Hi all only just found this site from one of Shaun's(182 blue) links so thought I would post pics of my GT diesel. Ive had the car for a little over a year and although still not happy with the current wheel choice im hoping that will be sorted soon...the rest of the car im happy with.
This is it when I first got it, it was std apart from the wheels, nappa leather & Mfd2 fitted.

Then I managed to get a very cheap front GT bumper from Hull VW so swapped that over
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.golfmkv.com%2Fforums%2Fattachment.php%3Fattachmentid%3D28873%26amp%3Bstc%3D1%26amp%3Bd%3D1216060342&hash=8fa8daeaecabe37e620c693820046ea9914e50d5)
Then came the side skirts rear bumper and exhaust and gloss window trims and wheels
So this is how it stood at the time with the new wheels on.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.golfmkv.com%2Fforums%2Fimages%2Fmygolf%2F1568%2FS1050204.JPG&hash=c1edf9d936fb2541a46631093dc23da2f058adf7)

But it didn't stop like that for long and amazingly shrunk into the ground and grew a chin

HI Darren,
It's Norbreck21a (Andrew) from over at UK-IV's. Always wondered what your ride was like - sweet, and black is definatley the quickest colour, and the 5 door is the only one to have (but then I'm biased) :happy2:
I was going to post some pics of my ride, but I don't think it can live with yours (is pretty much standard apart from 18's) :ashamed:
-
thats looking good mate. similar to mine, what have you lowered it with?

Thanks for the kind comments every one
Hi Andrew nice to see a few of the locals from MkIV on here :grouphug: by the way Andrew I got my laptop back and reloaded all the vag can-commander and vag-com back on and now got ETKA updated to 2009, I had to buy a new harddrive but it runs alot faster now with a clean install, ready to do your cluster swap.
JPC ive got the golf dropped over FK highsport silverline collies, they are wound down but need taking up a little bit cos im just catching speed bumps on the subframe ive just put some new 215/35/18 tyres so this makes it even worse :chicken:
Greenhouse that was the colour I was thinking of either that or similar to the M3 wheel colour.
:xmastree:

Yep just take the G/Knob off and cut roughly 1" off, i think any more and you carn't get the knob back on
Darren
Does it just un-screw? Never taken my knob off?
-
If you lift the leather sack up :surprised: over the knob :scared: you will see a clip :innocent: like the one you get on the CV boot...release that and the g/knob will just lift up with abit of force, easy enough.
Darren
-
did you have 2 buy an airbag for the steering wheel or did it come with it .
-
no it came with the airbag bud every thing was included in the sale, the only things ive bought are the new controller which is need to control the buttons and horn, and the slip ring which controls the steering angle sensor.

Thank you every one Jay the steering controller needs to be changed to the latest one I have 1K0 953 549 CH on order and that has to be used with the version C slip ring which I now have...Ive also fitted the version S gateway,

Did you do the facelift conversion yourself? How difficult is it?
Loving the work btw :notworthy:
-
Hi Karlos, yes did every thing on the car myself mate, not difficult just need to take your time and make sure you don't bend the a/c pipes or damage the rads.
Just 2 pics of the car the full xenon retro fit and the tinted back lights that Garth did for me, Cheers Garth :happy2:

hi mate nice car you got there how much did the tail lights cost you mate? and the front bumper from hull vw? cheers
Hi mate the bumper I got from ebay but it was a vw dealer just getting rid of old stock I think I paid £220 for the bumper and all the grills and inserts.
The back lights are not proper R32/ED30 lights but do look good, Garth on the forum did them for me for a favour.
Cheers
Darren

Very nice, it's looking good.

I've given up being surprised anymore about what you can do to these motors. Superb job as usual, and the old girl looks as young as ever, a real credit to you.
Now when are you going to get the lower half of the rear bumper painted
Take care mate.
-
Cheers guys :happy2:

I think we need to get a Vulcan to do a mind melt with Darren, that's the only way we will ever be as smart as him!
-
Hi Darren, how did you get the climate to display on the rns510?
-
Damien Its a case of buying the new climate and surround then changing some wires
This is taken from a user called NorthernSky off VWNavi
Re: Climatronic on screen
I installed the unit and work as expected (mine is VW Jetta GLI 2007 and I did not needed to wire in pararell on Conector C and B)
Parts I needed:
1K0 858 069 M 1QB Trim
5K0 907 044 BT ZJU Climatronic Unit (5K0 907 044 CB ZJU with Heater button)
1K0 907 530 AD Can Gateway ('S' revision or later might work also)
3C8 937 049 AB Power Electrical Module (For compressor to work)
Optional:
1K0 907 659 Quality Sensor (optional)
1K0 971 939 C Holder (optional)
1J0 972 483 A Quality Sensor Conector (optional)
000 979 009 E Quality Sensor Wire X2
Climatronic Wiring
On A Connector (black) extract both; Pin 16 and Pin 20 and put Pin 16 on the place were Pin 20 was, leave the wire on Pin 20 loose (not connected to the harrnes) for later connect the Air Quality Sensor if needed.
If you have an older VW Model you will need as user mogwai pointed out this wiring to change:
Motors in parallel:
On C Connector (brown): Pin 7 connected to Pin 10 and Pin 8 connected to Pin 9
On B Connector (black): Pin 6 to Pin 7
Quality Sensor Wiring (optional):
On C Connector (black):
Pin 1 from Quality Sensor to Pin 20 which we replaced by Pin 16 on Climatronic
Pin 2 from Quality Sensor is Ground to Pin 19
Pin 3 from Quality Sensor to Pin 4 on Climatronic
YOU NEED TO MAKE THIS STEPS as lala30 pointed out (My compressor did not work until I performed the 2 step):
First Step: Basic settings: hold button AC + button straight blowing (third button from left). You will see both buttons leds blinking one after another..let them run till they come to the normal status. Reference: http://www.my-gti.com/2513/volkswage...ostics-mark-vi (http://www.my-gti.com/2513/volkswage...ostics-mark-vi)
Second Step :Compresor Settings: Starting the engine and hold LONG-AC + heating rear window.Let it run till it comes to the normal status.

It says you need the 3C8 CECM but me personally I have a 3C0 937 049E and every thing works fine also bare in mind the surround is on back order at the moment,
Cheers
Darren
-
So it only works with the new style climate unit? :sad1:
-
The mk6 climate works different to the mk5 climate they both read the data from the cars other modules but because the mk6 doesn't have its own readout it displays it on the RNS510.
Darren
-
Ah, got you mate.
Shame realy..
-
Just read this whole thred and that car is awesome. Just like i'd love my GT to be, in time i suppose!! ha ha, good work pal :congrats:
-
Cheers Daz its still not finished but not far off
Darren
-
Your car looks excellent mate. I reckon your front end is nicer than the GTI one now :happy2:
How much do you reckon you could do the new climate controls (about everything needed) for? We spoken about it before but now that you'll done a trial run, I'm after mine being done. The one thing I don't like about my interior now is the climate displays. I presume it'll work on my RCD510?
:drinking:
-
Good work Darren,
The car looks great and that mk6 climate panel finishes it off nicely!
Lee.
-
Cheers Garth, basically the price is dependent on what you can pick the climate panel up for? But lets say for instance without the c/panel the surround is £30 from vw then the air quality sensor is £65 and the AQS bracket is about £1 plus some repair wires and plugs.
The climate panels are going for anywhere from £50 to £150 justthe luck of the draw.
Cheers Apollo
Darren
-
Hi Darren
Since you have retrofitted the mk6 climate control unit have you had any fault logged?
Ed
-
Great as always darren, and I like the way your always do everything properly!! Will look forward to the door light how too that I like and I imagine cheap!
-
Hi Darren
Since you have retrofitted the mk6 climate control unit have you had any fault logged?
Ed
Eddy nice to see you on here mate :happy2:, took your time though
The only time i got any fault codes was before i connected the 2 motors in parrellel? Once i connected them and got a new label file from Dana @ RT every thing has been fine...I have been doing some testing of the Air Quality Sensor but that seems to be working perfect aswell.
Rich cheers mate, I think in total its about £50 for the lights and connector and some repair wires
Darren
-
Hi Darren
Since you have retrofitted the mk6 climate control unit have you had any fault logged?
Ed
Hey ed welcome to the golf money appreciation society
let the extra modding commence

