Finally getting my candy ed30 on tuesday, number plates have been sorted out ( He had a private plate on ). Flying down first thing in the morning Aberdeen - Leeds.
Spent the last few days clearing out my garage, repainted the whole place including the floor so it has a nice new home waiting for it :smiley:

Yes, its an 08 plate, 16K miles, 3 door, rear tints, 19" BBS CH's, Eibach lowering springs, Bluefin.
Fairly low spec as far as standard options, no Xenons or MFSW :sad1:
However, cant wait :jumpmove:

Good man. Don't worry about the spec, it can all be retrofited, and just stick some osram night breakers bulbs in their - sorted. Just a couple of sleepless nights

Your Initial thoughts of your Journey home from Leeds will be good reading.
I bet your finding hard to sleep. I remember when i was collecting any of my Gti's i always couldnt settle to sleep easily.

Turn the map off, make sure you get the Bluefin handset though. Then try it with the map. :wink:

The car looks lovely and with the CH's is spot on.
Turn the bluefin off and travel half way home, then pull in to a motorway rest stop and turn it on. You'll really get to notice the difference then :happy2:

......usually i would say the A1 but there are loads of road works on there at the moment (extra lanes being added etc) & a couple of lads at work have had nightmare journeys to & from work so i would try to find the best way from the M6. Skipton is very well sign posted & easy to get to from Otley so it should be straight forward for you. :happy2:

Yeah thats a pity, it would of been nice to meet up before I take the car up the road. Its my first venture into the VW world, had a string of cars mostly Vauxhall and Subaru saloons so looking forward to trying something a bit different :driver:

...........you won't be dissapointed.Had my GTI 6 months now & it's the best car i've ever owned,would have loved an edition 30 my self but due to budget etc had to go for the ''normal'' GTI.Still pleased with it tho as i managed to get a set of genuine edition 30 alloys as i'm not a fan of the Monza wheels.

Unsure about roadwork issues with m1, but if you plan to take the m6 route via skipton, then its well signposted.....

Tell me about it... mine has spiralled as well. Had a set back lately though, an ED30 is looking unlikely as we just can't justify the extra cost of the insurance to be put my Fiancee on there, so it's looking like it'll have to be 'standard' GTI now (booked our honeymoon at the weekend - could've bought a high milage GTI for the cost of that alone! Ref the trip home mate.If you struggle with Skipton signs around Otley, follow the Harrogate signs & you should end up on the A59 which will take you straight into Skipton.Enjoy the drive home :driver: :happy2: & don't forget the v power. :signLOL:

..........thats fine then mate.I just though if you were a bit lost in Otley then the road from there to Harrogate would get you to the A59.You'r route should be fine.Sorry for the confusion. :happy2:

Hello folks, well sorry for the long wait, but thats me home in one piece :drinking:
Got out of the airport in leeds and it was there waiting for me, gleaming of course and stood out like a sore thumb in the car park :star:
The drive home was a lot of fun...and that is the car in standard form, i am VERY keen to find out what its like with the bluefin in.
Really nice car, interior a lot better than i expected, pictures dont really tell the full story, the black check and half leather is really really nice and very comfy seats too.
Not had much chance to have a right poke about at it yet, need to get some supper then it will be back out to the car to have a look through everything.
Car has gone from candy white to muddy brown in the space of 6 hours, need to get that sorted in the morning and get some pictures.
Very impressed, think i am going to love it :jumpmove:

Cheers mate, yes i got myself back onto the M6 no problem at all, bit of a slow road though, a lot of traffic and a lot of wee villages down to 30mph limit.
Its been a long day, a bit stressfull with the anxiety of hoping the car would be ok and everything would go ok and the early rise.......not to mention the lack of sleep last night :grin:
Cant even get the car into the garage yet, it needs a full week to cure with that new floor paint, so friday at soonest !
Tomorrow, i get to wash it, bluefin it and take it onto roads i know very well :evilgrin:
Its always when you are washing a new car that you find things you never saw before....hopefully nothing sinister :smiley:

Today was the first time i had seen it. picked up on a couple of imperfections on the car that he had not mentioned to me on the phone and managed to knock down our agreed price by a further £750 which was a real bonus :smiley: .......and before anyone says it, no, it is not extra money to throw at modifications.......Yet :grin:

Two of the wheels have slight kerb marks (he told me only one had) , He has 50% tints on the front side windows and the drivers one has started peeling away at the top, (might just take off the front tints altogether) . Steering wheel is not dead center when driving in a straight line, will need aligned.
Apart from that, car is in fantastic condition.

