CD player interference
« on: September 24, 2015, 09:54:32 am »
I've just used the 6 disc changer since having my car and when driving I get interference through the speakers.

Like the noise you would normally get when fitting an aftermarket amplifier.

Any ideas?

thanks in advance

Just trying to find out the model number but the 100s of pictures I've looked at seem slightly different.

It's not a touch screen or NAV but does have 6disc changer in the armrest.

I'll keep looking.

I've also found on one of the receipts from Awesome Gti

VAG-7N0907530C Can Gateway Interface - supplied and fitted

Do you know what this was for?

I upgraded to an RNS510 and the cd player sounds like you described. This is because a pin needs to be switched i didn't bother as i don't use the cd player.

Usually the can gateway would be changed to stop battery drain when upgrading the head unit. Maybe the headunit was switched out before the car was sold.

Ah that would perhaps make sense in the way that the pin was switched if the car had an upgraded unit and gateway fitted but now if the upgraded headunit had been removed and the pin not switched back this could be the issue?

Is the pin on the headunit or the wiring?

-- It wouldn't make sense to the the gaetway fitted with the standard stereo would it?

I had 20 mins to spare and although i don't use the cd player in the armrest, due to my OCD i like things to be working as they should.

I moved pin2 CD Ground black wire to pin 3 (pin 3 was empty)

A few pics.

You don't need a pin removal tool for this one. Unclip the blue connector from the main harness block.
Remove the blue part this locks the pins in place.
Use a small screwdriver to push the locking tab on the pin down so you can gently pull on the wire and slide it out.

And the cd's sound perfect now.  :happy2:

Mate you're a star, I shall give it a go and see what is does, it certainly doesn't do it when just using the headunit to play a CD only the CD multi-changer.

Remember you should be moving from pin 3 to pin 2. If its already in pin 2 there must be something else causing it.

Bit of an update on this - oddly when using different CDs there is no interference so perhaps just the CD rather than the headunit or cd-changer > most odd!