Hi Darren,
Can you tell me what the benefits are with the C version (the LED one) over my B version?
Is the screen brightness any better? :popcornsoda:
I am not sure if everyone else's is the same but sometimes the display is quite dark. I did notice the little round sensor in the top right of the unit. When I shine a torch into it, the screen goes really bright. Just wish it would go brighter when there is no light. :sad1:
How much can you get a fully loaded LED version for mate?
-
Carlo the LED screen is miles better and high res so looks better, the brighness is not an issue and in fact i have mine set to the darker option in the display menu :happy2: thats how better it is my B version was always set to brighter. I can do the LED c version for £600 when they turn up that is?
Darren
-
Ok Darren, I will write to Santa and tell him its an LED C version for me this year. :happy2:
-
Darren is that a GTi front bumper then? Is it the same as the GT later bumper just with different grills? I'd love the gti grille with the red stripe but have the GT lats rather than the honeycomb.... is that what you've done?
Cheers pal
-
lol cant believe i didnt think to have a look for a build thread on your car, im the guy that sent you a pm about the climatronic, car is real nice, black when detailed is like glass,
just a few questions to ask you fitted
the air QUALITY sensor as you had the 2 motors for the air not one?
do i need to fit a AQS to mine, my car is a 2008 mk5 r32 with dual zone climate control, ac/auto/heated seats etc
also you said you got new labels for DANA at ross tech is the label meaning for the actaul climatronic in the central electrics
also do you have the function to message fault in vag-com as i read on vwnavi that only cars built from i think 2009 onwards wont get this error because of some controll unit
i get the impression you have 0 faults in vag-com
hope you dont mind me asking all these questions, thanks in advance
-
Hi daz yes its the later gt/gti front bumper with the GT grilles, I did have the gti grilles in before but wanted the car looking more like a diesel so changed them to the GT grilles.
M44NTU-3.2 I have the AQS on mine and it does work fine but my recirc motors don't work right so I have ordered the new mk6 recirc flap and motor to replace my 2 motors to 1 motor. You don't need to fit the AQS to get the climatronic to work? every thing else works fine by just swapping the pins 16 on the big plug to pin 20.
DANA give me the new label files just so my VCDS see's the new climate panel properly.
Darren
-
thanks for the reply mate
yep i read somewhere that cars before 2007 had the 2 motors before from 2007 onwards vw changed them to 1 motor,.
so i dont really need the labels? only reason i ask is, dont want any errors, like to have 0 faults lol,
-
Car look ace mate. Slammed on those wheel too
-
Cheers James
Bit of a tidy up, and also fitted the new duct for the recirc flap, it stopped working so I needed to change to the single motor that is on the newer mk5 and mk6 golfs.
The offending part

