oil service. I'll book the next track day in September in Estoril.
How's the :driver: going on the track?
Hi Shoduchi
If I may can I know the part number of the Mk6 Climatronic unit? I have not managed to get hold of that part number that eliminates all the excess I do not need.
Thanks. Will look for that part number. Sadly they don't offer it anymore with that unit. I'd have to live with the heated seat icons and have no automatic recirc (what I wanted to avoid which online I've found no heated seats but always automatic recirc option)Mine has heated seats and no automatic recirc. The GT Sport has a panel with no heated seats and automatic recirc. For daily use you can live well with the automatic recirc function. It still works well with manual recirc.

You need a AC blower with one engine flap. Older versions have 2 engines flaps so basically that's what you need to worry about. If your Golf is a MY2007-2009, you have no problem. :wink:Thanks. Haha but now I was hearing that maybe it might not be plug and play with my car. Do you know what I need to look for in terms of part number with vagcom etc to be sure its a clean swap?

Here's hoping I fall in that range.Yes, you need to perform some wiring changes. Have a read in this topic, I'm sure it has the info you need: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,93764.0.html (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,93764.0.html).
If I do. Is it a basic plug play and reset procedure or must I cross some wires? Probably one of the biggest cosmetic changes I'm hoping will be quick and easy hehe
Btw love the approach you took with your car.

Thanks for the compliment. :drinking:
If it's a MY2007 it should be the new version. The automatic only activates if you press twice the button in a short time. If you press once and let the recirc activate, when you press again the recirc deactivates, so it's just like the mk5 climatronic panel. :smiley:Here's hoping I fall in that range.Yes, you need to perform some wiring changes. Well according to my vin its a MY07 (here's hoping the change you mentioned didn't happen midway through the model production and I'm left with a 50/50 chance). However thanks for the link aside from the first few pages of pure confusion I think it may end up being very helpful.
Now to find that piece...I guess like you said I might as well live with it and accept the automatic recirc light option haha
Stunning motors :happy2:
Its not exactly hars work to make your car look good mate :happy2:
Very nice pictures.
Great pictures of a fantastic car! Love the Ultraleggera alloys...
Lovely pair of cars :happy2:
Great shoot @Shoduchi (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10590) :drinking:

Your brake kit still steals the show on the darker leggeras'
:happy2:
Great pictures :happy2:Thank you!
Lovely cars :)Thanks Jay! :drinking:
:happy2:Thanks mate! How is your upgrade going? Still waiting for parts to arrive or you have news?
Great shoot! 2 beautifull vdubs! :congrats: :congrats:
I usually hate these golfs in Silver! But damnnn - yours looks amazing! Thanks fazi123! I'd love to own that silver but it's from a friend. My wife's Golf is less modded and not so good looking.
Oh and the candy white one - we all know how stunning they are! :happy2:
Had a small photo shoot session with a friend and his highly modified GTD. He has the proper camera and skills to make our cars look so good.

Does it rub on the arches when you turn in hard @Shoduchi (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10590) ?Not any more. I had to remove the top wing arch liner screw.

You can set your ride height just a bit higher. Any stronger ARB will make your GTI corner flatter. You might try the H&R 28/24 mm ARB kit.
do the H&R anti roll bars help with keeping the car flat round corners ? The only thing I haven't replaced :signLOL:

Lovely car this, looks so good out on the track. Thanks!
Is that a Nova (GTE/GSI?) side by side with you on the straight in the 11th photo?
There used to be a GSI with a 2.0 16v red top conversion knocking about near me a long time ago. Very quick, but kept breaking driveshafts etc. I haven't seen a Nova on the road for about 10 years!Lovely car this, looks so good out on the track. Thanks!
Is that a Nova (GTE/GSI?) side by side with you on the straight in the 11th photo?
Yes, that's an Opel Corsa (Vauxhall Nova in the UK) with an engine swap from a Vectra 2.0 16V 136 CV. With semi-slick tyres and its lightweight can do the same lap time as mine. I just beat him in the straights at the moment.

