Adding a parrot MKi9000 to my MFD2 stereo
« on: November 21, 2016, 07:35:32 pm »
In order to update the entertainment system in my car I have decided to add Bluetooth hands free and music streaming by installing a parrot mki9000.
I went for the 9000 as I don't want an additional screen stuck on my dashboard anywhere.
Anyway I have ordered the parrot, the correct harness adapter and also an aux in cable (with dual female rca plugs).
I think you can do a standard installation using just the harness but then you would be using the parrots built in amp to play your music through the car speakers or you can use line-in inputs which means you will use the car stereos amp to power the music. I want to use the line-in so I can control the volume with the car stereo and not the parrot. Have I got this right or have I miss understood something?

If I have the above correct can I then use the aux in cable I have ordered as the line-in on the stereo? I will connect up a couple of male rca's to the correct wires on the parrot.

Finally can anybody tell me what colour wire on the air con controls to get a switched live from? Is this the easiest place to get one or is using the cigar lighter better (if it is switched)?

Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure I have everything before I tackle the job at he weekend.

I got the parrot kit fitted yesterday. The SOT 976 lead didn't seem right at first because there is an iso connecter on the parrot loom that doesn't connect anywhere to the 976 lead. Anyway I spoke to a pro installer who told me just to leave this plug hanging loose. I proceeded and everything else connected up fine and the parrot kit works flawlessly.
I tried using the line out wires from the parrot into the aux in on the mfd2 but I couldn't get this to work. I'm not sure why but I suspect the parrot was enabling the mute on the mfd2 and hence no sound was heard through the aux input.
Anyway I hooked it up without using the aux input and all works well.
