Very slight misfire / hesitation at 2k rpm?
« on: February 11, 2016, 06:19:22 am »
Hi in need of advice please, got my mk5 gti 2006 with 72k on the clock over a week ago, noticed a slight sort of misfire / hesitation if I hold the revs just over 2k whist driving, doesn't misfire while its stand still or if I hold the revs up while standstill, because coil packs are prone I have changed plugs and coil packs to rule that out but still there?  I've got no warning lights etc either? anybody come across this before? Thanks

2000rpm is a problem area for sure.  Mine does the same at that rpm.  The engine feels very snatchy with very light throttle movements, and not helped with the schitt engine mounts VW chose to fit to these cars.  I hate it.

I think the transition from gas to no gas is too abrupt.  Could be mapped out but first things first, you need to fault code it and do some mechanical checks before looking into the mapping.

This a normal thing on the mk5 then? If so I will probably live with it? Thanks for reply

I've got the same thing in my golf mate, but my hesitation is around 1400 rpm... And I'm stuck for ideas on what it could be? (If you've changed the coil pack and the problem still exists)

Does it get any better or worse when the car is fully up to temperature?

It stays the same hot or cold, it's only a slight hesitation but I was more concerned it mabe something that's going to let me down on a long trip?

I had a similar thing happen, turned out to be a problem with an injector.

Update on this, last night on my way home from work it was getting worse, then I started getting brake noise, turns out it looks like one of my rear brakes are binding and that was causing the hesitation, has anyone freed the rear brakes up before?

Binding rear calipers are stupidly common on these cars.

I'd just get new calipers mate, from what I gather you're only buying time with a repair.
