Rear wiper sometimes runs constantly.

Sometimes, when I start the car the rear wiper will run constantly and will not stop no matter what I do with the wiper control stalk. It doesn't matter if I've been in the boot or not, just happens on random occasions, even when there hasn't been rain for weeks. The only way to stop this is to turn the ignition off and back on again and then it stops straight away.

Anyone else seen this?

Almost the same thing happened to me yesterday. Rear wirper went nuts soon as I started the car - went to turn off but the stalk was already in the off position. Put it in the first "on " position and after another sweep it stopped. Weird!

I also sometimes look in my rear view mirror to see the wiper stopped maybe 15° from horizontal, even if i havent touched the wiper stalk, but never see it get there  :signLOL: It makes me giggle every time.

Seem to remember reading a post which suggested problems like this were down to a faulty motor, but would also appreciate a little more information!

I also have similar issues. It has a mind of its own. As above, probably a faulty motor.

i had this before as well when i had something heavy in the boot that hit the back panel. wiper would do random things by itself then one day it went away  :confused:

Mine sometimes seems to have a mind of it's own. Had a similar problem on a Cavalier I once had, turned out to be faulty relay so that's going to be my first port of call.

Have the same problem, not major tho as like you say just turn ignition off then on again and it fixes it.

Had this ages ago. New wiper motor fixed it, luckily the car was still under warranty at the time

I have this too. I think it's a fault in the wiper motor itself.
When it happens I do the following:
Activate and deactivate rear wipers.
Turn off / on ignition.

After the above, the wiper normally goes back to behaving itself.
It happens randomly from time to time.
As mentioned,the real fix is a new wiper motor me thinks.