Got the bluefin installed this morning and have given the car a good road test, the car is noticably quicker to get up to speed and overtaking is a lot easier too. It is not as aggressive as i thought it was going to be, the car almost holds back a bit then just after 4000 revs there is a noticable surge of power, i thought it would surge straight from 3000 revs but it doesnt :confused:
Has anyone else here got the bluefin in thier ed30 and is this normal ???
I am thinking about returning it to standard then getting the revo trial to see if it is any different.

u might have a blown dv maybe

..........or may have the wrong map, dsg version and manual maps are different. You should have more power at 3000 and not 4000rpm. Sounds like somethings a miss.
Give superchips a ring to get them to confirm your map to handset serial number :happy2:

yep i would say something amiss too, just been for another drive and i would say it is a bit toothless up until 4500 revs then it pulls hard.
If the d/v was burst dont think i would get the hard pull at 4500 rev onwards would i ??

pain in the ass on the K03. Much easier on the k04.

It wont be dv if it pulls as hard like you say. Does sound like another "rare" case of superchips suppling the wrong map :innocent:
My Manual map gave me poor increase in torque and horrendous gear change pause with my DSG car. They do two versions of map for each type of gearbox,a toned down less aggressive type and a more aggressive version, which ive trying both and found the lata much better :happy2:

As far as i am aware, it is standard Dv.
Phoned superchips and guy confirmed it is the right map, most recent and asking for full torque / power low down.
He told me to revert to standard and try reloading the map in again.....so thats what im doing right now. I will drive car standard again to see if it is boosting ok near 3000rpm, then i will remap it again.

give it a few miles to loosen up and adaptr. it might make the difference

Lots of superchips customers have had similar issues, they are very good at customer service, and if you stick with it they will sort it for you. It might take a few tweaks to your map though. :happy2:
Also there are a few members who have had it, and they just couldn't get on with it. They didn't like the delivery of it. :smiley:

Well had it back to standard driven it and back with the map on. Really strange as below 4200 RPM it doesnt feel much different, almost like it is holding back, then big delivery after said rpm.
As i said i phoned SC and they say my handheld has latest software and power / torque to come in as early as poss, so i am a bit bewildered. I expected the power to be big all the way from 3000RPM, so i believe there is something not just right.
It is only the initial acceleration that is suffering because when going hard through the gears it is rarely below 4000RPM so feels very quick through the gears......just that initial build up is a bit toothless :confused:

Get her on the rollers tbh maybe, and that might help in the diagnosic.
Mine certainly isnt lethargic, turbo spools up from 2800-3000rpm with Bluefin,no where near as late as yours.
Are you running 99 octane aswell?

ask for the other maps, they have provided them in the past

air whoosh sound was what mine had done on a Manual map for my car!!!.
As said, get all the maps sent.
You shouldnt hear that air leak sound at all.

I phoned up superchips again and they just reiterated that i have the latest map for a manual edition 30 and nothing else they can do ??
They said i should maybe take it to my local vw garage and have it checked out :confused:
Hmmmmm, thinking about reverting to standard and going for the revo trial.

I have given you some pointers in your other thread.
As it stands I don't think the Revo trial will be a good solution as you don't know why there is a problem and a visit to your local VW dealer because your remap doesn't work would not be a good move. :surprised:
Perhaps try a local independent VAG specialist. :smiley:

I have had my battery disconnected for a while yesterday so i think my ECU has reset (making it like a fresh install of the bluefin) and the car feels different , boost takes a little longer to come on and i reckon when the car has learned my driving style again it will be just like before :evilgrin:, perhaps yours will get better with the miles ?

What i should really do is put the standard map back in and take it to my local VW garage, i would of thought they would of been able to check all the relevant pressures / actuators / sensors with their VAGCOM .....it still has over a year warranty on it so no harm in asking them to check it out is there.

I think they will charge you a few bob, if they dont find any faults that is not warranty.
Have you had a look at your DV. Its easy to get too with the KO4. :happy2:

I was thinking that because i am getting plent boost up the rev range the DV must be ok ? Worth a check anyway.

As this has nowt to do with the symptoms mentioned above, we went for a wee blast and did a couple of log runs.
From what I can see, the car is doing everything that is being asked of it. The boost does not seem to increase at any great rate until after 4000rpm as can be seen below;

Knowing how boost comes in on a Revo and GIAC car, this does not seem normal. As you can see the requested and actual boost are fairly well matched, and the requested boost is not going past 1 Bar until after 4000rpm. There is no shortage of fuel either.
Is it normal for a Bluefin map to only ask for boost after 4000 rpm? If so, it seems a little strange to me given that the spool point is way before this in the rev range.

