What's recommended and how much?
I was thinking castrol edge 5w 30 or can anyone recommend anything better? Petronas is 50% off on ecp

Don't even think about using engine oil in the gearbox unless you want to kill it! Suggest a little research before doing this job is in order...

I'm sure someone on here will tell you which grade you need, or use the search feature to dig up past discussions.

Just changed my gearbox oil last weekend.
You need 75w-90 oil and it takes approximately 2.3L to fil . I used vw g60 in my ed30 which I ordered from here:

Hope this helps you.

I don't recommend you do this. Engine oil is most likely going to destroy your gearbox. Better go for the cheapest gearbox oil than good engine one. by the way that was how my son destroyed my first golf. Adding to the fact that he poured engine oil into the gearbox he also poured the gearbox one into the engine, in one word that car had no chances :). I am not mad at him now but back then was ready to give that 24 year old ass an whooping. Better buy suitable oil and ask for advice at specialized stores like https://transmissioncoolerguide.com/how-to-check-transmission-fluid/

I used genuine gearbox oil purchased from here:

As mentioned above you will need approx 2.3L or 3 bottles.

You normally get a warning banner when exhuming dusty old threads
As an alternative to the VW stuff, Redline MTL 75w/80 or MT-LV 70w/75 works well in these gearboxes :happy2:
