Swirl removal by hand

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a product to help remove or reduce swirl marks by hand?

Read about Meguiars scratch x but I wouldn't mind some help from those in the know!

Gtechniq P1 is the best hand polish I've used, with a firm foam applicator it does quite well. However don't expect too much because honestly getting swirls out of VAG paint by hand is basically impossible.

farclea g3 gives excellent results by hand, but you might need something a bit finer after it depending on the finish you require

although if you are looking to do the full car you'd be better off with something like 50 cal cover up filler glaze. won't get rid of the swirls but will give a better albeit temporary result.

A das6 machine polisher is a must really for swirls

As for swirl removal by hand. Don't do it! For the hard VAG paint you will need a machine polisher, preferably a rotary one, with some hefty compound and pad to go with. Otherwise you will just end up wasting your time and developing a repetitive strain injury.

Another vote for Gtechniq P1 if you insist on doing it by hand. You will take weeks to do it and end up with arms like popeye. I have a DAS6 pro machine polisher which is pretty cheap and works a treat.

Thanks all. I got myself some p1 and will give it a go on Sunday.

I'm not sure I would trust myself with a machine polisher although the one suggested does look good value.

I assume it would need a different product or products if using a machine polisher?

I'm sure you will improve and be happy with the outcome by hand. I use Meg's 105 and 205 with machine polisher on hex pads.
Post some before and after pics if you have time.

I used autoglym srp then a coat of poor boys black hole glaze , as mentioned above a machine polisher really is the best way. I don't have one so I got my car detailed professionally as like yourself I didn't really feel confident enough.

This was my result from autoglym srp and poor boys black hole. I did give it two coats of collinite 476 for protection after

Well I gave it ago and it was a complete waste of time!!

I was disappointed with p1 to be honest, it didn't seem to polish the paintwork at all. I could have been expecting too much to be fair.

The bilt hamber wax was great though! Really impressed with the shine and the beading since!

@DeadMau5 SRP and BlackHole are both paint cleaners, to a certain degree. The hard work you done with SRP would have been undone by applying BlackHole! Buy some AUTOGLYM HD Wax, it compliments SRP PERFECTLY and a pot will easily last a year to 18 months. I'm by no means an expert but made this mistake myself!
