Why did you replace the starter motor? I'm assuming you thought it was not working but how did you diagnose it?

Can't see how a failed starter motor would make your car breakdown.

Once the engine had started making noise I turned the ignition off straight away.. after that it wouldnt tick over at all.. vw mechanic said start with the cheapest option by changing starter motor.. so car is starting but the noise it whats issue now

Startor motor might be unrated. I'd be taking the chain cover off and check the tentioner. If that goes you'll have the same problem I just had with the chain snapping(big headache). Also high pressure fuel pump has a cam follower which is like a bucket and they can where through.

I'm no mechanic but I would check them.

Cam chain, adjusters, pulleys were all changed last year. So was cam follower.. i think its the hydraulic lifters causing this problem