There are still a few well preserved Corsas/Novas being used here from enthusiasts but I can still see the odd not so well preserved Corsa/Nova driven by some old man.
I think the majority of them over here rotted away many years ago. Very rare now. Always triggers a bit of nostalgia when I see one though, reminds me of being in awe of a 1.4 SRI as a teenagerThere used to be a GSI with a 2.0 16v red top conversion knocking about near me a long time ago. Looks awesome on track bro. :congrats: :congrats:Thanks bro! The work done is paying off now. Saving for new wheels and semi-slick tyres now.
Great pictures man!! :happy2: :wink:Thanks bud! It was great fun! :drinking:
Love this ed30 don't see many in white :happy2:Thanks! :drinking:
Beautiful carThanks!
Beautiful carThanks!
Good things happened around here since last time I've read the forum. :congrats:
You're taking this trackday seriously!
Awesome car mate! :driver:
Looking good, nice to see you getting to use it how you wanted after all that time spent building it.Thanks mate! It's always fun to drive it! If gas was cheaper I'd do it even more often... :signLOL:
That is a cracking looking motor!
Nice, that reminds me I need to do 2016/2017 maps on my Kenwood. Been putting it off for weeks lolThe updated maps have new roads available around where I drive. It's worth the update when trying to run away from traffic sometimes. It can now calculate better routes.
:happy2: Nice!! But what does it do?? :party:I hope it boosts the petrol I get in my country to similar levels as the best in the UK. I can only get here 98 RON and I need an higher octane fuel to get more power from my engine safely.
Is it an aditive you poor into the tank?
And as allways : Love to see you enjoy your ride on the track! :happy2:
Great list of mods fella!! :notworthy:Thanks for the engine cover! :drinking:
You must have taken the day off work to have time too order all that :signLOL:
Nice list, let us know your thoughts on the crank pulley when fitted? I've been toying with this, would be good too hear your thoughts :happy2:
Wow you really made the most of it didn't you. Great stuff as always :notworthy:I plan on using the new wheels and tyres next year on track days. After watching the first episode of The Grand Tour with the Holy Trinity in Portimão's track I really would like to try it myself. The track is about 200 miles away. Not cheap but feasible to do.
:popcornsoda: :congrats::drinking:
As ever : nice updates :happy2:
Nice new shiny bits mounted :congrats:
Like the look of the VWR Intake, I can imagine it offers the best of both worlds....Less restrictive then the OEM Airbox but still pretty quiet compared to an Open Air Intake :)Sorry to Shoduchi for cluttering up his build thread, but yes - from experience, the VWR intake is very expensive, but it is just simply just the right amount of whoosh, chatter, and quietness.
Pro Race 1.2's aswell :happy2:

I'm quite happy with the new increased roar on full boost and quietness during normal driving. I can hear just a bit more the DV+ chatter but nothing that I'd consider annoying. Now I need to see what difference does it make on a dyno sheet but since my K04 is only making 1.4 bar of stable boost I'm not expecting a very big increase, really. I do hope there's some difference since the car pulls well.

