ECU
« on: May 29, 2018, 08:33:29 pm »
Right, I have another big problem with my mk5 golf gti. It will start but then cut's out after a second or two. Basically I went to a shop a couple week ago and when I went back to the car it would not run. It starts but cuts out straight away. I called Rac who could not diagnose the problem so towed to garage. The garage said they could not get any fault codes so got an auto electrician to look at it. He said it was a wiring fault and needed a replacement canbus module and would be £500 to fix.

I got the car towed home and had another guy look at it and plug in his laptop. He is saying it looks like ecu fault.

If it is an ecu fault is it just a matter of swapping the ecu for a replacement 2nd one as in disconnect battery and unplug ecu and plug in replacement ecu. Or there more to it?
He said he will email me the fault codes.

Fault code scan alone is useless

And no, the ECU is coded to the immobiliser, it is not a plug and play job

I think I'm just going to sell it. It's doing my head in and I've had enough of it.

I had a look at that but to be honest I can't be bothered with it anymore. Before this problem I was debating about selling it and getting a diesel anyway. I mean I've liked it when it worked but I'm getting tired of working on it as I've got other stuff to do.
