anyone running SACHS clutch at high power applications ?
« on: February 04, 2010, 10:06:50 am »
Hi ,
I am now about to upgrade my clutch.
i am thinking on SACHS sport cover + pressure plate.

it is rated at 480nm / 350lb/ft / 48kg/m

i am going to have (hopefully) around 20% more than this .

the question is , do you know if this kit is under rated and could hold around 20% more ?

i really preffer to keep the dual mass flywheel setup.

Unfortunately I dont have the part numbers to hand, it may be in a different thread though.
My ed30 (360bhp) is having a Sachs clutch fitted next saturday at rtech power along with new release bearing.
Assuming there is no major damage to the DMF, it wont be replaced.

how much power did you make with the 2871r ? did you use the organic plate ?

i forgot, what are you running now ?

without going to specifics of my install ... i estimate it will dyno at around 480hp.

ahmm ... , what , have you guys never seen a 500hp k03 ?

anyhow we will wait and see.

i will post this project up in due time , it is done in stages and gets coverage in israeli car media. so i am not really allowed to discuss it too much until it gets posted by them first.

however , every single stage is backed up with logs and dyno's so i will not be throwing just numbers.

in any case , i am still on my k04 OEM setup for now and the BT parts are due to arrive to israel in the following week , however physical install is a month or so away since we have to do some other stages in the middle.

and i AM using WMI in my car , so we're not in the same play field.

there are a lot of extra parts i need i would be glad to strip from your car :)

the problem is that there is absoloutly nothing avilable in israel for a high end tune and i have to ship everything from the USA or UK and wait , wait , wait and than pay 85% tax on top of that.

a real bummer.

Are you already running a this Sachs clutch? If so then I wouldnt worry, but if your currently standard I would say there are other clutches out there which are better..

I ran the Southbend Stage 5 on my S3 and it was brilliant!!

i don't have it yet, i am going to buy one.

i am really afraid of SB!

a guy here running apr stage III has just orderd a SB stage 3 and the flywheel is making noises like a tractor.
it is so much noise that when he stops in a red light people comment that his car is going to blow.

he's been over the install 3 times already , it looks perfect.

also , how's the pedal feel with a stage 5 ? i am using it as a daily and i have 5 miles to work everyday in extremly condensed traffic (think central london)

Thats normal with any single mass flywheel.. Its a trade off for outright performance..

Pedal feel is lighter than the Sachs clutch (which is a fair bit heavier than stock) it is fairly aggressive though on uptake..

i have no experience with uprated clutches.

and since i have to commute to work every morning , it really scares me which one to get.

my travel to work is 5 miles - takes normally between 40 minutes to an hour.

so you have to think how much clutch is used.