Seeing a golf in that state makes me feel very nauseous. Better you than me.
-
Hi Darren,
Great work, where did you pick up all the knowledge? Are you an auto electrician?
-
You mad mad fool Darren :congrats:
I know you said the CAN gateways were hard to get at, but that's a bit extreme don't you think
Top work matey, rather you than me though
Andrew
-
Cheers guys :happy2: its not has bad has you might think, apart from stripping the bolt on stuff like the headunit, glove box and cluster etc, etc. Its a few screws that hold the dash board in place, I struggled at first to pull the dash off but once the A pillars where off it just fell out
Actually had to rope the wife in to help me lift it out cos its quite heavy  , I can see why they strip them out for race use.
With all them wires it looks bad :surprised: but once they are all traced and taped up it doesn't look half has bad. I extended the xenon controller wiring, plus re-routed the mic's for the bluetooth and voice control...
I started at about 10-11am and came in at around 7:30pm with just the armrest to put back in. I replaced about 10 missing screws in the dash and centre console :happy2: and genuinely had no screws left over, in fact I need to go down to VW tomorrow to see if I can get some more to fill the ones missing.
Darren
-
you really was looking for that £1 coin you dropped :signLOL:excellent work Darren
-
Crazy fool!! :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Darren..you must be a very patient well..utterly patient and Insane guy..would never even contemplate doing what you did..suppose with your expertise it's probably second nature..so much wiring will give me nightmares..
-
Thank you every one Jay the steering controller needs to be changed to the latest one I have 1K0 953 549 CH on order and that has to be used with the version C slip ring which I now have...Ive also fitted the version S gateway,
Darren
Bit of a resurrection this one but with all this hardware will all the buttons on the wheel work and is the cruise stalk unaffected?
sorry to bring this up
i think all you need is a MK6 cruise control stalk to make it work (sourced from US site)
.........
Love what you have done with your car Darren, that climate control unit looks awesome, i sooo need one of those RNS 510's in my life lol
P.S: What is a "Version S Gateway"?
need some advice so PM on it's way :happy2:

These are awesome seats I don't know how I've held off for so long in not getting some.
Cheers
Darren
-
You're in danger of having a half Mk5 half Mk6 Daz!
Top work as ever :happy2:
I hear you on that one, that's the only thing putting me off the TDI Vags, the seats are poor and look dull generally speaking. I like the GTD's you've dropped in, bit more lively.
-
Nice one matey! I was wondering if you'd got them in yet! They look great - remember to climb up and in.. and up and out! :happy2:
You'll have to keep it a bit longer now..
What's next then?
-
Cheers Pete and Paul :happy2:
Paul will be looking more into hybrid turbo's, due a clutch aswell so need to start saving now
Darren
-
Nice ...... what can't you make fit into a Mk 5 Golf??
-
Cheers Pete and Paul :happy2:
Paul will be looking more into hybrid turbo's, due a clutch aswell so need to start saving now
Darren
am putting a hybrid turbo in mine next year as well Daz..did yours have leather seats in before
-
Yes Andy leathers in before but I was getting a bad back on long journeys and much prefered the jacaro material in the new golf especially with it been for the GTD diesel.
Ill get a loom sorted for you and get up to do that bluetooth some time soon mate.
Darren
-
Thought you had leather in yours..i was getting a bad back, then i realised mine has the lumbar suppport function :ashamed:.Cheers Daz looking forward to the new mod in my car
-
The lumbar just didn't seem to do much help, but the GTD/GTI seats have the higher lumber at the front of the seat and the bolsters are larger I'm not moving and twisting as much :happy2:
Darren
-
you have been doing some miles later thou hopefully the new seats will help...the shop that was going to fit the interface for my alpine h/u has closed down,if i get the alpine interface can you fit it at the same time...here is a link to it
http://www.dvbcaraudio.co.uk/alpine-apfd100vw-vehicle-display-swrc-interface-p-5689.html
-
Darren they are nice seats, well worth the money and they give more support
Top job

Can do Andy.
Cheers Ed they where a steel at £475 buy it now. The guy had bought a GTD but prefered the leather so changed it.
-
Darren what a great set of seats they are a def steal at that price.
hard to tell with the pictures but i bet they look great in the flesh mate :happy2:
you always seem to fall on your feet with these bargains
scott
-
that is a steal at that price mate and they are some lovely looking seats right there, good on ya mate, bang up to date.....