I've heard stories of lighter crank pullies causing issues so be wary of that.I didn't heard any but I didn't really search for them. I just trusted the GFB build quality... I'll look into it now.
Glad you have made some nice small mods they look good :)
Only question is on the dyno chart what's the odd looking flat spot at 2500rpm?
Best Lightweight Pulley Kit for VW Golf GTI Mk5 2.0t 04-09: The Go Fast Bits Golf mk5 crank pulley-non underdrive
GFB's lightweight non-underdrive crank pulley (part number 2012) is made from anodized aircraft-grade billet 6061-T6 aluminium and offers sharper throttle response and faster acceleration. Kit includes: crank pulley, 6 x bolts, 6 x washers (original factory belt is used).
GFB pulleys are designed to improve acceleration by reducing the rotational mass (inertia) on the crankshaft. The effect is similar to a lighter flywheel, and the engine feels more lively and willing to rev.
We know that people are sometimes concerned about possible adverse effects of lightweight pulleys, but rest assured we have done our homework! Whilst it is true that some engine types do suffer harmonic issues from lightweight pulleys, we steer clear of those. The kits we release are thoroughly application tested and do NOT cause engine damage in the short or long term.
Our products are manufactured in Australia and the company is accredited to ISO 9001, which ensures our products meet stringent quality requirements at all stages of manufacture.
GFB have Australia's best performance turbo management solutions. See more of our range at www.gfb.com.au.
There is a common misconception that the factory crank pulley is a harmonic balancer which is not the case. The Volkswagen/Audi TSI engine's rotating section is fully balanced from the factory prior to the accessory drive pulley being installed. Since our Rotamass Lightweight Crank Pulley is precision balanced by both design and manufacturing, it performs nearly identical to the factory part it replaces. With our test engine, we removed the crankshaft prior to the installation of the pulley, measured the bearings and crankshaft journals. During all of our testing there was absolutely zero signs of abnormal engine wear.
WHY NO HARMONIC BALANCER?
A better name for a harmonic balancer would be "torsional dampener" since its main task is to absorb the rotational pulses inflicted on the crankshaft by the pistons. Most often it is incorporated into the crank pulley by attaching the outer belt drive ring to the inner by means of vulcanized rubber. At the right RPM, it is possible for a resonant frequency to be set up torsionally on the crankshaft. Resonant frequency occurs when the pulses of the engine correspond with the natural frequency of the crankshaft and it ancillary components. However, since factory pulleys are often comparatively heavy (reasons for this are described later) it is actually the large mass (and therefore inertia) of the factory harmonic balancer and flywheel that will help to excite this natural frequency. So by dramatically reducing the weight and inertia of the crank pulley, the natural frequency of the crankshaft is shifted and its ability to self-excite is greatly reduced. So in fact it is the harmonic balancer's own weight that necessitates the dampening, and since the weight of a GFB crank pulley is typically about 20% of the factory component it cannot supply an exciting force significant enough to damage the crankshaft.
An opinion often expressed is "if the manufacturer put it there, it must be there for a reason". However, if you look at it from the car manufacturer's point of view, casting pulleys from steel is very cheap and easy, because they can be produced in large numbers and there is no waste (as opposed to machining them from billet). But because the resulting pulley weighs significantly more than one made from aluminium alloy, it requires dampening.
Manufacturers will always build cars (even high performance cars) to suit the widest possible selection of driving scenarios and drivers, which means there are always compromises. The weight of the flywheel and pulley also affect how fast the revs drop between gear shifts, and a production car is designed to only allow the revs to drop fast enough for average shifts. If you hurry the shift the revs will be too high for the next gear, resulting in a sharp jerk as the momentum of the engine transmits through the drivetrain. Reducing the engines' inertia with a lightweight pulley kit allows faster and smoother shifting.
When looking at high performance engines such as those found in Honda VTEC equipped cars and the S2000, it is obvious that manufacturers do understand the benefits of reducing engine inertia, and have utilized lightweight pulleys to help the power output and responsiveness without the use of a harmonic balancer.
However, this is not the case for all engines, many of them do require the use of the harmonic balancer to prevent failure. Skylines with the RB20, 25 and 26 are a good example of this, which is why we don't make a pulley kit for them. The pulley kits we do make are for engines that do not rely on the balancer to any significant degree.
Nice results! :wink:Thanks RBS! :drinking:
Good progress, nice upgrades :)Thanks Jay! :drinking:
I think OEM engine pulley is better TBH. I have read a lot of issues with lightened ones.
Great pics man
Very nice mate. Glad to see you getting out there and using it as you intended toThanks Dan! :drinking:
Nice!
Just read your build thread start to finish, stunning car mate, so much attention to detail & amazing mods list! Keep up the good work :)

XP20™ - Temperature zone : 135°C to 1093°C
Another step up in the highly successful XP™ series of compounds. XP20™ is the replacement for the highly successful XP16™ compound. With an extremely aggressive initial bite, linear torque curve and excellent fade resistance the XP20™ is still favoured by many. XP20™ has a temperature range of 135°C to 1093°C+ and maintains our tradition of having the outstanding release and modulation that has made all other Carbotech™ compounds so successful. The XP20™ as with other Carbotech™ compounds is very rotor friendly. Carbotech™ XP20™ is NOT recommended for use as a daily driven street pad due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise

I've said it before, but your car is stunning. Perfect example of an ed30.Thanks mate! From what I was told from a fellow track day friend, who uses them on his Megane RS with 370 BHP, they're the best he has used so far considering the cost. He puts them at almost the same level of the more expensive Endless and Project Mu.
The pads sound good. Hopefully shave a bit off your lap times!
i always remove centre caps when on track
the chances of losing one or as you have found out melting one its just not worth the risk

How do you find the rear brace? Notice any difference in tight turns at speed?
Plastic pistons in the brake calipers :surprised: Not seen that before. Not surprised they melted!

Thanks Pudding!
The rear brace could be better made. My mechanic recognised its shape from many years ago sold by Raceland. He doesn't like to put holes in the body since he worries about what's behind the holes. He also didn't like much the bolts that came with the nutsert kit (very weak) so he advised me to avoid removing the brace. It's secure and tight but the fixing points won't like to be much messed with.
The car feels more like a go-kart. It's very solid and due to the H&R ARB it also doesn't roll much. Since my mechanic also adjusted the front Koni dampers I think most of the gains that I had on the reduction of the understeering were from that. The rear brace just helped a little by keeping the rear solid and the wheels aligned on tight corners. He also told me that he needed to reinforce the lower centre brace so it can make a noticeable increase in car's rigidity.
I also didn't know that there were pistons made of resin in Brembo calipers. :surprised:
You been bussy :happy2:
Keep up the great work! How'z the trackdays?
Stunning car!
PSS10 are brilliant. Highly recommend
Why does TUV certification matter? Is it a legal requirement in Portugal? We can fit any old random crap to our cars in the UK and no one gives a toss, least of all the government in seems  It's MK6 or nothing now anyway, so comes with the cert! MK5 and MK6 chassis are identical.
Personally speaking, having owned PSS10 before, I would not buy them again for a road car. The Ohlins feel very similar in terms of handling and road feel, but the ride quality is just so much more forgiving. Both are good choices for track work though. Had KW V3s as well and definitely wouldn't own those again. Built well but very over rated in terms of handling and the dampers are not even in the same league as Bilstein / Ohlins.

