Do you need heat shield with induction kit?

I've got a ram air induction kit on my mk5 GTI...

As per one of my previous posts I've had the issue of the cone rubbing on what I believe is the coolant pipe... so to stop this managed to play around with the set so the cone just clears the pipe now...

Next problem the heat shield is now very tight rubbing on the 90 degree silicone pipe...

Thinking to just take the heat shield off... advice please....

Those Heatshield you get with the ram air are useless anyway. Loads of gaping holes everywhere. If you wanna keep it on then a bit of padding or sponge on that corner of the silicone pipe with a cable ties round it will protect it.

Or remove it as shouldn't make that much difference as as said it's not completely enclosed.

Better ones are fully enclosed and only allow cooler air to get to the filter.

I have a ramair on mine and everything fits perfectly, just have to adjust accordingly, the silicone hoses are easily adjustable. Even though the heatshield is "useless", personally I think it finishes of the kit nicely

Undo the other end of the hose and push it in further takes seconds

I'd say no to a heat shield being required, but a better intercooler to deal with the heat is a sensible proposition. This sheds heat in the inducted air.
Saving a few degrees on intake air to have it heated by the turbo is academic almost in a forced induction motor, different story in a naturally aspirated.