Just to answer your question mate clear the faults on the gateway and your sparodic faults will clear, its cos you have had the climate panel disconnected...The fault on the climate is due to the missing labels in vcds? which version are you using.
Darren
-
ok will try that mate, im using the lastest version of vcds 10.6.2
just downloaded it today, at first vcds wasnt picking up the climatronic but after the update it picked it up, ill try clearing the faults one by one in each controller, also the function msg fault do you know how to get rid of it? did u get the labels from ross tech?
thanks
-
just to say thanks morty, cleared faults like you said, now no faults except the missiing function which im hoping youll tell me how to fix it, thanks alot mate!!!!

Absolutely lovely car mate!
Really admire all the interior mods you've done that bring that car to to a full spec machine!
Would love to do a lot of those mods as my GTI is kinda low spec in comparison to that.
You may be hearing from me more often... when i inevitably get stuck swapping interior stuff.
Also, at the start of the thread when you had the GTI bumper, the little red trim was white, seen a few people with this. How is it done? Painted or is there some place that sells differet coloured strips?
Cheers
-
Painted.
-
Love this motor!! bang tidy :happy2:
What's the offset and tyre size on your CH reps?
-
Really nice looking car, love the mods you've done so far! Really liked the grey Lambo wheels against the black car but your newer CH reps really suit the car!
-
Bit of a revival thread but thank you guys,
Mintveedub the ch reps are ET46 5x112 and the tyres I had on in some of the pics where 215-35-18 but I now have on 225-40-18 toyo px4
Darren
-
Cheers Morty, Iv'e just sent for CH reps with 225/40/18 tyres. Do you have any recent pics with the 225/40/18 tyres? :happy2:
Cheers,
Kenny
-
Ill get some at the weekend mate

Can't believe you're selling. You really have transformed the car into something special.
If you do decide to set back to standard, I'd be interested in some of those parts! :happy2:
-

They are now a Hyundai garage and have NO audi hook ups!!!! :sad1:

Snoopy the looms and every thing came from a member called Eddie_NL he has a thread in the for sale section.
Once you have every thing its just a matter of plugging the loom into the front footwell lights and then feeding the looms back to the underside of the seats and there is a cut out for them already the rest is self explanatory mate.
Hope that helps bud
Darren :happy2:
-
Thanks Darren, :happy2:
I noticed the cutouts when i hovered the car at the weekend.
-
is it possible to fit cruise control to my car with the mk6 steering wheel on--if so do you know the part number :happy2:
-
Andy if you just ask the parts guy for cruise control stalk for your car its all the same one now apart from late 2010 cars that use a different stalk layout.

Looks a good! Like the idea with the carbon wrap!
-
thats lush... a true inspiration ;)
-
Looking lovely Darren, very tempted to copy you with the Di-nov sill protectors.
Also very interested what H&R springs did you go for? I'm looking to raise my car up from Eibach Sportlines and your's looks spot on.
Any spacers on with the wheels?
-
Cheers bud, not sure which H&R springs they are although it does say Cup Springs if that means anything??
No spacers either mate I was thinking about putting some 10mm one's on the back but not sure?
Darren
-
Where did you get your carbon vinyl from? Thinking of doing my sills as iv got the lockwood protectors too....
-
Yeah the H&R Cup springs sound about right. Yeah I was looking at 10mm spacers too. The rear axle is about 10mm narrower I think? What offset are ur CH's? Reps or kosher? Mine are ET45 but I think my next set of wheels will be ET 51. Def needing spaced at the back then.
-

Darren

Looking good Darren :happy2:
-
looking good, the carbon wrap i've done a few things, its easier to mould warm but with tight turns or oval badges its very hard not to crease it
-
Cheers guys, I will be trying my hand at a couple of other things with the wrap :happy2: probably just the light switch surround and gear gator surround
Darren
-
looks good that Darren :happy2:
-
Thank you Andy :happy2:
Darren
-
Looking good that mate ! great minds think alike ! i made sill protectors a couple of weeks ago to cover a few scratches

Looks really well Darren, how do you find the h&r's for comfort? Much different from stock? Amazing build thread by the way!
Paul

Looks really well Darren, how do you find the h&r's for comfort? Much different from stock? Amazing build thread by the way!
Paul
If you don't mind my input Tonto. I've been in a few gti's with 'standard springs', 'Eibach Sportlines', and H&R's'.
I found the H&Rs quite abit harsher than standard, but awesome handling improvements, and the lower drop.
Eibachs (i have them) aren't that much different from factory in terms of 'harshness' (?), however I don't find the handling improvements as good as H&R, but are still a vast an improvement. + you get the drop.
All in all, I'd happily have any set on my car, but in hindsight, I wish I went for the H&Rs :happy2:
HTH
-
Cheers guys, Paul the comfort is very good a bit like standard but with some firmness thrown in.
I cannot speak for the guys with GTI's has I have the GT suspension on so it maybe a little harsher in the big boys toys
Darren
-
You have done a great job on the wheels and the car looks better and probs drives better on the H&R springs
-
thanks for the replies keano and morty, definately going to invest in a set :happy2:
-
Got any more pictures of the stance with the springs?
-
Just had a catch up with this Daz and glad to hear your keeping the soot chucker! :happy2:
She's looking very well and I can't blame you for keeping her, what else could give you the performance, comfort and economy for that kind of money?!?!
Keep up the good work fella! :drinking:

Seriously Darren when are you setting up your own garage?
You have customers waiting, I would bring my car to you for everything :happy2:

You are my saviour! Think iv made my mind up on these springs now! Would get coilovers and go lower but the roads around here are pretty pants!
-
Same here mate Leeds has some of the worst roads in Yorkshire, I cannot believe the amount we pay in road tax and the roads are still a bag of balls.
Darren :happy2:

-
Carbon wrapping looks fantastic Darren :happy2:

Small updates firstly I sorted my problems with the fuelling some burk had placed the fuel feed and return the wrong way on the in-tank fuel pump ****Thank you Rob Carter @ Leeds VW**** that guy found the problem.
Secondly I found a small knick in the fuel line from the fuel filter to the HPFP so I decided to uprate the lines, still ongoing at the moment has i'm trying to find the right hose clips which I think Pirtek may have the solution.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fss4%2Fmortygttdi%2FS1050014-1.jpg&hash=26ca7b40b01eb06eb0aa3785123763b1b66683fb)

The other 2 lines and the engine lines will be done once the clips are sorted.
Now seen has my car is getting a bit quicker and been heavier at the front I'm starting to feel the GTI brakes are letting me down so bought some new calipers and I'm now part of the NQSBBK gang, just need fitting.
All nice and painted with high temp black, didn't want any bling just something subtle.

Slightly off topic but im lowering my car this weekend and have just fitted an edition 30 spitter - do you have any issues with yours catching on speed bumps or drives etc? Yours looks pretty low
-
very nice Darren--have you been reading my mind as i ave been looking into these for a while :signLOL:
-
Looking good Darren  :congrats:
-
Cheers guys ive yet to do the rear calipers but they can wait till the weekend to be painted.
GTSport I'm on springs now and it doesn't scrape on anything unless the drive or road is at an odd angle? Speed bumps arn't a problem unless they are above normal height??
You should be fine mate.
Darren
might just do the wheels red now

Well soon to have the EGR valve and cooler off and they are also in talks with an American company for a SMF and clutch kit that is silent running so no noisey Sachs stuff.
Also looking at the 2260 turbo kit and custom manifold that Ryan has on his Jetta :happy2:

I remember doing the clutch on my old mk4 Ibiza Cupra... 2 axel stands and 2 trolly jacks on the drive, took 2 of us about 8hr
ED30's clutch done on the bro inlaws ramps, sooooooo much easier :jumpmove:

Darren

To be honest it feels more stable at higher speeds, I think its cos the vents are angled outwards towards the brakes rather than buffeting the air around the wishbones.
Ye a good clean is in order but just at the moment too busy with other peoples cars again :signLOL:
It has had a winter polish and seal so its okay for the moment
My new Southbend clutch and EGR delete is paid for now so just awaiting them :jumpmove:

:notworthy: hope you don't need to drive it till then
Its not a massive problem with the BKD engine Andy, it dumps coolant into one of the cylinders on mine its cylinder 1,
A bit harder to start on a morning but performance wise its fine.

