Title: My golf GTtdi Sport more door(for sale)
Post by: mortygttdi on December 18, 2008, 07:23:06 pm
Hi all only just found this site from one of Shaun's(182 blue) links so thought I would post pics of my GT diesel.  Ive had the car for a little over a year and although still not happy with the current wheel choice im hoping that will be sorted soon...the rest of the car im happy with.

This is it when I first got it, it was std apart from the wheels, nappa leather & Mfd2 fitted.

Then I managed to get a very cheap front GT bumper from Hull VW so swapped that over
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.golfmkv.com%2Fforums%2Fattachment.php%3Fattachmentid%3D28873%26amp%3Bstc%3D1%26amp%3Bd%3D1216060342&hash=8fa8daeaecabe37e620c693820046ea9914e50d5)

Then came the side skirts rear bumper and exhaust and gloss window trims and wheels
So this is how it stood at the time with the new wheels on.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.golfmkv.com%2Fforums%2Fimages%2Fmygolf%2F1568%2FS1050204.JPG&hash=c1edf9d936fb2541a46631093dc23da2f058adf7)

But it didn't stop like that for long and amazingly shrunk into the ground and grew a chin

HI Darren,

It's Norbreck21a (Andrew) from over at UK-IV's. Always wondered what your ride was like - sweet, and black is definatley the quickest colour, and the 5 door is the only one to have (but then I'm biased)  :happy2:

I was going to post some pics of my ride, but I don't think it can live with yours (is pretty much standard apart from 18's) :ashamed:

Thanks for the kind comments every one

Hi Andrew nice to see a few of the locals from MkIV on here :grouphug: by the way Andrew I got my laptop back and reloaded all the vag can-commander and vag-com back on and now got ETKA updated to 2009, I had to buy a new harddrive but it runs alot faster now with a clean install, ready to do your cluster swap.

JPC ive got the golf dropped over FK highsport silverline collies,  they are wound down but need taking up a little bit cos im just catching speed bumps on the subframe ive just put some new 215/35/18 tyres so this makes it even worse :chicken:

Greenhouse that was the colour I was thinking of either that or similar to the M3 wheel colour.

Right abit of an update a few pics

The next step in my mods was the highline cluster so with the generousity of Andrew(Norbreck21a) I had an highline for my GT I fitted it myself and had no problems at all.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fss4%2Fmortygttdi%2F27012009086.jpg&hash=f2f4ce6a9ce1cd11a223f4065c3bff998ec69511)

Next came wheel colour change to SEAT FR grey

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fss4%2Fmortygttdi%2F17052009033.jpg&hash=0a79c89cfe3e00245399ae2930e0610ae26ea8f2)

I was on the look out for a new multifunction gti steering wheel and found one on here so bought it and fitted it just need to change the steering controller which again Andrew(Norbreck21a) come to the rescue.

I also needed a new headunit and found someone on the net who would part ex my MFD2 for a new RNS510 so I got that and fitted that aswell.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fss4%2Fmortygttdi%2F19052009036.jpg&hash=6e1f3662d2d66b1541708ce0f9191d3dbb3c5c70)

Then I also needed a new BT kit and found out that VW did a premium kit that worked well with the RNS510 and FIS so I looked on ebay.de and found a premium module cheap again I fitted that myself.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fss4%2Fmortygttdi%2F22062009060.jpg&hash=595190c8ac39983ef6b319fb6b18fefc22c92a53)

I wanted to put a proper shark fin on that would pick up the gps and gsm network so bought one again off ebay.de, it was off an A4 not got a pic yet but will get one up of that.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fss4%2Fmortygttdi%2FS1050262.jpg&hash=0b2f348b2701cf6859afb886a18111cc08309fc1)

Ill have to take a breather for now but will continue once I get home from work in the morning

If you lift the leather sack up :surprised: over the knob :scared: you will see a clip :innocent: like the one you get on the CV boot...release that and the g/knob will just lift up with abit of force,  easy enough.

Hi mate the bumper I got from ebay but it was a vw dealer just getting rid of old stock I think I paid £220 for the bumper and all the grills and inserts.

The back lights are not proper R32/ED30 lights but do look good,  Garth on the forum did them for me for a favour.

Title: Re: My golfs transformation...
Post by: mortygttdi on October 10, 2010, 06:54:54 pm
Damien Its a case of buying the new climate and surround then changing some wires

This is taken from a user called NorthernSky off VWNavi

Re: Climatronic on screen
I installed the unit and work as expected (mine is VW Jetta GLI 2007 and I did not needed to wire in pararell on Conector C and B)

Parts I needed:
1K0 858 069 M 1QB Trim
5K0 907 044 BT ZJU Climatronic Unit (5K0 907 044 CB ZJU with Heater button)
1K0 907 530 AD Can Gateway ('S' revision or later might work also)
3C8 937 049 AB Power Electrical Module (For compressor to work)

Optional:
1K0 907 659 Quality Sensor (optional)
1K0 971 939 C Holder (optional)
1J0 972 483 A Quality Sensor Conector (optional)
000 979 009 E Quality Sensor Wire X2

Climatronic Wiring
On A Connector (black) extract both; Pin 16 and Pin 20 and put Pin 16 on the place were Pin 20 was, leave the wire on Pin 20 loose (not connected to the harrnes) for later connect the Air Quality Sensor if needed.

If you have an older VW Model you will need as user mogwai pointed out this wiring to change:
Motors in parallel:
On C Connector (brown): Pin 7 connected to Pin 10 and Pin 8 connected to Pin 9
On B Connector (black): Pin 6 to Pin 7

Quality Sensor Wiring (optional):
On C Connector (black):
Pin 1 from Quality Sensor to Pin 20 which we replaced by Pin 16 on Climatronic
Pin 2 from Quality Sensor is Ground to Pin 19
Pin 3 from Quality Sensor to Pin 4 on Climatronic

YOU NEED TO MAKE THIS STEPS as lala30 pointed out (My compressor did not work until I performed the 2 step):

First Step: Basic settings: hold button AC + button straight blowing (third button from left). You will see both buttons leds blinking one after another..let them run till they come to the normal status. The mk6 climate works different to the mk5 climate they both read the data from the cars other modules but because the mk6 doesn't have its own readout it displays it on the RNS510.

Your car looks excellent mate. I reckon your front end is nicer than the GTI one now  :happy2:

How much do you reckon you could do the new climate controls (about everything needed) for? We spoken about it before but now that you'll done a trial run, I'm after mine being done. The one thing I don't like about my interior now is the climate displays. I presume it'll work on my RCD510?

Cheers Garth, basically the price is dependent on what you can pick the climate panel up for? But lets say for instance without the c/panel the surround is £30 from vw then the air quality sensor is £65 and the AQS bracket is about £1 plus some repair wires and plugs.

The climate panels are going for anywhere from £50 to £150 justthe luck of the draw.

Cheers Apollo

Hi Darren

Ed

Eddy nice to see you on here mate :happy2:, took your time though
The only time i got any fault codes was before i connected the 2 motors in parrellel? Once i connected them and got a new label file from Dana @ RT every thing has been fine...I have been doing some testing of the Air Quality Sensor but that seems to be working perfect aswell.

Rich cheers mate, I think in total its about £50 for the lights and connector and some repair wires

Hi Darren,

Can you tell me what the benefits are with the C version (the LED one) over my B version?

Is the screen brightness any better?   :popcornsoda:

I am not sure if everyone else's is the same but sometimes the display is quite dark. I did notice the little round sensor in the top right of the unit. When I shine a torch into it, the screen goes really bright. Just wish it would go brighter when there is no light. :sad1:

How much can you get a fully loaded LED version for mate?
Title: Re: My golfs transformation...
Post by: mortygttdi on October 12, 2010, 10:26:00 pm
Carlo the LED screen is miles better and high res so looks better, the brighness is not an issue and in fact i have mine set to the darker option in the display menu :happy2: thats how better it is my B version was always set to brighter. I can do the LED c version for £600 when they turn up that is?

