Title: Rear brake guards
Post by: suave on July 06, 2015, 07:41:07 pm
Folks
Is there any latest info or thoughts on whether or not I need the rear brake guard on my stock GTI?
Starting to rattle pretty badly but don't want the hassle of removing the bearing to have a new one fitted. Any safety issue with me just removing this tin guard?
Thanks

Mine went to. No need to remove bearing. I just removed the rear wheel and cut it off with tin snips. No side effects so far 5k later.

If you unbolt the caliper, you can remove the bolts and take it off completely. I'd recommend it as they're of no real world benefit in the UK, and will eventually rot through and fall off, probably while driving which is dangerous.