Couple of pics for you guys who are interested.
The new re-designed EGR delete from Darkside Development:

Looks very interesting Darren, any downsides to these mods?
What's on the plusside of this?
What budget should we look at? :drinking:
-
Nice one Darren - Looks well made.
Have you noticed any benefits yet or is it too early to tell?
Is all that lot thats come out to do with the EGR?! :surprised:
This will be something i will be doing to mine, along with various other bits!
:happy2:
-
Jake the downside of NOT taking it off is a clogged up manifold, Intercooler and turbo, the benefits so out way the downsides but it does spool up better and feels much smoother on idle...
GTSport yes thats all the parts of the EGR system and its all going in the bin  :happy2: :fighting:

Sorry mate not doing anything at the moment got too much on with the family but after xmas dont mind sorting things out.
Darren
-
Looks really good Darren! :congrats: :congrats:
I bet you could give most of us petrol lads a run for our money now with that beast :happy2:
-
So what are the downsides of removing the parts? whats the reason for all the parts to be there as egr is exhaust gas recirculation isnt it?
Just trying to see what removing it has done technically.
Thanks Neil
-
Wow this looks like a great update for my diesel now!!!
all fitted expertly by yourself mate well done it looks fantastic :congrats:
and very clean
scott :happy2:
-
The EGR draws the hot gases from the exhaust and recirculates them to the front and back into the manifold...basically heating the engine up quicker.
The only problem is that the Nox gases mix with the soot from the engine and turn it into a tar like substance then once dry it carbonises like rock, Take the EGR out of the equation and all you get is the soot build up.
Next step is to sort the crankcase breather out maybe a catch can system or vent to atmosphere??
Darren
-
Nice little mod. I had the inlet manifold off on my mk4 PD150 and saw the effects of what the EGR does. Absolutely caked in crap.
-
Still to take my manifold off Matto but will do that when its warmer :happy2: at least Ill stop any further build up.
Darren
-
My understanding is they only have one engine breather and that's on the rocker cover,or ave I got it wrong
-
Yep crankcase breather from crankcase to inlet pipe the inlet pipe needs blocking and the crankcase needs venting either into a catch can or to atmo.
Darren

I got this delivered today, came from Portugal only ordered last thursday :surprised:

Thanks for the comments Ajay :happy2:
The fogs will fit but will not be a perfect fit,

Darren

And nowing you you are already in the process of fitting it right? :happy2:
Lokking forward to hearing your impressions as ours needs shifting aswell :drinking:
-
Unfortunately Jake I cannot fit until the new year :sad1: but will let you know,
If your wanting to do some big stuff on the Touran then you need to speak to Darkside Development has there Jetta is at 301bhp and 440lb ft torque at the moment that's without any additional water meth or larger cooler, I think they have an S3 cooler and alloy hard pipes.
http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/jetta-mk5-2-0-16v-tdi-bkd/ (http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/jetta-mk5-2-0-16v-tdi-bkd/)

