This light came on this morning on my way to work. Any ideas what it might be?

Second that.
It's most likely a puncture although it could be a faulty air valve.
Best thing to do is check pressure in all 4 tyres and look for the outlier. Should be 2.4bar I think....... It'll tell you inside your fuel cap!
When you have had it repaired or refilled with air
hold
the tyre pressure button (when engine is on) beside the esp button in front of gearstick for a few seconds until you hear a bing and it resets

I visually checked the tyres. None particularly look flat

You need to check it with a tyre pressure monitor... Tyres are safety critical and this possible slow puncture could blow when you're driving full speed on the motorway!!!
Don't just try to disable it, a visual check isn't enough!
You should be able to turn it off even it is a slow puncture by just holding the button for a few seconds but don't do that until you've found the cause!

I've never had it either, but it helped me out today. Tyre was 8 PSI down (only filled them up last week). Visually the tyre looked ok, but on testing it was low on air, and then found a screw in the tread.

Basically - Abs sensors records wheel revolution - small diameter wheel goes round quicker - flags a fault, warning light comes on.
So the wheel is a fixed size the tyre is the variable thus works with any wheel to suit your vehicle.
There is an expensive version but that's not on the MKV although it is offered on the MKVI or can be retrofitted - see Golfman or Eddie-NL build threads.