Darren is that a GTi front bumper then? Is it the same as the GT later bumper just with different grills? I'd love the gti grille with the red stripe but have the GT lats rather than the honeycomb.... is that what you've done?

lol cant believe i didnt think to have a look for a build thread on your car, im the guy that sent you a pm about the climatronic, car is real nice, black when detailed is like glass,

just a few questions to ask you fitted

the air QUALITY sensor as you had the 2 motors for the air not one?

do i need to fit a AQS to mine, my car is a 2008 mk5 r32 with dual zone climate control, ac/auto/heated seats etc

also you said you got new labels for DANA at ross tech is the label meaning for the actaul climatronic in the central electrics

also do you have the function to message fault in vag-com as i read on vwnavi that only cars built from i think 2009 onwards wont get this error because of some controll unit

i get the impression you have 0 faults in vag-com

hope you dont mind me asking all these questions, thanks in advance

Hi daz yes its the later gt/gti front bumper with the GT grilles,  I did have the gti grilles in before but wanted the car looking more like a diesel so changed them to the GT grilles.

M44NTU-3.2 I have the AQS on mine and it does work fine but my recirc motors don't work right so I have ordered the new mk6 recirc flap and motor to replace my 2 motors to 1 motor.  You don't need to fit the AQS to get the climatronic to work?  every thing else works fine by just swapping the pins 16 on the big plug to pin 20.

DANA give me the new label files just so my VCDS see's the new climate panel properly.

thanks for the reply mate

yep i read somewhere that cars before 2007 had the 2 motors before from 2007 onwards vw changed them to 1 motor,.

so i dont really need the labels? only reason i ask is, dont want any errors, like to have 0 faults lol,

Bit of a tidy up, and also fitted the new duct for the recirc flap, it stopped working so I needed to change to the single motor that is on the newer mk5 and mk6 golfs.

Cheers guys :happy2: its not has bad has you might think, apart from stripping the bolt on stuff like the headunit, glove box and cluster etc, etc.  Its a few screws that hold the dash board in place, I struggled at first to pull the dash off but once the A pillars where off it just fell out

Actually had to rope the wife in to help me lift it out cos its quite heavy  , I can see why they strip them out for race use.

With all them wires it looks bad :surprised: but once they are all traced and taped up it doesn't look half has bad.  I extended the xenon controller wiring, plus re-routed the mic's for the bluetooth and voice control...

I started at about 10-11am and came in at around 7:30pm with just the armrest to put back in. I replaced about 10 missing screws in the dash and centre console :happy2:  and genuinely had no screws left over, in fact I need to go down to VW tomorrow to see if I can get some more to fill the ones missing.

Bit of a resurrection this one but with all this hardware will all the buttons on the wheel work and is the cruise stalk unaffected?
sorry to bring this up

i think all you need is a MK6 cruise control stalk to make it work (sourced from US site)

P.S: What is a "Version S Gateway"?

alright mate

just got a few probs hoping you can help me out with

fitted the newer climatronic to my car mkv r32 dsg 58 plate
fitting wasnt a problem, took out pin 16, chopped pin 20 in half and soldered pin 16 to pin 20
display worked striaght away, im pretty sure that the ac is working cos i get cold air when tested and i could hear the engine not change slighty when the ac button was pressed

i did a scan and brought up these faults, before the swap i had 0 faults so all these are new

Just to answer your question mate clear the faults on the gateway and your sparodic faults will clear, its cos you have had the climate panel disconnected...The fault on the climate is due to the missing labels in vcds?  which version are you using.

Absolutely lovely car mate!

Really admire all the interior mods you've done that bring that car to to a full spec machine!
Would love to do a lot of those mods as my GTI is kinda low spec in comparison to that.

You may be hearing from me more often... when i inevitably get stuck swapping interior stuff.

Also, at the start of the thread when you had the GTI bumper, the little red trim was white, seen a few people with this. How is it done? Painted or is there some place that sells differet coloured strips?

Cheers

Just thought I would move this up, Loads gone on in the past month or so. Well took it into VW and they messed the ECU up by doing an update, the compressor was turning off due to me having the mk6 climate but all sorted due now massive thanks to Kalu.

What a fantastic thread/car this is,
What is the cluster/clocks you have in currently??
Did you have any issues with them???
I don't even own a golf but after reading this I am seriously considering one for a second car :)

Fantastic!!!, :drinking:
I'm currently  transferring my09 cluster to my06 a3, but my local audi garage told me they will only code my keys and immobiliser if I buy clocks new from them,DOH!!!!,
I understand why completely, just so fecking frustrating,
My mate got our local audi authorised repairer to code his clocks 12months ago......
They are now a Hyundai garage and have NO audi hook ups!!!!  :sad1:

Snoopy the looms and every thing came from a member called Eddie_NL he has a thread in the for sale section.

Once you have every thing its just a matter of plugging the loom into the front footwell lights and then feeding the looms back to the underside of the seats and there is a cut out for them already the rest is self explanatory mate.

Hope that helps bud

Looking lovely Darren, very tempted to copy you with the Di-nov sill protectors.

Also very interested what H&R springs did you go for? I'm looking to raise my car up from Eibach Sportlines and your's looks spot on.

Any spacers on with the wheels?

No spacers either mate I was thinking about putting some 10mm one's on the back but not sure?

Yeah the H&R Cup springs sound about right. Yeah I was looking at 10mm spacers too. The rear axle is about 10mm narrower I think? What offset are ur CH's? Reps or kosher? Mine are ET45 but I think my next set of wheels will be ET 51. Def needing spaced at the back then.

Paul

If you don't mind my input Tonto. I've been in a few gti's with 'standard springs', 'Eibach Sportlines', and H&R's'.

I found the H&Rs quite abit harsher than standard, but awesome handling improvements, and the lower drop.

Eibachs (i have them) aren't that much different from factory in terms of 'harshness' (?), however I don't find the handling improvements as good as H&R, but are still a vast an improvement. + you get the drop.

All in all, I'd happily have any set on my car, but in hindsight, I wish I went for the H&Rs  :happy2:

I cannot speak for the guys with GTI's has I have the GT suspension on so it maybe a little harsher in the big boys toys

Small updates firstly I sorted my problems with the fuelling some burk had placed the fuel feed and return the wrong way on the in-tank fuel pump ****Thank you Rob Carter @ Leeds VW**** that guy found the problem.

Secondly I found a small knick in the  fuel line from the fuel filter to the HPFP so I decided to uprate the lines, still ongoing at the moment has i'm trying to find the right hose clips which I think Pirtek may have the solution.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fss4%2Fmortygttdi%2FS1050014-1.jpg&hash=26ca7b40b01eb06eb0aa3785123763b1b66683fb)

The other 2 lines and the engine lines will be done once the clips are sorted.

Now seen has my car is getting a bit quicker and been heavier at the front I'm starting to feel the GTI brakes are letting me down so bought some new calipers and I'm now part of the NQSBBK gang, just need fitting.

All nice and painted with high temp black, didn't want any bling just something subtle.

Cheers guys ive yet to do the rear calipers but they can wait till the weekend to be painted.

GTSport I'm on springs now and it doesn't scrape on anything unless the drive or road is at an odd angle? Speed bumps arn't a problem unless they are above normal height??

You should be fine mate.

Just need to get a new badge, a 70mm wheel center badge will be perfect :happy2:

Been over to Darkside Development to see Ryan and Scott, Ryan was at the new place getting it ready for the opening, but I spoke to Scott who is very helpful indeed.

Well soon to have the EGR valve and cooler off and they are also in talks with an American company for a SMF and clutch kit that is silent running so no noisey Sachs stuff.

Also looking at the 2260 turbo kit and custom manifold that Ryan has on his Jetta :happy2:

The service was due so had a coolant flush done £186 :scared: couldn't believe it but its not been done for god knows so money well spent, service was only £129 and my courtesy car was a brand new Scirocco Tdi bluemotion :jumping: beautiful car, nice to drive couldn't get used to the stop/start tech on it but the ACC was nice,

To be honest it feels more stable at higher speeds, I think its cos the vents are angled outwards towards the brakes rather than buffeting the air around the wishbones.

Ye a good clean is in order but just at the moment too busy with other peoples cars again :signLOL:

It has had a winter polish and seal so its okay for the moment

My new Southbend clutch and EGR delete is paid for now so just awaiting them :jumpmove:

Its not a massive problem with the BKD engine Andy, it dumps coolant into one of the cylinders on mine its cylinder 1,

A bit harder to start on a morning but performance wise its fine.

The new re-designed EGR delete from Darkside Development:

And whats been taken out you may ask, well all this, proper loads of space and it was proper easy to take out.

Jake the downside of NOT taking it off is a clogged up manifold, Intercooler and turbo, the benefits so out way the downsides but it does spool up better and feels much smoother on idle...

GTSport yes thats all the parts of the EGR system and its all going in the bin  :happy2:  :fighting:

So what are the downsides of removing the parts? whats the reason for all the parts to be there as egr is exhaust gas recirculation isnt it?

Just trying to see what removing it has done technically.

Thanks Neil

The EGR draws the hot gases from the exhaust and recirculates them to the front and back into the manifold...basically heating the engine up quicker.

The only problem is that the Nox gases mix with the soot from the engine and turn it into a tar like substance then once dry it carbonises like rock, Take the EGR out of the equation and all you get is the soot build up.

Next step is to sort the crankcase breather out maybe a catch can system or vent to atmosphere??

Yep crankcase breather from crankcase to inlet pipe the inlet pipe needs blocking and the crankcase needs venting either into a catch can or to atmo.

Unfortunately Jake I cannot fit until the new year :sad1: but will let you know,

If your wanting to do some big stuff on the Touran then you need to speak to Darkside Development has there Jetta is at 301bhp and 440lb ft torque at the moment that's without any additional water meth or larger cooler, I think they have an S3 cooler and alloy hard pipes.

Matto I believe the SMF is stronger and there's less chance of failure, DMF's are prone to failure due to having the spring dampener in instead of having them in the clutch plate.

I'm sure the experts can enlighten us further if they look here.

Interested to know whats the drive like once you've fitted that clutch. I'm considering buying their Stage 2 Endurance clutch, I use my car daily so didnt kno weather to get the daily drive or edurance just incase... Also if you don't mind me asking did you buy direct from southbend or darkside?

Which SMF is it Gez? The southbend has been developed to be silent aswell has smooth and strong, but we'll see once its fitted, by the way its supposed to be tones better than the sachs and helix clutches.

It's a Sachs one, doesn't bother me now that I am used to it - it's been fitted over a year, but anyone else that drives it notices it.

When I was speaking to Scott at Darkside he was saying the sachs smf was very noisey compared to the southbend version.

We'll see if the silent in the name lives upto what it says on the tin.

Ah right ok. I do take your word for it lol. It's just in this pic I recognise the egr on the right, egr cooler in the middle but the piece resting on the left of the cooler which would have a vac pipe to it looks like the asv. Looks very similar the the pd150 one.

I can see your thinking but thats all the cooler the thing attached to the cooler is the valve to let the hot gases from the exhaust into the EGR valve.

****small update****

Clutch now in after a lot of faffing about, DarksideDevelopment have been fantastic and my next upgrade will defo be there turbo kit.

Ryan found that the actuator rod was too short so the requested boost was not been met and it was over posting and going into limp mode! He wound it out a bit so it's now miles better boost comes in a little bit later but feels far smoother.

Nothing to we really but I'm sure it will not be long before my next mod!

does any body know if you can retro fit the more basic heater a/c control off the mk6 to the mk5?

Reference: http://www.my-gti.com/2513/volkswage...ostics-mark-vi (http://www.my-gti.com/2513/volkswage...ostics-mark-vi)

Second Step :Compresor Settings: Starting the engine and hold LONG-AC + heating rear window.Let it run till it comes to the normal status.

It says you need the 3C8 CECM but me personally I have a 3C0 937 049E and every thing works fine also bare in mind the surround is on back order at the moment,

Cheers

Darren
