Recently my car was nudged in a car park whilst in park. There was no external damage, But it hesitated going into reverse, however it did go in at the 3rd attempt. Ever since im now getting a high pitched rotary squeak on lift off. But not when its changing gear. Been to VW main dealer for insurance claim they quoted for new gearbox, but their insurance isn't playing ball. Is there anything simple it could be, before I go spending lots of money!
-
I'd get a proper diagnosis from a gearbox specialist. VW suggesting a new gearbox straightaway is ridiculous.
-
My thoughts exactly. Im still fighting the insurance at the moment. If I have to pay myself I'll definitely be doing that.
-
Could just be the Parking Lock (Pawl) that has been damaged. VW should still diagnose it properly. Probably suggest a new engine if it ran out of fuel... :rolleye:
-
I sorted this in the end. I changed the PCV for the latest revision and it cured the noise imediately. Wasnt the gearbox at all.
-
Good news. Good on you for updating the thread with the outcome. It'll help somebody in the future.
-
Im certainly glad its sorted.
-
That was scary lol glad it's sorted as insurance companies hate paying out.

Very true. My mk4 got side swipped by a Polish Lorry on the A14 two weeks ago, they're still not admitting liability.

Hope she gets well soon mate. also hope that idiot get done for it. There's usually cctv on most roads now??? have you tried finding out from the local council? highways agency for video footage?.
-
Unfortunately not, finally got the payment for the right off, but still no admission of liability. AXA on AXA though, so I think theyre trying to play silly games.
-
Hope you got what you wanted?.
I never allow idiots to blame me when it's their fault ad it's happened a few times obey the last 7 years. two x di**heads who thought they'd play game with me but with a stern letter my insurance accepted it wasn't my fault both times.

They tried to take my excess and remaining premium from my settlement but I soon put them straight. sheeps cnuts