Yeah, it's a legal requirement here to get the different suspension part legalised to a car. It has to pass tests made by an auto lab and the lab only accepts parts with a TÜV certification. Most people don't do it but they can have their car impounded until returned to stock and also have to pay a fine.
So unfortunately Ohlins, although being one of the best available in the market, aren't an option for me. Just like the AST 5100 that were also recommended for track use by a friend who has them on his Megane RS3.
I'll have to see if the PSS10 on softer settings are forgiving enough for my needs on road use. They don't have to be really forgiving, just at least the same as my current setup (H&R springs with Koni Sport dampers). I hope they meet that since for a car used on track mine isn't that harsh or that firm, due to how the dampers are set. For what I've read so far, they seem to be soft enough when set with the softer settings.
For track use they should also be easy to adjust by increasing the stiffness and rebound.
Well, that's what I'm hoping for at the moment.
My mechanic has the same opinion about the KW as you.
Just looked on Ohlins website and you're right, no approvals for the MK5. How weird. The kit was developed on the MK5, and is exactly the same kit for MK6/Scirocco :stupid:
Anyway, I'm sure the PSS10 will be fine with the rebound turned down a bit. I suppose it's the only choice you have......but it's a better choice than KW for sure :happy2:
I wonder if these are TUV approved? https://www.dcperformance.co.uk/uprated/tein-euro-dampers/volkswagen/golf-mk5.html

I think Ohlins just preferred to not pay TUV to have their Road & Track tested in a mk5 GTI. They must have just sent the newer mk6 GTI to get tested after they developed their kit for the PQ35 chassis. It all comes to costs. :sad1:
rich83 has the PSS10 fitted and loves them. I'm sure they'll be fine for my needs. For a more comfortable ride I have my wife's Golf with 17'' wheels and softer springs.
TEIN is also another online well spoken brand that doesn't have any parts TUV certificated, AFAIK.
I did a lot of reading up on KW vs PSS10 vs Ohlins and came to the conclusion it's too subjective to base a purchase on internet opinions. So I relied on good old gut instinct and experience. AKS Alex and Fab5Freddy moving from PSS10 to Ohlins did help with my decision slightly though
Get them bought already! I'm sure you will find them agreeable :happy2:
Just been reading your thread ....
Great car with some very nice mods and more to come I see :happy2:
Hi dude, just wondered where you got the front brakes from? Im loving them alot ! Would really like to get a set for mine . Are there any fitmeant issues or requirements at all? I have s3 calipers/rotors , do you know if my discs can be used with them? Sorry for all the questions :ashamed:
Thanks for the info , appreciate it :happy2:
Ive just done a bit more research and it would appear if i want to keep my wheels i would have to run some wuite large spacers ..... Which i dont want to do
Ill do some more research :happy2:
If it was today I would have gone for the TTRS calipers with the Vagbremtechnic 362 mm AP floating discs. I think they'd fit under my wheels as well. At the time it looked too expensive because of the AP floating discs (I'm using plain MB ML450 350 mm discs that just cost around 100-120 €).
What are my issues with my current setup? Well, because the MB discs are closer to the hub, I can't fit adjustable ball joints from SuperPro. They rub against the discs when cornering due to their bigger size. It's also not that easy to source floating discs for my calipers. ECS Tuning makes them but they only sell them to who bought their stage 3 BBK. :stupid:
I have no complaints about braking power or brake pedal feel. They're very easy to modulate and very strong under hard braking. I never felt fade with them.
You could use custom Reyland bells and AP Racing CP4542 355x32 discs, I'm sure that with a few spacers your calipers will fit. This is what I'm using now.

Hmmm...yeah, that's strange, I never knew the existing of those discs, but that is good news.
You'll save a lot of up-sprung weight. Be careful with the bed in, J-hooked are known for generating some vibrations.
Did you install the LSD?
Unfortunately this happened to my Reyland J-Hook discs:

I tried to clean them and do the bed in again, but I still had vibrations. After 2 trackdays with no more then 30 laps they cracked. Could be that APs will perform better.

