Hello all,
I have a 55 plate gti that has permanently live 12v sockets and as the title says I would like to change the 12v cigarette lighter sockets (front and rear) to only have power when the ignition is on. I have read many many posts and cant seem to find an answer or how to. Does anyone have a solution or how to guide?
Cheers

No help here, but aren't they supposed to be ignition live only? Mine are.

I've got an 05 as well and mine seem to be permanently live. Just woke up this morning and remembered I had left a USB adapter in all night and went to unplug it now and the light was lit up on it. It is rather annoying to have to remember to unplug anything when getting out of the car at the end of the day.

After everything I've read it seems that only the 05 models and some early 06 have permanently live.

It is a bit of a pain having to unplug things after every journey but my dash cam stays lit up like a Christmas tree and after forgetting to unplug it my car has been targeted by thieves and now after replacing my registration plates it looks like I may have to replace my driver door

Having the same problem myself.
Anybody discovered a work around for this since?
Ideally need to make the socket an ignition live.

The hardest task will be finding a switched live in the same area. When you do you can either splice the cables or make another plug up with repair wires.
You might have to remove all the bits in the area and have a poke around with a multi meter to find it.
I'd probably look at the heater controls first, they'll have switched power and are reasonably close.

Ideally start at the fuse box. I think the charger sockets have their own fuse, so you could look at moving the connectors to a spare slot with a switched live on the fuse box.

i have just pulled the fuse for the 12v and used a piggy back fuse from a spare ignition live and feed it in that way works fine
2 min fix and does not mess with cars wiring
would post a pic but will not let me
if you want a pic pm me your email and i will send

Hi there I've just joined the forum and it says I don't have enough posts to pm you but am really interested into how you have done this. Any help would be great. Thanks.
