Stereo / Ignition switch issue
« on: May 14, 2016, 09:00:31 pm »
On my 2005 GTI the stereo (the std RDC300) switches off after an hour. You can switch it back on straight away, but I was thinking it cannot be right as I have not experienced it with any of our other VAG group cars over the years. It switches on and off with the ignition switch as normal, but I have read somewhere that if you switch it on without the key in, it will switch itself off after an hour so the battery is not drained.

I have VCDS, so gave it a scan and have found the following ignition fault (which I cleared a week ago, but was there when I checked again tonight):

Address 16: Steering wheel        Labels: 1K0-953-549-MY8.lbl
   Part No SW: 1K0 953 549 F    HW: 1K0 953 549 F
   Component: Lenksäulenmodul 521 0050
   Coding: 0000042
   Shop #: WSC 01279 785 00200
   VCID: 35617D015CD898969D-8060

1 Fault Found:
00883 - Ignition Switch (D) Terminal S
012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit - Intermittent

So I'm thinking I need to replace the ignition switch and that should fix the stereo. Does this sound right?