Yay, the Bilsteins are on :happy2:
You must be enjoying how firm and stable the car is in the corners now?

Without question :happy2:
Genuine AP discs are the business. Discs aren't just discs, it's all in the steel quality :happy2:
   Finally!
Can't wait for a review. Mine is taking longer than expected. :scared:
Looking forward to your diff report
Those crown wheel rivets used to shear off on older Golfs, punching a nice hole in the diff casing. At least with the diff they get replaced with proper ARP bolts :happy2:

Not as common on the 02M/02Q/02D boxes, but it has happened  Was a big problem on the old 02A/02S.
Sounds like it's made of the right stuff :happy2:
You're right about ARBs with stiffer suspension. The stiffer springs do the same job. Personally I would refit the OEM ARBs again as that is what Bilstein and Ohlins tune their kits with :happy2: It will improve the ride quality on bumpy corners.
I cannot find anyone in Bucharest to do a proper corner balancing. God job! :happy2:
Would be perfect with you at the wheel, or at least the final wheel alignment part. :driver:
Yes, I'm going to be at wheel for everything and the gas tank at around half capacity.
Spot on - it is no miracle, it cannot beat 4x4, but it's a must for high powered FWD.
That Honda tough :signLOL: - had the pleasure to test one, even on a dump track was only less that 3 second slower than mine. Honda completelly stock, mine with all the mods on slicks.
Nice :happy2: Glad you like the LSD  Very subtle isn't it, until you kick it into action!
Good stuff. I am still undecided whether to continue with the hassles of the manual gearbox, or switch to DSG, but either way an LSD will feature in the build
Just need to decide if I go plate diff (gripper) or torque biasing (Wavetrac, quaife, peloquins, your diff etc).
From what I've read, plate diffs can massively increase understeer, so you have to drive them differently.
Gripper do a road version of their diff which is supposed to be quieter and less aggressive, but it's still not maintenance free and won't be as smooth/quiet as your diff.
Yep, TTE420 still to do and now DSG. It's going to be an expensive year   I am thinking exactly that - medium boost for 380-400hp, rather than flat out and risk breaking a piston :happy2: But it will have a much fatter torque curve than the stock KO4
What is next for your white beast?

Lol, expensive indeed, been there.
I've always fitted good parts on mine, that was what kept me from selling and getting one with DSG. But for sure it is cheaper that way.
  Great news! Looking forward to see the new results. :D
Lol, you kept that quiet Joaquim  You beat me to it!! :drinking:
How does the throttle response / low end performance feel compared to the KO4? I am expecting it to feel a bit laggier?
How old is your TTE420? They changed the compressor wheel to a GTX2871 billet fairly recently, much to the anger of people who had already bought one with the older wheel
Did the tune need much adjustment? I am thinking of just running mine with Revo 2+ and see what happens. The MAF will self tune to an extent and I can tune the fuel and timing with the SPS.
What FPR do you have in currently? RS4? You may need a 165bar FPR if you push the TTE flat out. A TTRS lift pump would also be a good idea.

