Title: Intake with keeping engine cover?
Post by: shoaybmakda on July 05, 2015, 01:14:13 pm
Hi all

Tried searching but can't seem to find any threads relating to this. I'm looking to get a intake fitted on my car but I don't really want to loose the engine cover (just don't like the look of everything being on display when I open the bonnet - quite like it covered up).

Is it possible to get a intake fitted without cutting or loosing the engine cover? Or am I going to have to loose the cover to get a decent intake on?

Any recommendations? Don't want one that makes my car sound too boy racer-ish?

Thanks

There's a company called Rade Customs based in Ashton Under Lyne Manchester. They do hydrodipping and have been featured in a couple of mags lately for the work they do.

A mate of mine is in the same position as you and the best he's come up with so far is taking the engine cover to them and they will modify it so it will fit with an Intake but also do a custom hydro dip on it (pretty much any design) for £100 all in.

I think it's a good deal and will look unique too.

Just fit a panel filter if you don't want to hear that waste gate flutter.

Just buy a Audi TTS engine cover and it will look perfect, here's mine.

Thanks for the replies all. @sanj (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=4594) how did you manage to get the Audi logo off the cover? Engine bay looks a lot cleaner too  :happy2:

If you don't want to lose your standard engine cover all together the you could cut it to fit an aftermarket intake. Would be a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a tts intake  :happy2:

@robmcclel (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10002) that's what I was thinking last night laying in bed  :signLOL:

Unless I can pick up a cheap mk5 gti cover and keep my one as a spare in case I ever decide to go back to stock. The tts one does look lovely just don't want it having the Audi logo.

That's probably your best bet, try a breakers yard see how much they want for one. Only other option is Awesome GTi sell a Neuspeed carbon fibre engine cover but it's £299 so you'll need to have deep pockets  :rolleye:
