Red interior light - help
« on: December 29, 2011, 06:44:53 pm »
Evening folks,

Recently noticed the one of the red overhead illuminating lights isnt working.

Sorry for the poor quality pics:

not a major problem but im a bit of a perfectionist so no doubt will bug me to death!!

Does anybody know if the little red LED/bulb can be replaced? I dread to think how much a new unit would cost from the dealers!!!

Thanks

Rich

I'd imagine you could change the LED Rich, but you'd probably have to get creative with the soldering iron and maybe do both to ensure a match?

For reference, the same LED overhead console for my old A3 was £46 at the dealer

hmm,  nothing is ever easy!!

For the hassle of replacing the LED's or the cost of a new unit, i guess i'll put up with it!

Thanks Beddie

Ultimate thread from the dead, but has anyone had a bash at this?

If so, is it just any old red LED that'll do the job?

Good question. I cant remember if the LED is a surface mount one of not. Best to take the unit out and have a look.

Yeah I think that's what it'll come to if nobody's had a crack at it, next step will be tracking one down!

Best bet would be finding a working unit from another VAG car and harvesting the led form there.

This is something I'll be looking into shortly, as my passenger side one is very very dim. Drivers side is okay but not great.

Comparing them to a mates Edition 30, mine seem non-existent.