Yes, I preferred to wait and see if all was fine with the used turbo. :innocent:
The car is now more progressive and near the torque limit of the DSG. So it's faster but also easier to drive than before. I do notice a tiny bit more lag than my K04 had, but the spool is still pretty good when I floor the accelerator. I also don't get the surge that I had with the K04, so in practise this turbo is much better. Good low end and stronger top end.
I'm at the limit of the RS4 FPRV at the moment and it's enough for me. I don't plan on flatting out the TTE. I'll fit a DW65v in a old shape fuel pump basket. I ordered a 1K0919051AE. The TTRS pump doesn't have the gas level sensor with the correct shape, so it messes up the reading.
When did they change the compressor wheel? I've seen a post from April 2015 talking about a 2871X TTE billet compressor wheel (Link (http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/tte420-upgrade-performance-turbocharger-vag-2-0-tfsi.234622/). I think my turbo is from mid 2016 so it should have that new gen wheel.
My tune tweak decreased the low to mid end torque (my DSG started slipping because it was just too much boost at almost 4000 rpm) and increased the fuelling at the top end to go with the increased air volume from the bigger wheel. I'm still getting to know how the engine works because it's raining, so it's easy for the wheels to spin even in 4th gear if I press too much the accelerator.
When I made the logs the road was dry and the car was very fast. The ECU was still adapting, so it wasn't at its best yet.
Fit the turbo, I bet you'll love it as much as I do.
lovely golf!
Beautiful looking motor :happy2: Great mods. Bit jealous of your front parking sensors wish I had them on mine haha. Have you installed optical parking ?
Some serious weight loss here!
Great work :happy2:
Are the TTRS calipers better than your existing Brembos? The GTI lettering looks great to me
Good to see you back on track.
The car looks superb and I've just realized that I've choose the wrong color for my TD wheels. The up-sprung weight saving is always good and it will be felt, but there is also rotational mass reduction. :happy2:
I've also used Carbotech XP20 and they are generating tremendous amount of heat despite my brake ducts. In the end, I switched to Pagid. I think that's why the OEM discs can't handle them.
AP Racing :drinking:
It all fits perfectly :happy2:
I found the same with the Passat spindles, it completely threw the toe angle out....a LOT!
The tie rod mounting arm looked lower compared to the GTI's by eye, but I never measured the height difference. Adding the 5mm taller Passat / SuperPro ball joints to the Passat spindles is great for reducing bump steer :happy2: Probably a minor benefit on a smooth track, but on bumpy country roads, it really helps.
It is weird how the Passat got all the good stuff but it's not even a 'performance' car
Fwiw fitting the superpro (passat) lca and bjs onto my stock gti hubs changed the toe enormously also! Think the cars with the heavy 345mm brakes got alloy arms and hubs to offset some of the weight gain.
Passat was mostly 312mm brakes as per the GTI, and the R32 got cast steel hubs. I wonder if the Jetta got alloy parts? I think it VW just consider the Passat and Jetta more 'premium' than the Golf. How about the 6R vs S3?
Brakes looking delicious
Looks great with the new breakes mate!
Should be something that you fell in steering with all the parts changed at one time.
I also changed my hubs, wishbones, dampers, struts, wheel bearings and a few other parts once everything was apart anyway… Just makes no sense to me why my Vagbremtechnic adapters won't fit with my 986 front calipers from the Porsche Boxster - Hopefully a solution will come soon! :rolleye:
Oh, that is a proper drivers car. Couldn't care less about some saying it's ugly, form follows function. :happy2:
Finally had time to do the tracking with the new suspension mods. I also had to raise the car due to tyre rubbing on the wing arches under hard cornering. I think now it's like stock height. The front camber is now -1,0º -> -1,21º with the SuperPro ball joints set for the maximum negative camber. This change was noticeable on cornering, which is nice. I think it also shouldn't increase much the inner tyre wear.
I finally could get the SuperPro rear adjustable drop links fitted. Initially I got the wrong kit because there was a mistake in the SuperPro Europe catalogue. Had to contact SuperPro Australia to sort this problem. They contacted their European branch and I after a couple of weeks after my emails I got the right kit. So the European tuning store sent me the kit listed on European SuperPro site which was TRC1045. That kit doesn't have a long enough bolt on the end that fixes on the rear hub. The catalogue is now corrected.

Why not get the Audi TT suspension arms - with adjustable camber and get more than 2 degrees of camber?
I promise it won't affect the tire wear :innocent: - as I've been running them for years and I don't see anything wrong with the tires. Oh... for the track more than 3 degrees would be ideal but you can't get that with OEM suspension parts.
:drinking:
I'm surprised you are not running Ground Control camber plates. 2.5 degrees camber available from those, plus another degree from the SuperPro BJs. The camber plates are so much more than just camber though. Spherical bearings supporting the damper rods makes a huge difference to damper response and cornering control, especially if there are bumps mid corner.
I have a set of them waiting go on, but they are 15mm shallower than the OEM top mounts, so I need an 200mm long front spring to maintain the same ride height. I don't want to use a helper spring setup, I hate them!!
I also raised my ride height to approx 10mm lower than stock. I wasn't getting arch rubbing, but I just like to keep the stock roll center and suspension travel, ground clearance etc :happy2: It feels a lot better raised up. More responsive to turn in and less 'jiggly' over bumps.
I like the rear drop links :happy2: Sealed ball joints instead of Spherical bearings. You don't want spherical bearings on exposed suspension parts, they just don't last!
I’m sure it is no small coincidence that the former GT3 development guy who moved from Porsche to VW chose to use 2 degrees on the Clubsport S. Not sure what toe settings they use on the CS.
It really depends on the tyre compound. For street tyres a 2 degrees negative camber is ok, but semislicks require more and for slicks I think 3 degrees is the right setup.