What was the car like in standard guise whithout SC on? could see if the car performs the same without the map on.

We never did try that, but from what I was told, the power delivery is as it should be when standard - nice and linear all the way to the red line.

I aint no mechanic just wondering if there is a smaller issue when standard that is amplified when the car is mapped.

You are maybe right, but the thing is that the car is doing what is asked of it. Specified boost is not over 1 Bar until after 4000rpm. I never did think to check the throttle position via vagcom when doing the logs though. I guess that would have been worth checking too in hindsight. Brain wasnt working all to well tonight though as I am pretty tired. :signLOL:

I believe that this 4000rpm boost symptom you are experiencing is as a result of Superchips "revised" map which makes for more traction lower down the range - I may be way off here - but seeing that makes me think that that may have been the problem with my original bluefin map. I asked them to revise it !!

doubt very much its your dv valve its positioned in a different area on the ed30 KO4 away from the turbo so alot less likely to fail
my thinking is its the remap - this was one of the reasons i swapped to revo from superchips, the boost doesn't come on a until c4krpm then all hell lets loose which meant it felt quick but not very progressive -
i swapped to revo 2+ and it is alot smoother as the boost comes on gradually from lower rev's rather than one big hit at 4krpm
you should have a 28 day money back guarantee, using the handset switch back to stock get a trial of apr or revo and if its noticeably better then send the bluefin back
its a £20k car whats another hundred or so quid to make sure you are happy with it :happy2:

Agree with Gareth at 1st thoughts as this sound like the tuned down version or the less aggressive map.
But ive just thought, my car logged with the Manual map with vRStu which turned out to be a duff map.

looks like you need to get superchips to send you another map. Looking at hedges post, actual and requested boost levels are completely differnt at the same revs, by some way on yours Subaru.

LOL, well it was a while back when i asked, i have sent an email of just in case, since i reset the ecu the near 4k limit is evident again, although its not in all gears from what i can see, i will see what they say and will see how it goes when the car beds back in

It is the VALUES such as requested boost, timing, fuelling, etc that are the same not the actual maps as you and I know Phil but....
If you put a manual map on a DSG car it misfires like a bitch.

Not as far as I am aware however should you give Shaun your handset number then Superchips could possibly give him the same map.
However you have had an additional map since then so the possibility for failure is present. :smiley:

it sound like you have the map i had before this one, i.e feels better from low down, but the peak power is less (hard to tell from jusr driving)

Aye, well I am unfamiliar with SC and BF, but I have to say I am not altogether blown away by them so far. My view on SC BF before was that its the option to choose if you are worried about warranty as you can remove it completely from the car unlike its competitors. This is still the case as I cant see any other redeeming features thus far.

Ok, if you look at column D, this is the air flow, there is no air flow until nearly 4,000rpm when it starts to rise, which also follows with Column F with the ignition advance, it shouldn't be getting near to 20 degrees advance until much further up the rev range, even then it would be in the mid teens. Then when you look at Column E, you see why, it isn't on full throttle until 3880rpm.
As such it look like you have a problem with your throttle.

I know this is difficult to read but you can see the throttle angle does not go to 99.6% until 3880 RPM. The throttle was burried from a very slow roll in 3rd gear all the way to the red line.

i was going to put up your rail pressures etc, but your actual rail pressure is pretty much bang on what the specified is.
there are no lambda logs there so cant do you an AFR.

you havent sent me the file but from what you posted the % throttle goes up then down then up again to 99.6%
that doesnt tally with every other logging Ive done, so something is effecting your throttle position.

are you sure you dropped to low enough rpm then WOT from say 1500 rpm ?
simplest explanantion is that you started the run too late and didnt bury and hold the throttle.
I'm not sure if traction control would drop the throttle % (so it may also be that) , I would also suggest logging your 4 cylinder ign delays just to be sure its all ok.
for whatever reason you car was not WOT until 3880 rpm......

same ish profile , up , down , then back up again on throttle angle sensor ......
have you tried logging in a higher gear e.g. 6th ?
have you checked for fault codes?
have you done a throttle body reset?
but my first suggestion....
flash it back to stock and log again to see if you get the correct 99.6% at point of WOT.....

logging in 6th on public roads, prob wouldnt reccomend that. whats 1500rpm in 6th about 35mph @ a guess id say if you pull that through the rev range your in some seriously high spped, and you aint going to have much road to pull that off.
3rd and 4th gear all the way.
Good advice though to takethe bluefin off and see how it is without that. Ddefinately worth the try.
But the thing is though, his throttle angle does hit 99% after 3800rpm, which surely means it is working, and does function, but something in his ecu or map is not telling it to open up all the way below that?

flash to stock to get the 'default' behaviour for the throttle % and take it from there.....
(with further logging in std mode for N75 and angle delays)
and then try ESP off when logging in BF mode
Dont thrash the car silly until you can ascertain why its not running right (enough to log only)
there are 2 sensors so if you log both they should add to 99.6%
remember you can try this with the engine off

confirms that 99.6% is the value you should be seeing if everything was ok for 'one of the bluefin' maps, this fits with the other tuners maps Ive seen logs for.

I am just of the phone to the lad in Aberdeen with the VAGCOM and i will not be able to do the standard run until tomorrow. Should i just do the run with the same logging paramaters or is there anything else that needs to be logged ?
The car is in standard form just now and ready to be tested. Really am a bit depressed just now, the car only being 18 months old, i expected just to plug in the SC map and be away with no problems whatsoever, however on the other hand i am on a steep learning curve on the VAGCOM diagnostics and have met DJHorace through this, so its not all bad. DJHorace (Allen) has been the most helpful guy i think i have ever met, nothing seems to be a problem for meeting up, he gave up his friday night at the drop of a hat to do some logging on my car and has spent some time making enquiries for me...absolute gent ! :drinking:

Log the N75 Duty Cycle.
You can log up to 12 with advanced measuring blocks if need be.

you are looking to prove your car behaves correctly on the std map :
i.e. 99.6% throttle at WOT from point of run (1500 rpm ?) , boost spool early to peak at 3k rpm ish , N75 duty cycle common profile.

you need to do those logs on both maps though.
hopefully it performs fine on the standard map, if so then you can give it too superchips to sort out, and you wont hve to replace anything on your car.

so does this means that the superchip map is effecting the 'Electronic Throttle Control' - anyone got any logs for the other remaps showing the throttle?
i presume this is how they create their reduced low down torque maps by controlling the ETC :confused:

I have asked for the data to plot as it is very diff to read but
your N75 data varies std to mapped but that could be norm...
I can also see that for mapped this time ath the start of one run you managed 99.6% at 1900-2000 rpm for a brief moment then it dropped again then back up to 99.6% at 3800 rpm.
Either SC control some areas by altering throttle control OR you have an issue thats causing the engine to reduce load based on a problem (despite your foot being WOT)
On all previous data I would have erred on the SC side effecting ETC but having seen a 99.6% value at 2krpm for the mapped data I'm now not so sure.
At the end of the day its the angle sensor value thats being measured......if that changes (despite WOT) and the throttle works normally in std mode I can only assume at this stage to concur with whiteGTI that it appears this is how SC are modulating the way the map works
on the basis of what you have so far, Superchips should be helping you to resolve this.
other option would be to get an REVO or APR trial , then wouldnt the SC handset allow you to flash back to stock or SC mapped map that are stored in the handset.

Having seen the Bluefin kit, it looks real slick and seems easy to use. It is my opinion however having looked at the logs that the car appears to do everything asked of it. I think now is the time to go Revo unless SC come up with the goods or some bright spark on here can suggest something because I know a Revo or GIAC Golf would destroy Kev's Ed30 as it is and I think it must be to do with the map given that the car behaves exactly as it should when standard.

whether the drivetrain/clutch can take it is one thing, but an ED30 spooling at 2700rpm ish is one of the best things about mapping....

Car pulls hard all the way from just over 2000 RPM to the redline, so basically there was a problem with the SC map despite the SC dealer saying it was the latest map and no problem at all.
Not sure if i will get anything back for bluefin as it was already installed in my car when i bought it, so might just sell the handset on fleabay.
REVO doing a deal just now and including the SPS2+ handset FOC so nice little deal i got and i am chuffed with the performance of the car, it really shifts now :jumping:

same experience as you mate on my k03. changed to another vendor and it made the bluefin seem like sh!t.
it doesnt make sense to me though as for some people they work great, for others they dont. ie hedges is smashing out some right figures on his on a DD, so they can do it.
Not sure if i will get anything back for bluefin as it was already installed in my car when i bought it, so might just sell the handset on fleabay.
the problem you have is a new bluefin handset is only 390 sheets, i sold my handset for £60 purely as it was going to cost the buyer a further £190 to have the handset rest for another vehicle. (£190 is what superchips quioted him BTW)

The revo cost me £573 that included the sps plus switch.
As far as the revo sttings go, it is set on the safe side with boost 6, fuel 9 and Timing 4, im going to see Allen and get it set for optimum performance, that should make it a bit more lively :smiley:

Funny you should say that. When I first went out in it, I asked if it would spin going off a roundabout. I didnt. I bet it will now :signLOL:
