If refitting your engine cover then yes, you will need the sensor to sit at the right position

Yeah the engine cover will be going back on.
Anyone know why it won't tighten to 11 o'clock? Bizarre

Because its a part thats not available separately and is not designed to be swapped and changed between pumps?

I guess the threads are slightly different between old and new hpfp.
As when I put the newer sensor in the old pump it ends up at 1 o'clock
Old sensor in new pump ends up at 1 o'clock
Put them Both back in it's original pump and they end up at 11 o'clock.

??? Driving me mad....suppose I'll just use the damaged/repaired sensor

I've ordered a pressure release valve form vw as my pump didn't have one.
Hopefully pick it up and fit it all tomorrow.

wondering why you didn't fit the complete replacement pump in?

I bought a good second hand pump.
It was the newer version without banjo fixing and the pressure release valve.
The top sensor was cracked and been repaired, was told it still works but looks nasty.
No problem I'll just swap the top sensor over from my old pump along with the banjo fitting, but I can't get the top sensor to sit at 11 o'clock like it should...ends up at 1 o'clock every time, anyone know why?
Dies the sensor need to sit at that angle?

just read what I missed, older one doesn't have a pressure release valve as it's an AXX engine code pump!!!

Who's sensor was repaired?, the used one

The pump I bought has hose (no banjo) and a hole for a pressure release valve, and a cracked/repaired top sensor.

So you brought a replacement pump with a broken sensor??

99% sure if you removed the 'bamboo' fitting on your replacement pump the bango bolt would have fit it the now vacant hole.

Ok just re read through. So basically you brought a pump with a broken sensor and are trying to replace the sensor from your original one with the snapped piston.

oh heck!!! I understand now but again why would you buy a pump with damaged sensor as you can get them for £50-60 in tact  would have given you my internal FOC just postage but you'd laughed it off as you bought one

Just to jump in here, if anyone is selling a second hand pump fire me a PM :)

My sensor snapped, I repaired it, was ok for a while but didn't last... EPC light on again, limp mode. 

@OP: I wouldn't trust the snapped sensor repair mate, if it does go it's like hitting a wall from WOT to Limp Mode, better safe than sorry

I should have one available in next day or so as I am having to replace due to the piston staring to crack. Sensor is fine if you wanted to rebuild yours with the parts

All done folks, drama over.
I'm going to get an intake next and get rid of the engine cover, then I can put my other sensor on top. If id of used it now i think the engine cover would of broke it due to the fact the it sits at the wrong angle when installed in the new hpfp
