Rear end feels loose/skippy suspension?
« on: November 08, 2020, 07:40:48 pm »
Hi all, my rear end has started to feel abit loose/skippy on rough type roads and all slowish speeds (up to 35mph ish), it’s as if I’m getting some sort of side to side movement.

Has anyone else had anything similar? Thought I’d ask before having a look at it as suspension isn’t really something I no a lot about.

Cheers

Probably worn out bushes - mine was doing rear wheel steering changing lanes on motorway and mid corner.
Everything was in such a state I ended up rebuilding my rear axle with new bushes.

The issue is there is 14 bushes in the rear axle - it's a lot to look at and determine what has gone bad.
The bolts like to seize in the bushes within the arm.
Lastly, any replacement bushes means you will also need rear axle aligned too.

No one likes a loose rear end, especially after a hot curry.

All 4 tyres at the same pressure as per the sticker on petrol flap?

Sounds like worn dampers to me.  If it's on OEM suspension, the gas tends to leak out of the dampers way before they start to leak oil. Can be front or rear, or both.

Anyway, worn parts at either end can feel like it's the opposite end that's gone bad, if that makes sense.  A good example of that is warped rear brake discs causing a vibration at high speeds, which a lot of people chase their tale with front wheel balancing/front disc replacements.