From what I read about it that would require to have the steering arms ends modded to be able to fit the TT steering arm ball joints. I prefer to keep those stock for the moment. :innocent:
Thank you for your suggestion and your personal experience. I'll take that into account. :drinking:

I like the rear drop links :happy2: Sealed ball joints instead of Spherical bearings. You don't want spherical bearings on exposed suspension parts, they just don't last!
I thought about those before but I'm afraid of losing my current ride comfort and NVH level. I think we share a similar taste in ride comfort, so I'll wait for your feedback when you get the top mounts fitted. If you approve them, I'll go with the same setup.
I just want to get the ride of my car setup a bit better than stock and able to go to a track without having any issue. I'm also worried about high speed stability when increasing the negative camber too much. I have no experience with driving something with -2º or -2.5º of front camber.
The standard GTI and TT-S engine covers do not foul the HPFP with the AKS roller conversion kit :happy2:
Motul 300V is a good oil :happy2: I've been looking at LiquiMoly Molygen, it's supposed to be a very good oil. A Millers Nanodrive alternative, but with VAG 502.00 approval, which the Millers does not have
What number do you see in VCDS block 91, or is it 93? Can't remember. -3KW is about right.
Love the project, very inspirational. Keep up the good work :happy2:
Great project! Keep it up :happy2:
Also love the colour! Candy white is one of my favs
I bet those brakes are incredible! They certainly look the part :happy2:
-1KW is perfect by the way :happy2:
Good point, I was about to order some...I’ll stick with the plastic ones then.
They have some interesting comparative data on their site Shoduchi and the DO88 seems to flow very well. Look forward to your feedback on subjective feel after installation.
Your cars looking great mate very nice :happy2:....i also love the photography very well done. How do you rate your new rear bushing?
Can never be too early to stick on an upgrade get it on
Ordered a new IC from do88 (https://www.do88.se/en/artiklar/audi-seat-skoda-vw-20t-fsi-intercooler.html?fbclid=IwAR16lXDg2vh1YeOdK8TbY-wFn-E9lmjUlEcO3HaaLZMO4lwmTn5_jVAgwBc) because my IAT rised a bit above 50ºC on the last track day with 25ºC of ambient temperatures. I know it's cold at the moment but I preferred to get it now than wait for the hotter weather.

Can't wait to fit it and see if I notice any difference even on cold weather.
What IC do you have currently? S3? 50º on a 25º day isn't that bad, to be honest. I remember IATs hitting 70º in my MK4 days with the side mount coolers  I think the ECU starts pulling timing at 45º from memory, so keeping it lower than that is a good move :happy2:
Interested how you find the DO88!
Just had another nosey over your page cars looking great as usual bud. Hows the lower temps working for you?
Im jealous your so close to Estoril ...great track looks a great day out...and your photographer is doing a great job also car looks brilliant :happy2:
The graph looks nice. :happy2:
Fore sure it just pulls and pulls. A bit confused about that difference between power at the engine and at the wheels.
Then don't worry. That is the right acceleration time, 8.2 is really fast. :jumping: It must be a software error.
Wow, lots of updates
IC looks great :happy2:
The reason for the high coast down losses is because of 5th gear. You will also measure less wheel torque at the roller in 5th and 6th. 4th is 1:1 ratio (no gearing at all effectively - 1 crank revolution = 1 road wheel revolution) and will read the most accurate wheel torque, and will also have the least coast down losses. 5th and 6th takes longer to slow the dyno down, hence the high losses. And similarly, you shouldn't dyno a car in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear because they increase wheel torque, but you would get smaller losses :happy2:
I've never heard of wheel torque being 'too low' for a dyno before, that is strange!
I really would not concern yourself with that stuff. It's just numbers. It's obvious in the driving seat when modifications work :happy2:

The problem with the test in 4th gear is that the bench didn’t push the engine enough to make full boost, so the torque measured was only 443 Nm, so the engine power was 398 CV with that torque. Measuring in 5th gear, being an heavier gear, really pushes the engine to its full power. It measured in 5th gear on the 1st test 412 CV/480 Nm. Then I asked to test in 4th, which didn’t seem to be a true test with the least torque I’ve seen measured (the exhaust sound was also weaker on that run). So I requested a final run in 5th gear to be sure about the numbers. It came with a bit more torque than the 1st test and similar power (409 CV/495 Nm). When I had the K04 the car measured 500 Nm in 5th gear on a different Maha dyno.
The dyno owner didn’t want to modify the dyno’s factory settings. Not sure if with more roller brake in 4th the car would measure better.
That is a strange. Standard practice on dynos is to use a 1:1 to gear ratio, or as close as possible. Maybe 5th is reasonably close to 1:1, I haven't studied the gear ratios in DSG or manual, but mine was measured in 4th and had no trouble putting the right numbers down. 4th usually is 1:1 in most gearboxes though. My tuner uses an old Sun Dyno from decades ago  Maybe the newer ones are more sensitive. Not sure. Great numbers either way :happy2:

It made good numbers for a lower boost pressure than with the K04, which was what I wanted too when I decided to go for this upgrade. Lower boost levels should mean lower IAT on track. And no surge too.
Yes exactly, I was just saying that in Csirgo's thread. Less stress on the turbo (compared to KO4) and more power too, win win :happy2:
It's too late now, but I discovered recently the Ohlins kit now has TUV approval

I only a TUV certificate for the Golf mk6, not the mk5.