One mean soot chucker
-
Car booked in for clutch doing a week on Monday :happy2:
Darren
-
Bet you can't wait :driver:
Do you need to upgrade the flywheel too?
-
The kit that I bought is the clutch and single mass fly wheel :happy2:
-
What difference does it make running the smf as opposed to dmf? Just abit more vibration?
-
Matto I believe the SMF is stronger and there's less chance of failure, DMF's are prone to failure due to having the spring dampener in instead of having them in the clutch plate.
I'm sure the experts can enlighten us further if they look here.
Darren
-
I thought that would be one of the reasons. I know the mk4's were prone for the same problem. Thought they'd have got it sorted on the mk5.
-
This clutch kits is also rated to 400lb ft so will be enough for what my golf is putting out.
Darren
-
Hay morty
Interested to know whats the drive like once you've fitted that clutch. I'm considering buying their Stage 2 Endurance clutch, I use my car daily so didnt kno weather to get the daily drive or edurance just incase... Also if you don't mind me asking did you buy direct from southbend or darkside?
-
Got a smf in my Jetta Tdi and is more noticeably juddery especially from cold but it is stronger so handles the power with no slipping like the dmf.

Ill let you know once its fitted mate, I bought through Darkside, I was on the group buy they was doing. I go over to see Scott and Ryan has its not too far from me which is quite good,
Darren

Which SMF is it Gez? The southbend has been developed to be silent aswell has smooth and strong, but we'll see once its fitted, by the way its supposed to be tones better than the sachs and helix clutches.
-
It's a Sachs one, doesn't bother me now that I am used to it - it's been fitted over a year, but anyone else that drives it notices it.
-
When I was speaking to Scott at Darkside he was saying the sachs smf was very noisey compared to the southbend version.
We'll see if the silent in the name lives upto what it says on the tin.
Darren
-
:congrats: :congrats:
What you have managed to change on this car is amazing :happy2:
Incoming pm for some mk5 bits doing please :happy2:
-
Have been considering an egr delete myself. I thought it retained the asv but lookin at your bits for the bin it doesn't. I got the impression it fitted between the manifold and asv.
-

Yep I still have the Anti Shudder Valve in place its just the EGR valve and EGR cooler in the the pic.
-

Ah right ok. I do take your word for it lol. It's just in this pic I recognise the egr on the right, egr cooler in the middle but the piece resting on the left of the cooler which would have a vac pipe to it looks like the asv. Looks very similar the the pd150 one.
-
I can see your thinking but thats all the cooler the thing attached to the cooler is the valve to let the hot gases from the exhaust into the EGR valve.
Darren
-
Thanks for clearing that up :happy2:
-
****small update****
Clutch now in after a lot of faffing about, DarksideDevelopment have been fantastic and my next upgrade will defo be there turbo kit.
Ryan found that the actuator rod was too short so the requested boost was not been met and it was over posting and going into limp mode! He wound it out a bit so it's now miles better boost comes in a little bit later but feels far smoother.
Nothing to we really but I'm sure it will not be long before my next mod!
Darren
-
Finally the end my car will be in the forsale section very soon :happy2:
THE END
-
:sad1: :sad1: Sad to see it go Darren. It's been the inspiration for a lot of diesel modders on here, especially me. Stick around mate, and hopefully you get back into the VW soon. :happy2:

These will be my mode of transport now the full sus is my weekend toy and the road hybrid is my work horse, all out to save money in the long term for the house move :innocent:
Then either mk6 GTI or S3 will be on the drive
-
Sorry to see this go best of luck with the new house and any future plans.
-
sorry to ask Darren but what was the spec of the cr hybrid turbo on your car--did it have a part number
-
Helluva lot of work gone into some Awesome OEM++ modding. The lucky buyer is gonna get a corker! Wish I could afford it for SWMBO
-
Cheers Mike
Andy the turbo was CR's stage 2 GT1756 not sure on the part number
Darren
-
Such a shame to see this go Darren. Hope you have something nice tp replace it :happy2:
-
such an awesome mk5 you have there mate. wish I could afford to buy it.
-
does any body know if you can retro fit the more basic heater a/c control off the mk6 to the mk5?
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.my-gti.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2Fvolkswagen_climatronic_diagnostics.jpg&hash=89dab1fa7c3ffca0800f326b54e0500909021b61)
It says you need the 3C8 CECM but me personally I have a 3C0 937 049E and every thing works fine also bare in mind the surround is on back order at the moment,
Cheers
Darren
