Have had the same problem after the car remap, used NGK 2667 BKR7EIX before, bought new ones one week ago together with NGK coil pack the red one and I'm really happy with it. You can't go wrong with NGK.

The OEM ones are made by TRW.  You can get red powdercoated TRW ones for similar price to refurbs.
I replaced both my rear calipers with these last year.

Rear calipers are a common failpoint in the Mk5. They like to seize up, especially if left sitting for longer periods of time or being exposed to the elements.

Yes I agree, probably a seized / seizing caliper, common problem, I wouldn't bother trying to refurb it yourself, get a refurbed caliper from a reputable supplier.

Mk5 General Area / Diagnosing issue with rear caliper

Hi chaps,

I'm not swimming in cash so would really appreciate some advice on correctly diagnosing my rear nearside caliper issues so I don't fire the parts cannon at it.

This is the offside, which I think is good and the pad sweep on the disc is nice and clean:

This is the nearside which I think is the offending side, the pad sweep on the disk is not clean and looks like something is stuck:

Taking the handbrake off this morning, it was clear it was still stuck on the disk as when I tried to pull away there was a thunk as the pad released a bit from the disk as I reversed out.
If you look at my photos you can also clearly see that the sweep of the pad on the disc is not clean and it is not seating properly, suggesting something is stuck, I'm just not sure if it is dodgy handbrake cables, dodgy handbrake mechanism on the caliper or the caliper piston itself being seized up.  Is there an easy way to diagnose which it is?  I know I probably need discs and pads soon anyway on the rear which is not a problem, but if I can avoid buying a caliper because it is something else causing the issue then I'd like that option

Cheers

If not genuine coil packs used, I would go for NGK aftermarket as they make the genuine ones for the TFSI I believe, but then BOSCH are the genuine on my wife's 1.6 FSI MK5 Golf.

I would also go NGK on the sparkplugs

I just used motor factor coil packs bought locally (cheap) and OE NGK plugs on my Edition 30 - I'd replace all four coil packs as if one has failed the rest will follow ... save any good ones you have left may get you out of a muddle sometime.

Mk5 General Area / Spark plug & Coil pack recommendations please

My 2007 mk5 Gti is Sputtering and misfiring at under load (normally 4th 5th 6th gear) have codes p300 and p0304 which would indicate Multiple misfires and Cylinder 4 misfire. So I'm guessing that means i need a coil pack for Cylinder 4. I'm toying with the idea of changing all 4 coil packs and spark plugs while I'm at it. Has anyone got any recommendations for the best coil pack and sparkplug combo???

How to Guides / Troubleshooting / Re: Sun roof not closing properly - help!
« Last post by jonfostersmith on November 25, 2024, 04:06:46 pm »
Just to add my experience, might save someone some time... Mine malfunctioned when I pulled out the key whilst it was closing I think.
i have a 2006 Mk5 TSI (am I allowed here!!? ;0)
Nothing above worked for me.
The torx adjuster was under a little grille in front of the sunglasses holder. Not under the sunglasses holder.
It's very stiff, so mess around and get it nearly closed, using switch and key. Make sure the car is properly off and the switch is in the closed position. Adjust the torx until it's perfectly closed. I went for 1mm of glass above paintwork of roof. Then switch on the ignition. Voila!

Basically, you are manually adjusting the sun roof to match the switch position. Bon courage!