MK5 as well now  https://www.ohlins.eu/en/products/automotive/skoda-octavia-rs-04-13--36/
Thankfully we don't need approvals in the UK!
New mods look to be working a treat mate very impressive :happy2:. Im also interested in your opinion on your LSD...does it help prevent any straight line traction loss at all that you may have noticed...or just cornering as you would expect?
Was going to ask yourself and pudding your thoughts on whether or not its worth fitting a TTE turbo running the same levels of boost? I belive its a different scenario as compared to yourself as im running a standard back box so not sure if its worth it but after reading your post about no surge and lower AITs i may take the plunge....although you have a full system so maybe hard to tell...id be intersted in puddings thoughts on this also as my turbo does whine a bit now...nobody else notices and you cant hear it outside but i can...not burning oil either...any thghts from your experience?
Nice updates
My rack will need replacing at some point as it knocks also, so I'll probably do the same as yours!
LSDs are hard to get right on FWD. They're great in the dry but in the wet, they can be a hinderance as you don't want both wheels spinning mid corner! I reckon the Wavetrac with the MK6 XDS ABS ECU is probably the best every day package. The Wavetrac combines advantages of torque biasing and plate diffs. Normal ATB diffs like Quaife and Peloquins still need a minimum of 5% traction on one wheel, otherwise one wheel will still spin like an open diff. They're both useless in snow and ice. The Wavetrac offers a bit of traction in zero load conditions, but will never match a full plate diff. Plate diffs can be a pain in the neck in a road car. Noisy and require maintenance to replace worn plates, but a road spec Gripper diff is apparently the best of them.
Anyway, XDS + Wavetrac is the way forward :happy2: The MK5's XDS only works up 40ish mph and is easily overwhelmed by remap/BT torque. The MK6 XDS is full time at any speed (iirc) and is way more effective.
Hi, I see you mentioned the below 6 different parts for the rear axle covers, are they 6 different parts? Thanks
Mk5 Golf Bluemotion rear axle cover (1K0501713C; 1K0501682; N90548305; N90183802)
Bluemotion rear axle lining (1K0825206A & 1K0501713D
and did this lpfp fit ok in the housing?
265 LPH DW65v
I've read the DW65 doesn't fit in the later LPFPs with no lid. Are you running that with the OEM controller? Any surging problems with a low fuel level?

I ordered an used pump that can be opened. I've shared the part number (1K0919051AE) on the post where I talked about fitting the DW65v. I'm running the OEM controller with a tweak on the tune to limit the pump's duty cycle and requested pressure. I can run with 15 L in the fuel tank. With less I've not pushed the car.
12.84 for the 1/4 mile is an awesome time for a FWD car (al least in my book).
The car is looking great, as always! :drinking:
Looking great as always :happy2: I don't know what it is with the Pro Race 1.2 wheels. They look good on some MK5s, and a bit boring / too small on other colours. They suit your white colour :happy2:
The ride height looks a touch high at the back (the pics at the bottom of page 42). Do you find that helps on the track? I tried a similar height on mine but the Ohlins default height (a bit lower at the back) seems to turn-in a lot keener. Just an observation
Thanks @rex (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2615) and @gartht23 (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1634) !Looking great as always :happy2: I don't know what it is with the Pro Race 1.2 wheels. I raised the rear coilovers when setting up the suspension to transfer more weight to the back. I think the rear is well sorted now (loose enough) with the way I have the coilovers set to F6/R1 and the ARB soft/soft. I might try the harder setting on the front ARB to see what it does to the handling. There's always space for improvement. Thank you for your thoughts.
very nice project! :happy2: :happy2: any updates? :laugh:Other than changing the oil and oil filter and driving it, nothing to report so far. I've been focusing on different projects since the beginning of this year. I hope I can re-focus a bit on my toy car and go do more track days. The mileage has increased to 108k km/67,1k miles.
Those figures look :happy2: I’m glad you’re still enjoying your Ed 30 :happy2:
What’s a stage 2 Balance shaft delete kit?
And kiddo’s… will be kiddo’s  they always are doing something they shouldn’t!!
Bin there also
As for your celebration… cheers :drinking: :drinking: Enjoy :happy2:
Nice :happy2: show us the update when you’ve mounted them :happy2:
