Title: Lowering springs
Post by: Vwgtiking on June 03, 2015, 10:13:47 pm
I am after say 10mm additional drop on my gti. Just wondering what springs people run? And a side pic of how low it is.

Sorry I will be asking a lot of question over the next few months.

10mm?....that not even noticeable mate, usually a 30mm drop is seen as a small drop, ie VW racing or Eibach streetlines.

The you have mid range drop 30m-50mm, loads of different brands.

I have Eibach Pro-Kit with Koni FSD dampers in my GT Sport. Rides very comfortably (especially with 17'' wheels) with much improved handling. The setup only lowers the ride about 5 mm from a standard GTI. Koni FSD dampers aren't compatible with more lowering springs.

Yeah, I have them on my Ed. 30 with OEM dampers but they're not as near comfortable as Pro-Kits with Koni FSD. Not harsh but I wouldn't call them comfy after riding the GT Sport.

Looks they're spot on, indeed. :drinking:

Looks wise Eibach Sportlines are spot on. Pro-Kits look a bit too high but for bad roads I go less worried about clearance.

18'' wheels but not a leveled spot:

17'' wheels on a more leveled spot:

Aren't you happy with your Sportlines? Or you're after a more comfort ride, is that it?

Here's mine on 30mm H&R springs, perfect height I think, low enough to look good but high enough to make it over most speed bumps. :driver:

Shod are you eibach 20/25 or 30mm all round. So many variations.

You see many variations but there are only two from Eibach, either Pro-Kit or Sportlines.

Pro-Kits (black painted) compared with a normal suspension are -30 mm, compared with a sport suspension (like GT/GT Sport have) are -15 mm and compared with the GTI suspension are -5 mm (hard to notice any lowering, you'll notice the better handling and ride comfort).

Sporlines (red painted) compared with a normal suspension are -50 mm, compared with a sport suspension (like GT/GT Sport have) are -35 mm and compared with the GTI suspension are -30 mm (the perfect lowering in my opinion, better handling and a bit of improved ride comfort).

H&R just has one version of springs for GTI that are -30 mm that are very similar to Sportlines. They are painted blue. Other Golfs versions have different models of H&R springs that are similar to Pro-Kit (painted black too) and to Sportlines (painted red too).

If you want comfort go for a less lowering version. If you want better handling on corners and better stance you can go for the Sportlines or for the H&R -30 mm. :happy2:

If you don't want to lower it more, you can get Eibach Pro-Kit springs.
